View Full Version : 5th Annual PSD Player Rankings #2 Player In The NBA? (Volume: V)

Mile High Champ
09-05-2012, 12:25 PM
Hey guys, Some of you may remember that for the last four years I have conducted a poll at the end of the season that had PSD users vote for the top 10 players at each position. The season is now over and the Heat have been crowned NBA champs which means its time to kick off the off-season player rankings.

A lot has changed since last season. Lebron was labelled by some as Choke Artist in the clutch and now this year had one of the greatest finals performances in recent memory. Let start the discussion since lots has changed since the start of last season. Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER. I will leave the poll open for two days and than we can carry on to the next best player in the league. I will add more players after each round. I have also included the results of those last 4 years so everyone can see how much things have changed...Enjoy.

REMEMBER this is based on who is the best player, not the player who has the potential to be the best

Rules of adding players to the Voting Process

In terms of adding players to the poll, it will be done like this.

As soon as Chris Paul goes off the board, I will add other PG's.
As soon as Kobe Bryant goes off the board, I will add other SG's
As soon as Kevin Love goes off the board, I will add other PF's.

And so on and so on..

This is to ensure that players that won their respective positions get a higher place in the list.

We skipped number 1. I don't want to waste time with Lebron. No one in there right mind could argue against him at number 1 based on last season.

Also this poll will be up for 2 days instead of 1.

For me, its because Durant took the next step as a superstar, not only accomplishing a great statistical season, but became a leader on his team, one that went to the finals and won the west. Dwight's ridiculous side show does put a damper on his case here, great players should lead by example and deal with his drama when the season is over. It won't knock him any further, but if two players are similar ranking in my opinion, and one leads his team to the west championship, the other part of a Snookie type season in Orlando, the pick is easy.

he earned it man. not only has his offensive game become more refined, not only did he come within three games of a Finals MVP/Championship, he actually showed signs of staggering defense for the first time in his career. people forget that he closed out the Lakers with his defense in last post-seasons second round.

KD is not a more complete player than Kobe, I mean he's not much more than a scorer and even at that Kobe is more a more versatile scorer.

Kobe averaged more assists and plays waay better defense. Durant only has Kobe on efficiency.

that's going to be the debate in the next two threads, imo.

why did chris paul play so poorly (by his standards) in the playoffs? how injured was he? how do we put that into perspective in order to give him an appropriate ranking, ect.

i say that because I put a healthy-as-we-know-him Chris Paul #3, based off last season. but if his playoff performance was less of an aberration, and more a sign of things to come, he clearly doesn't merit #3. unfortunately, we won't get any answer 'till we see how he looks next season. the next few spots will be strictly a popularity contest. context and questions with injuries derail any more concrete discussion that could have been had.

Ha! I was actually thinking I'm going to try and keep my sanity by staying out of it this year. It's the only way.

I was thinking, though, that there should maybe be a stickied, closed, one-post thread explaining the system and why it's used, and then that's it. Posting it in the OP of each thread should be enough to keep the crying out of these threads, but it clearly isn't. Just chuck it in another thread where everyone sees it, then everyone can understand and shut up about it. Hell, I'd even write it if necessary. Anything to keep from reading 'wait, why is x an option but not y? such homer ********!' 50 times in each thread.

Me and a lot of other PSD'ers demand you add DeMarcus Cousins to future polls.

Normally, i wouldnt care, but these are the same 'homers' that probably voted for him as the best player.

and the first page it says 'Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER.'

So.. there is a difference between having an opinon, and being a homer.

yes durant is blowing kobe out the water, but when it comes down to a tight race, those 'few' votes matter.

im not makin a big deal out of it, im just calling it like it is.
no trolling.

You're the only one that seems to be delusional, and also, lol at D12 above Kobe.

unless you give a reason for me 'being the only one that seems to be delusional' id shut up.

im guessing u were one of the 13 homers, that would explain your butthurtness.

Fair point. As for the regular season though.. Its definitely his best since 09. And its still Chris Paul. I don't get the blow-out here, but next round should 100% be Chris Paul.

he gave 60 great games during the regular season. i agree it was his best regular season since 2009, although it was a shortened season.

His PER dropped seven full points in the post-season, his TS% dropped by six percent, his WS/48 was nearly cut in third, while his team got swept out of the second round.

we all know paul is fantastic. but the only way chris paul is the unanimous selection next round is if you ignore his playoff production. a lot won't do that, I know i wont. the real question is, how injured was he? were the playoffs an anomaly, will he bounce back and have a great 2013? we can't answer those question until the season starts- so our vote will be speculation; the next three spots are wide open.

He was injured.

Besides, he got his injury ravaged/inferior team out of the 1st round. That alone constitutes a better playoff run than Dwight last year because he couldnt even play.

right. yet he looked pretty damn good with Team USA soon after. i still don't understand the nature of his injury, and exactly how bad it was. do you? it hasn't been well publicized. gauging and measuring the Paul injury is the most difficult part of this years top ten rankings, for me.

I buy that.

I'm actually strongly considering Paul for the 3rd spot.......If you really think about it, are there really any holes in his game offensively. On top of that, he isn't close to a turnstyle on defense.

Injuries are part of the game, and hold no water in making excuses. You know that.

Paul should go next imo.

He got swept while playing along a top 25 player and a stacked bench. CP3 was horrible during th playoffs.

They mentioned it on telecast and in the press, Pop even said he knew CP3 wasnt at full speed. CP3 doesnt let you know whats wrong but I remember bringing up the assortment of injuries and how it limited his game in the playoff threads.

I buy that.

Im just saying if a player was injured, would you just expect him to be injured again next year, what relevance does an injured performance(while still willing your depleted team) have when discussing a players current ability? I currently think CP3 can be the 2nd best player in the league but Dwight and Durant are safer bets.

Paul should go next imo.
Why?
