Some will say it is long overdue. Others believe it was done at the point of a bayonet. Either way, one of the greatest Lakers of all-time is getting a monument.

Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Times reports that the team will unveil a statue of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar outside of the Staples Center during the 2012-13 season.

Abdul-Jabbar will join Magic Johnson, Chick Hearn, Jerry West, Wayne Gretzky and Oscar De La Hoya as those honored with statues.

The NBA's all-time leading scorer said last year that the team had shown him disrespect by not honoring him.

Tell your old man that the man deserves something for dragging "Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes." Roger, roger.

The man.

Kobe will be next.

I would like to see Shaq get one as well. Obviously he deserves it. Both Kobe and Shaq built Staples Center, Kobe and Pau kept the lights on, and now Dwight will keep it going.

Much deserved. Kareem is perhaps the GOAT. He deserves this as much as any player to put on a Lakers uni... wait... Oscar has one? WTF?!?!?!? Did he have all his fights at teh Staples center or something? I know he's from east-LA, but... I mean... GNRs are from LA and they ain't got not statues up at the Staples center?

Very well deserved, to be the caliber of player he was for 3 different decades is nothing short of outstanding.

They already have 5 types of Shaqtus growing in L.A. They dont need a Shaq statue

I don't care what anybody says KAJ was arguably the Goat. Nobody has the bb career resume like Kareem's and this is by far long overdue.
