View Full Version : Do the Dodgers stop here?

I don't think they do. This ownership group has buckets and buckets of money. Magic Johnson is a minority owner and he's worth 500 MILLION.

They'll probably have $160 or $170 million in payroll after this, but I could see them pushing over the $200 million market like the Yankees and acquiring a Greinke or someone else.

What do you think?

We'll keep making moves. I think in no one they stop here.

I hope they continue to take on others teams terrible contracts.

While they're at it they can have Soriano.

They have wads of cash now. I just hope they spend it wisely. Just cause you have a new credit card doesn't mean you have to go shopping up to the credit limit.

too bad Dodgers turned down both Dempster and Soriano for anything more than a C prospect.

No room for Grienke.

I don't see us making any major moves until after 2013. In fact the only big time signing I see happening within the next 1.5 years is giving Kershaw a 6 figure deal.

They thought they had leverage they didn't have. They thought Dempster was going to be handed over and he wasn't. I am thrilled they didn't get either player actually for the garbage they offered.

I would expect them to go after 1 or 2 starters; Greinke, Loshe, Kuroda (again), Dempster (he would do well in the big NLW ballparks) and Maholm would all be better than Harang and (the ump is squeezing the plate) Blanton

if i was Dodgers i trade Josh Beckett (cause he look to be in his done years. he can turn it around. do you see him working that hard?). go after Grienke or Anibal Sanchez an try to trade four James Shields.

They are not done. They will likely make a run at Grienke in the off season, possibly a trade for a solid 3B (D. Wright) as Hanley wants to play SS. We have 2B covered for years to come if we move Dee Gordon over.

If they get Grienke the rotation of
Kershaw
Grienke
Bills
Beckett
Lilly, Cap, Harang, Fife, Blanton, etc..

looks pretty good. I would even say the best in the NL, possibly MLB.

And watch them swoop all the top draft picks they can get their hands on now.

That C prospect was Webster though and he helped get Gonzalez. I'd rather have Gonzalez than Soriano and Dempster.

And I think they go hard after Grienke. After the Kings winning the Stanley Cup, the Lakers getting Howard, and however many years of The Parkinglot Attendant, the new ownership needs to remind everyone that LA belongs to the Dodgers.

Yes.

Some 40+ million is leaving after 2013 I believe just in time to give Kershaw a large deal.

LOL Lets be real, NOT THE BEST IN DIVISION.

They get another arm and they are legit contenders though. No they are not now, unless Lilly comes back legit. Beckett is garbage, don't kid yourself.

THINKBLUE15
08-25-2012, 06:33 PM
Think they will be able to extend Kershaw?

Of course. I don't think people yet understand the economics of the Dodgers because once 'Big Markets' formed, the Dodgers were in the wrong hands. Bottom line is L.A is a bigger market than every other market sans New York. The league, in the big market era, has never had to deal with Los Angeles.

The Dodgers aren't screwing themselves. If they lose, they lose. They are trying to win a championship at the same time they try to rebuild the organization to the ground up. Whether they win or not, they can afford to try to have their cake and eat it to.

Everyone's thinking they will be able to dump bad contracts on the Dodgers, but they aren't going to take bad contracts for nothing. They took bad contracts because that is what they had to do to get Gonzalez.

Dodgers have deep pockets now they will go after pitchers this offseason and Kershaw will get paid and stay in LA when the time comes.

Well Dodgers are looking for a 3B, Ryan Howard can probably play 3rd..

So,

Roy Halladay
Cliff Lee
Ryan Howard

for

Zach Lee
$10,000,000

The Dodgers will have to stop soon unless they don't care for the luxury tax. From my understanding, any team over 180 mil payroll, is taxed 22.5% first year offense, 30% second year offense, 40% third year offense.

Dodgers still have to lock up Kershaw. I can definitely see them signing Greinke too.
