View Full Version : IF there is a Heat/Lakers finals, who would you root for?

JerseyPalahniuk

I'm not the type to start these waaaaay to early playoff threads. I understand that with injuries anything could happen to a franchise (See: Derrick Rose).

BUT, if that ends up being the matchup. Who would you root for? I'm interested in seeing the responses from non-LA/Miami fans (please vote in the respective position if you are - we can see who votes for who haha)

For some of you, it may be more relevant to phrase it another way:
Who do dislike/hate less?

I don't get why athletes take a bad rap for not wanting to live in a crummy city or play for a crummy organization. The last time I checked this is the UNites States of America- a place people live in so that we can do whatever the **** we want..

This would be the worst thing that could happen to the NBA. Of course it would draw HUGE ratings to the finals, might even rival the Superbowl, but the bottom line is during the season small market teams that make up the majority of the league are going to lose lots of money because people are going to become so disinterested in basketball. The NBA won't survive long term if LA, Miami, New York, Chicago, and Boston are the only competitive teams, which is what is going to happen if this super-teams era actually works out year in and year out. The league should be made out of 30 teams, not 5 or 6.

Diehard Lakers fan; always will be. I respect LeBron & D-Wade's abilities, but on the biggest stage, I'm rooting for the purple and gold. HEAT. i like the Lakers but gotta go with Lebron and Bosh.

it'll be tough though cuz Bosh would probably have to guard Howard if they continue their small ball game. Only reason why it worked against OKC cuz OKC bigs are useless. Not sure how they can handle LA's length.

It would be scary if they still had Odom as the 6th man and not the Odom who sucked in Dallas. Just for fun:

Howard/ Hill/ Murphy
Gasol/ Odom
Artest/Jamison/ Barnes
Kobe/Meeks
Nash/ Blake.

and earl Clark and ChrisDuhon

frig all 15 - 18 players are pretty much usable somehow

I'll loathe the Lakers until my dying breath, so if I had to choose I suppose I'd root for the Heat(even though I could really care less whether or not they win). As long as the Lakers are playing, I'm going to root for whomever their opponent is. In all actuality I probably wouldn't even watch the series. Being that my team has arguably the worst ownership in the league, I have no desire to see the rich get richer.

Furthermore, I refuse to root for a team simply because there's a vet on the roster who has yet to win a championship. I'll never understand how some people think certain players are entitled to a ring, and that not having one tarnishes their legacy. If anything, having to jump-ship to a stacked team in the twilight of your career in order to win a ring shows desperation...something that is not characteristic of a true champion. Perhaps it'd feel different if there was actually some parity and competitive balance in the league...but these two teams are prime examples of how the exact opposite is true.

And yes, I do realize I'm coming off as a complete douche in this post...but hey, that's my honest opinion.

Lakers need 4 all stars, a former MVP, a former defensive player of the year just to face Miami Heat. Its shameful that the league even allows this type of foolery to happen. Miami Heat would still win though and the Thunder would still eliminate the Lakers if even one of the lakers stars are not playing well.

i didnt say that would dictate it at all. that was just my opinion of which players i feel are better to back up my claim that i THINK the lakers would win in a hard fought 7 game series. It was just an opinion that does NOT make it a fact. Im absolutely worried about OKC they are a big roadblock in our quest for the finals. You as a heat fan shouldnt be so quick to put urselves there either, Boston has made some great moves and if NY EVER figures out how to play together they are dangerous as well.

Way to early, but it is hard to tell because the Lakers are an entirely new team. I don't think it will take that long for them to get great chemistry. Kobe will the hardest time adjusting because he is used to having the ball in his hands often. Gasol and Howard will be loving Nash.

Too early, but I'll go with the Lakers right now.

So, I'm on the "anyone but the Heat/Lakers" bandwagon.

i change my mind to this!

i think Basketball will have the lowest ratings ever(NBA wise not on TV) and NFL will probably have the best ratings i'm very bored with the NBA its like 7 teams that win on a yearly basis its boring small markets should have more Cap then large markets

cant wait for football season i'll always watch the blazers but any other teams im not really gonna watch until the finals its not really my cup of tea anymore im tired of watching all the small markets rebuild with the same teams winning thats no fun and when a teams over the cap like LA,Miami they should be fined a draft pick and roster spot(if over too long max took 2) and money it's to boring they gotta change the rules for the league to stay up or eventually its gonna go under

better question whos ready for FOOTBALL?.....I AM

I don't know that this moves makes lakers a shoe in. The Nash move to me was much much bigger.

