How could there be any market in Virginia Beach?

They are further out west than the Mempis Grizz, it would only seem right they are closer to Western conference teams than any other team.

08-23-2012, 01:44 PM
its kinda an odd place maloofs must be getting a heck of a deal for there stadium, good part is thers a lot of soliders in that area so it would be nice to pay tribute to them every so often

virginia beach is a tourist destination so the surrounding neighborhoods would have to really support the team while the tourist can help out going to the occasional game/buying merch

the thing i like is there isnt a mlb/nfl/nhl franchise there so the main focus is basketball and that arena could get loud like OKC cause there the only main pro franchise around

this could also be a disaster with hardly any fans

but as someone already said if you win they will fill the arena

Some years ago Bruce Smith tried to get an NFL team in the area and call them "The Rhino's."

Also when the Montreal Expos were looking to relocate, Norfolk was also one of the destinations being talked about.

Personally, I don't believe this area can support a team.

CBSSacramento:

However, Kings part-owner Joe Maloof rejected the claim. "We haven't talked to Virginia beach," he said.

The statement was echoed by team spokesman Eric Rose: "George said it best, we have been approached by several cities over several years about moving the Kings and we will not comment other than that."

Just left Va Beach for over a week it is far from a dump. 10 years ago yes, but not anymore. Great bars, tons of ocean front hotels, etc. Depends on where they put it. Surrounding cities like Norfolk and Hampton yes complete dumps Va Beach however I disagree. how recent have you been there??

St. Louis, Seattle, Kansas City and Pittsburgh should be considered first, especially before Virginia Beach. The market isn't big enough...

YanksNats1987
08-23-2012, 04:36 PM
Went to school in this area and it'll never happen. Virginia Beach has trouble agreeing with the other local cities on things (Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton) and an arena getting passed would not fly unless a team announced their intent to move there before hand.

The Kings could find a much better place than Virginia Beach at this point. It's just a way for the city to get people's hopes up so they would support an arena. Plus the area where the arena would be is already bad enough with traffic. This would create an even bigger nightmare. Consider this a rumor out of Virginia Beach and nothing else.

Technically, Milwaukee and Chicago are boarderline Western Conference and Memphis is supposed to be in the East actually.

To be honest, the Kings are the logical choice to leave California, which does not need four teams anymore.
That said, I think Vancouver, B.C., would be a better location for the Kings. Everybody who understands the situation in Vancouver knows it was the management that caused the Grizzlies to fail. The city is loaded with money; it's metro population is 28 percent higher than Virginia Beach's; it's the Hollywood of the North, making it a popular destination for free agents; and it has the greatest connection to the Asian market, the NBA's wet dream, of any city in North America.
The most important factor financially: Vancouver has a large, new hockey stadium perfect for an NBA team.

Baseball
Football
Basketball

Baseball got passed up by football as the U.S.'s official sport within a decade of the inception of the NFL. Baseball's just boring as hell. Basketball, meanwhile, is more globally popular than any sport except soccer, so who cares about the American market in that regard?

Yeah, but look at the Sacramento fan support when the kings are good. When the Kings were the most popular team in the NBA from 1999-2003, the kings fans were considered the best fans in the NBA. Their arena was known as the "Madhouse of the NBA" and the fans were known as "the loudest fans on Earth." So why leave the best fan support city?

BK-TY you are an idiot sir...Virginia has at least 10 Fortune 500 companies willing/wanting to endorse the team...say what you want but I watched the council meeting today and there were a lot of great points brought up...we were heavily compared to the OKC Thunder...I'm born and raised in the Beach and although i'm very skeptical about us getting the Kings, Comcast and Live Nation seem very intent in bringing a professional team...I personally think any pro team would be successful here but an NBA franchise would definitely give this place something to cheer for!
