I wonder if he's trying to get ready to pitch for someone in the postseason? Would be crazy...

Jason Lane also pitches for the Skeeters. I would think Clemens could be at least as good as Lane at this point.

Maybe he just loves the game? I played in an adult baseball league and played a team whose first basemen was in Vietnam. He probably was in his early to mid 60's. He wasn't quick but could still catch and even went up to bat. When you truly love something you try and do it as long as you can.

push back his hall of fame ballot until more guys have been put in with steroids.

And because now his name is clear?

I dunno, I don't think there is really any chance.

It would be cool though

Are we sure the Skeeters aren't a slow pitch softball team?

Could it just be that he likes playing baseball?

Maybe to show that he can still dominate, at an advanced age, without the roids. If he does well, it'll kind of give credence to his claim that he was clean etc.

If he comes back and pitches well he could make the case there's no way to keep him out of the HOF. Would be crazy if he pitched another half season for someone or even a postseason for the Yankees.

I feel like he'd still be able to close and wrack up 30 saves.

the astros will sign him in september

he is desperate to get off next years ballot because his homosexual mind cannot handle the embrassment when he gets 5 votes and is removed from the ballot for good

somewhere in florida right now mike piazza is balls deep in his wife laughing at clemens pathetic life

if his splitter is still decent he could probably help a team in all honesty as much as i hate clemens

he is def better then some current pitchers regardless of age imo especially if he can hit 87 now and thats with him being gone for 5 years

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Astros watched Roger Clemens throw Monday before he signed a contract with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League.

They say he threw 87

whitesoxfan83

The Astros should give him a shot if he pitches well in the Indy leagues. They are the worst team in baseball and it would be a huge attendance boost when he pitches.

Which means he would get destroyed in majors, Jamie Moyer would know. Clemens is such a douche. From the Piazza incident, bailing on Toronto, throwing at his own son, the steroids...the man is a straight up douchebag.

why anyone would sign him is beyond me. this is beyond pathetic.

for minor/idy league team? its great, gives them what they want=publicity.but your right that no major league club would touch him to be a player(but think he could be welcomed by the astros to be pitching coach or something, ala cards and mac)

Yeah, Clemens (Pre Steroid allegations) was a top pitcher, that said I hope that at age 50 he isn't planning a MLB comeback.

Fly
08-20-2012, 09:21 PM
Publicity stunt. I don't see him coming back to the MLB, but Jamie Moyer did it at almost this age and Clemens obviously has more natural talent than Moyer.

Well for an Indy league team it could be a huge attendance boost, which of course, means money.

And if he wants to try an MLB comback who are you to call him pathetic? Jamie Moyer was pitching decently effective at his age earlier this year. And Clemens has been out for a few years now, arm is rested.

Plus it's not like speed means everything. I've seen games where Branson Arroyo taps out at 86 and games where Kyle Lohse taps out at 88 and both are having extremely strong years.

If his splitters working well for him I wouldn't be surprised to see a team give him a shot.

I wouldn't be surprised if he completely fails but calling a guy pathetic because he wants to play baseball even at 50 seems far from apropriate

It sounds like Roger is just pitching this one game for fun (although he hit 87 on the radar gun without really trying). He doesn't intend on making a comeback to Major League Baseball, or even trying to.

NOBODY will sign him to a MLB contract. I don't care if he averages over 90 MPH on his fastball.

He is silently banned from playing.... much like Sosa, Barry....etc.
