That would be awesome for the spectator, and fun for the players too. I like it. Nations could have multiple teams. So many possibilities.

Rubio/Gasol/Gasol...

I was thinking of Spain too...but it would be 4 years from now, and I think a little past Pau's time.

Rubio/Fernandez/Marc

Yes, but no, not Cp3, Bron and Durrant, fact is, we need somebody big, because its likely spain would bring Rubio (fine matchup for CP3) Fernandez (spreads the floor for them) and Marc Gasol (Pau is too old ) and No one on that 3 could match up with Gasol,

..I think it would be better if they had amateurs instead of professionals play(HS, College, street ballers)

USA: KD, Bron, and Melo. Since Bron can handle the ball, CP3 isn't a pressing need. Lebron can guard anyone. We showed height isn't an issue so no need for Dwight. Melo and KD are two of the best FIBA players we have sent over for a long time now. Always seem to thrive in FIBA play.

Either Melo or Dwight would be fine though

Stupid as hell. This is going to be as ridiculous as the 1000 swimming events except even less relevant. Just send the golds to USA before it even begins. Basketball is a team sport, this is a mockery of the game.

I should add that it would be entertaining. But don't make it an Olympic event.

you couldn't put together another threesome to beat James/Durant/Howard.

Those three beat any other combination the world could put together.

who choses the teams?

Lakerfrk

CP3 - Lebron - Howard

Deron - Durant - Bynum

Rose - Anthony - Bosh

Westbrook - Harden - Davis

All of those teams would kill.

Hoop it up,Olympic style.

3 on 3 is a great game.

Played that more than full growing up in Brooklyn.
Love it.

Do you guys think USA would be better on a 3 v 3 than a 5 v 5? I think the talent of any 3 players the US could put on the floor is far superior than any other country, but I think what makes the 5 v 5 team so great, is that no other country can compete with USA's depth.

Also, assuming that 5 v 5 would still be part of the competition, would the top players form a 3 v 3 team, considering they have obligations to the 5 v 5 team?

If players from the 5 v 5 were ineligible for the 3 v 3, I think USA would look something like

for this year

Kyrie Irving
Joe Johnson
LMA

or a college version/rookie...Anthony Davis not included cause he was on 5 v 5

Drummond
Beal
Lillard

^plus u got lebron there. he would serve as the main dictator and distributer on the court. imo, this three is best.

I always thought it would be nice to have a 3-on-3 tournament during the offseason. If somebody posted a big enough purse, I think a lot of NBA players would opt in. I know I'd love to see it.

I always wondered why swimming could have 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 400m relay, etc. but other sports do not have specific skill events. Why shouldn't basketball? Virtually every level of basketball has 3 on 3 tourneys, 3pt shootouts, and slam dunk contests, so why not the Olympics?

It's one of the things that always bugged me about the hype Michael Phelps gets. He can compete in like 12 events each Olympics, whereas a judoka can only get one. A basketball player gets one. The only other sport where you can get a vast quantity of medals would be gymnastics, but since they don't take anyone over 18 or so it's virtually impossible to go to multiple Olympics anymore.

If you're implying a team of Lebron, Melo and Durant would not win the Gold, then I think you're crazy. Lebron would play his excellent D, and there is no doubt in my mind Melo and Durant would play excellent D as well.

This would be a terrible idea. NBA players training in different mind-sets... the thought of it has a very indoor-soccer type vibe to it. Might be good to watch, but they should leave this part of basketball at the olympics to the amteurs with a no-pros-allowed rule.
