Hardaway, whose niece is apparently dating Rose, told the Chicago Sun-Times' Neil Hayes that Rose's jump shot might be a whole lot better when he returns to complete and full health. Mainly because Rose has no other choice but to work on his form, while he's stuck in rehab.

Here's Tim, from the Sun-Times:
''He can only do three things,'' said former NBA point guard Tim Hardaway, who missed the 1993-94 season after suffering a similar injury. ''He can dribble not run and dribble, just dribble walking up and down the court; he can shoot a bunch of free throws; and he can shoot a bunch of set shots like he's playing H-O-R-S-E every day, all day.
''But that's going to make him better. If you shoot 1,000 jump shots a day, 1,000 free throws a day, you're going to get better. That made my shot better. It really made my jump shot and free-throw percentage better.''

Hopefully he'll improve his jump shot instead of running through people like a running back

I'll take Rose shooting jumpers anyday. He was a good player because he drives, not because he shoots.

hope tim is true.
I know of another acl injured player that could use a better jumpshot.....or a jumpshot at all :p

He does have a point. If Rose had any offensive weakness it is outside shooting

Unless your simulating game speed while shooting those jumpers your not necessarily getting any better.

He's already running lightly according to reports

It's all true, especially his spot up shots. A lot of players dont realize free throws are the first things you should be working on if you're trying to perfect your form. Look at guys who hit +90% fts. Nash,Allen,Calderon.

Rose actually used to be a real good mid range shooter. That percentage has regressed the last couple years while his shot from the arc has improved for whatever reason.

So basically he's already shown that he can be a very good shooter.

I don't doubt he will come back a better player, and a better j. I mean, what else is there to do but work on your form/shot? Hopefully, this time around he doesn't rush himself through the rehab.

Its going to be nice seeing him back on the court in March or whenever the Bulls decide he should return.

I see where you are coming from, but I trust TH, because he was in a very similar level and situation with Rose. I honestly cannot think of a better precident. Similar ages and skills.

I agree. I think he'll smarter and craftier instead of just relying on his athleticism. Not sure if he'll be definitively BETTER but I do expect an improved jump shot and mechanics. I mean, he may not have any other choice.

Can't rely on that athleticism forever

Good for him trying to improve his game while he's on the shelf. If he can find a more consistent jumper while hopefully retaining his explosiveness, he's going to be a special player.

Hes already in the gym taking shots up.

This is the point where MJ became unstoppable too, when he developed the jumpshot, hopefully Rose can do the same.

Do u play basketball ??? Cleaning up imperfections in ur form definitely translates in game speed.. A quicker cleaner release helps at any pace..

I agree. His logic makes sense. Is rose doing this is the Question? But regardless it is going to take a little while to get the rust off but I expect Rose at 100percent come playoff time and I feel bad for their first round matchup.

MJ was taller and can get his shot off over the likes of ...well, Lebron james.

I'm still waiting for Lebron to develop a more consistent jump shot.

i disagree, just shooting jumpers to improve your jumper will make you so much better especially if thats all you do.

Are you even old enough to have watched Timmy with the GSW and the Heat? He had one of the nastiest crossovers in the league.

I trust Tim Hardaway's judgement on this one. He's got experience to back it up. While he was recovering from the injury he picked up that year, his shot got better and I think Rose will benefit from the extra training.

I think if there's any place to improve for Rose, it's his set jumper. Though, I'm not sure how much use he'll get out of it until the Bulls can get someone else on the team who can create their own shot. Until that happens, I think the same Rose will come back to the team (slasher).

No way does he get better. He was the best driver in the game. Getting to the paint with ease is much more of a reliable game then a jump shot. The best players in this game get most of their points from inside and have the supreme ability to get inside.

I have seen him play. I know how good he was, and it's a cool story, bro. It doesn't have anything to do with me caring about what TH says about the guy who is dating his niece. This thread belongs in the Bulls forum.

Rose is fearless and he'll still drive to the hole. The coaches will tell him to tone it down a bit due to injury concerns. If so, adding a consistent jumper will only help alleviate any loses by driving less. He'll drive less for the first year or so, but in a couple years after injury he'll be the same old Rose, maybe this time with a jumper.

 So because he drives he can't work on his jumper? The better the shooter the closer you have to play him and when you play him that close he will go right around you.

That's what separates Tony Parker even more from Cp3 and Deron n Nash.. That lack of a jumper would open up way more things for him ... IMO

Makes sense to me. That seems to be Rose's biggest weakness at this point, and rehab will force him to work on those weaknesses. Kid is still very young, so its impossible to write him off even with an ACL injury, but I am curious to see how it affects his style of play. Will he shy away from contact more? Will he defer to his outside shooters more on drives?

This injury may end up helping his health in the long-term if he learns to step off the throttle a little bit. He will still draw contact but this might help him learn to pick and choose his spots thus lowering the chance of injury.
