I'm sure many of you have seen ESPN have started releasing their second annual ranking of 500 NBA players and potential NBA players for this year.

In short, 104 'experts' (listed here (http://espn.go.com/nba/notebook/_/id/8270141/2012-nba-player-rankings-contributors)) rate every player from 1-10, and the average is that player's score. Players are then ranked by score. Simple.

So far the 401-500 have been released, and the rest will be counted down over the next few weeks.
The list so far is here: Link (http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8246986/2012-nba-player-rankings-401-500)

So, any thoughts on the rankings so far?

Most notable for me is that no Lavoy Allen (last year's #500) means he's in the top 400 and thus the first guy to jump at least 100 places. This year Eddy Curry - who has played 24 games over the last four seasons - is #500, which seems fair enough.

After a quick look, other notable players who have leapt out of the bottom 100 this year include Jeremy Lin (467 last year), Isaiah Thomas (464), Chandler Parsons (460), and Iman Shumpert (440). I have to think Lin is probably the early favourite for biggest riser.
Mike Bibby is the biggest drop so far, falling from #307 to #472. It's almost hard to see anyone else falling that far.

So far, scores are looking a little higher for each position than they did last year - no idea what to make of that, though.

So, any thoughts or reactions or predictions?

Wade better not be in the top 8.

2011-12 Regular Season when compared to every shooting guard in the nba
Dwyane Wade ranks
2 in ppg while shooting 49.7 percent from the field(Most efficient 2guard in nba)
4 in reb
2 in ast
4 in steals
1 in blocks
3 in double doubles

Now please find 8 players in the nba that rank in the top four in every major stat at there position in the NBA then you can make the argument he's not top 8... And he did all this while being the second option to the best player in the league, in an injury plagued season he still put up all nba numbers.. Really not top eight??? That's a bit silly just my opinion thought

Kobe's sort of the wild-card anywhere from 6-10 next season, but I'd have him at 9 best if I'm betting. Left him there but off the board intentionally. Would not be surprised one bit at all to see Griffin surpass Kobe next year. It would be strange if he didn't to be honest. And BG already has a significantly higher PER, WinShares, TS%, etc. Kobe's twilighting my man - it's a new era.

homer much?

Not at all.

Dwyane Wade is easily a top 5 player in the league.

Lebron - Durant - Howard/CP3/Wade in some order. You can make an argument for each of those three players being 3rd best in the league.

After that 6 and on is where it is up to some mixing and matching.

Kobe is still a top 10 player in the league right now. Quite likely closer to 10 than 5, and I think players like Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, Dirk Nowitzki, and Deron Williams round out the top 10.

Edit: This is from a Lakers' fan perspective as well.

Wade is a flopper. It is great for him because it makes playing defense against Wade relatively useless since you will most likely be called for a foul. I would still put Wade in the top 10 since all the free throws he shoots/game puts his scoring average up there with Kobe and Dirk.

I noticed the flopping more last season from him, but it is worth noting that Wade took less FT/game last season than any season except his rookie year.

Most notable for me is that no Lavoy Allen (last year's #500) means he's in the top 400 and thus the first guy to jump at least 100 places.

With #301 been and gone, Lavoy has jumped at least 200 places. I don't usually care about rankings that much, but that's pretty cool. I have no concept of where he should be.

Ok and? Wade is the more efficent scorer, the better rebounder, facilator and defender.

Its Easy to be more efficient when you have Lebron James Facilitating the game. Kobe can gaurd D-Wade so would place him higher in ranking. Also Kobe is a better Low post scorer. And Kobe doesn't flop. Lets also remember how D-Wade was doing in the Heat before LeBron came to town.

I rank it.

1.LeBron
2.Durant
3.Howard
4.CP3
5.Melo
6.Rondo or Rose would be here but hes injured.
7.Kobe
8.Love
9.D-Wade
10.WestBrook???

And for people Hating on Rondo. Are you ********? He has the most triple doubles for any active player in the league. Kobe might be outrank him though. But he should be top 10 or 12.

i want to see how stupid espn really is if the put blake griffen in the top 10 again. Put dwill 9 after back to back 20 win seasons. Have gason who is now 4th best player on his own team ahead of Melo. I think they will have Melo like 9 this year because of strong finish and olympics fresh in their clueless minds.

yeah man, I agree, I don't think we will see Blake in the top 10, and Deron shouldn't be any higher than 13-15. Carmelo will probably hover right around 10, so 9 wouldn't be a huge stretch, especially if they drop Rose due to injury.
