In September, teams largely play within their divisions; it makes sense as it keeps the teams closer to home and allows them to duke it out for the division crown.

This year, the Dodgers play both the Nats and the Reds -- both first in the other divisions with comfortable leads. The Dodgers' only reasonable hope for the playoffs now is the 2nd wildcard, presently held by the Cards -- whom the Dodgers also play. St Louis is regarded by some as the dark horse that no one would really like to play, particularly if Carpenter gets healthy.

If you're Dusty or Davy would you rather have the Dodgers or the Cards in the playoff mix, and would you do anything differently when you play the Dodgers?

no chance in hell they would lose to put the dodgers in. they dont want to lose their own momentum or give it to the dodgers

I'm from the breed you never want to lose, and that if you are a playoff caliber team, you should believe you can beat any team on any day.

Dodgers are the last time you want to get hot. If that offense ever starts hitting the ball you'll need to score 5-6 runs off of them to have a chance.

Talent isnt question for Dodgers. Its can they forge a winning team in less than a month? Jeffy is right no team is gonna roll over for anyone.. Worst thing any manager will do is try and get starters rest and line up his rotation.. There is no ON or OFF switch to competing and winning..

Dont worry Dodgers will take 3 of 4 from STL coming up... They are in the process of falling off the cliff.. To many injuries and not enough finish strong..

Do the Dodgers have enough pitching? is the bigger question

No no no. You don't want to get into a losing habit.

And the opposing offense can certainly do it off that starting pitching, not named Kershaw.

the dodgers are far from done yet. If they make up a couple games, and then sweep us at the end of the season, theyre in, and they can and have swept us.

No?

Letting the Dodgers play is letting Kershaw pitch against you twice. What team wants that?

Remember the Nats and Reds are separated be a couple games for overall first seed. Would you risk blowing that for positioning?

No?

Only once because he would have to pitch in the one game playoff.

The Nats clinched HFA by beating the Dodgers on the 19th; Cards ended their season.

Reds won 2 out of 3; beaten by the Giants in the 1st round.

The Giants eliminated the Dodgers also going 2 and 1; they're going home early too.

I'm just sayin': "You don't want the Cardinals in the playoffs"

100% agree. As a playoff team yourself, you shouldn't fear anyone.
