Paul Pierce is a lock for this to happen. Doubt they do it for Ray Allen. What are your thoughts on Kevin Garnett?

He spent most of his career in Minnesota but his best years were in Boston in my opinion (not statistically speaking).

Yes/No? - explain your answers if you'd like to either way.

I dont think he's been with the Celtics long enough and while his impact has been large, it hasnt been monumental like the way Pierce has impacted that organization.

I think if he makes 2 more ecf appearances, while playing at a high level like this past year, there is a chance

5, 20, 9 and 34 all will be retired someday. Its the Celtics' way. If you're a superstar that leads the team to a ring, your number gets retired esp. if you were a HOFer.

Retiring numbers is one of the dumbest things in sports. I say just put there name in the rafters and be done with it. What are teams going to do when they run out of numbers to use? Start using fractions or decimals?

As of right now I'd say no but by the end of his tenure and think that may chance.

I wish the Sixers didn't have so many. All my favourite jersey numbers (2, 6, 15, 24) are taken on the Sixers.

If you played for them, and if you were on a championship team and were at least the 4th option they will retire your number.

The Lakers retire your number only if you are HOFer and one of the greatest ever.

Rondo, Pierce, Allen and Garnett will all have their numbers retired. They fawking love retiring numbers in Boston. Look up at teh rafters. Even Ainge is going to get his number retired out of this run.

KG & Pierce will. Ray won't. Rondo is a little too early to tell.
I mean KG will be playing his 6th season with the Celtics in the upcoming season. He signed a 3yr extension I believe, and say if he retires after that. That will be 8 season with the Celtics, so far they've won 1 championship, a couple of ECF appearances (can see more), a lock of HOF, i think he def gets his jersey retired.

They only won 1 champion, so no, Paul will because he's been there forever.

I honestly think it's pretty much a lock, I was surprised to open the thread and find people disagreeing. I'm not expert, though, so I'm happy to believe you guys, it's just a surprise.

I'd say no. It's tough to predict the future, but I would say perhaps Minnesota will retire it. I feel like he was their franchise and will be remembered as such.

KG made PP and the rest of that team in '07-'08 a fierce defensive oriete team. Before that PP was just another lazy score first "star".

PP is coming up on > $250M in lifeime earnings, compared to all the Celtic greats before him, he's by far the worst investment.

KG just re-upped, his number is going up.

The Lakers retire your number only if you are HOFer and one of the greatest ever.

The Boston Celtics have 6 more Championships than the Los Angeles Lakers (Minny doesn't count does it? No retired numbers), Celts should have more retired numbers. Goodrich and Worthy - among the greatest ever? 152th (behind Cedric Maxwell) and 130nd (behind Dennis Johnson) all time in WS?