Yeah, Dwight is better then Bynum, but really, how much better that it makes lakers automatic.

It'll will be interesting. My bet was on okc gettin back to the finals but the this moves makes it a little different.

You're crazy. Bynum can't run or defend the pick and roll at all. The Mavs and Spurs were going to give us issues as long as he stayed around.

Dwight's defensive ability can not be overstated. He changes the whole game on that end! Everyone's job gets easier.

Even though his back is a little banged up, Dwight is WAY healthier than Bynum. People seem to forget because he stayed healthy for one year that we lost a championship because his damn bum knee.

Nash is a great PG, but we would have a way better chance of winning it all with Howard and Sessions, than we would with Nash and Bynum. With both of them though (the two best pick and roll players in the league) there's no excuses (other than major injuries) if we don't win it all.

Not gonna lie, still kind of want us to trade Pau though. Pau and MWP for Bargnani and Derozan would be great. Sucka *** Grant Hill has gotta be kicking himself in the *** right now.

I feel like with the amount that this potential finals has been built up ever since the Big 3 formed... it would be a disappointment to the fans of either side for this series to go any less than 6 games... especially with LA having to get through Denver, SA, and OKC and Miami having to get through Philly, Boston, Indy, and the NY teams. There really is no reason for this not to rank as one of the greatest finals of all time.

During midseason, many lakers fans were talking about how Bynum was better than Howard. This of course was after Howard spurned LA. Howard is the better player but not by leaps and bounds. Without a jumper, the pick and roll Nash would have with Howard won't be as effective and it would have been with Bynum.

I still think teams with legit centers will give them fits. This includes OKC especially.

Thats funny given that Shaq had great teams and plenty of opportunities to win before playing with Kobe and failed. Pau was never even able to win a playoff game and the only time Dwight was even able to make it to the FInals, he lost to Kobe.

The one common theme among all those players you mentioned winning is Kobe, and Phil. However, if Kobe could somehow win a title within the next few years, the ONLY constant in that equation would be Kobe. Thats saying a lot.

Shaq so far has been the only player to have won a ring without Kobe, but Kobe outdid even that by winning two without Shaq.

Hawkeye15

Thats funny given that Shaq had great teams and plenty of opportunities to win before playing with Kobe and failed.

You mean baby Shaq, whose team was beat by Hakeem and the Rox? Weird, a veteran team beat up on a young team overachieving (after they knocked Jordan and the Bulls the **** out). And what the hell does that have to do with what Shaq turned into during his peak leading the Lakers? Reaching dude..

Pau was never even able to win a playoff game and the only time Dwight was even able to make it to the FInals, he lost to Kobe.

Dwight and Kobe played 1-1 for the finals trophy? Huh.

The one common theme among all those players you mentioned winning is Kobe, and Phil.

Coincidence, nothing more. The one thing common with all of those rings was multiple superstars and the greatest coach to ever coach in the NBA.

However, if Kobe could somehow win a title within the next few years, the ONLY constant in that equation would be Kobe. Thats saying a lot.

Yeah, see above. The constant would be a dominant big man, in this case 2 of them, and now he also has a top 10 PG ever in the twighlight of his career still dishing out 10 dimes a night and never missing an open jumper.

Shaq so far has been the only player to have won a ring without Kobe, but Kobe outdid even that by winning two without Shaq.

You honestly let it sail over your head how much the Lakers front office has given Kobe for help. Nobody would deny he is an all time great, but please don't act like many of the years, he wasn't THE reason they won a title, he was one of many.

Exactly. It was weird to see some Lakers fans on this site root for the Celtics during the ECF. It makes me believe they aren't true Laker fans.

Against Miami it was a matter of choosing the least of two evils I can't speak for other Laker fans but against Miami with the Lakers out of the playoffs I wanted the Celtics to lose in the ECF. However, every time the Lakers make it to the finals the only team I want to play is Boston.

The Lakers for two reasons. Steve Nash. Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant raped a girl. Nuff said.

But seriously, no team. Why do you have to root for any team?

neither, baseball season would have started. If you aren't a fan of either of those teams interest in basketball has just decreased exponentially.

Lakers even though they have my numbers 2 3 5 and 6 most hated players... the heat have 1 and 4.

Hilarious you took the time to make that list. Well done.

Agreed. As a Raps fan I may just stick with college full time until the NBA goes with a hard cap, in the spirit of true parity.

Steve Nash. I was a lakers fan as a little kid. With Nash there this will be the first time I identify with them since magic.

and your proof of that is? im pretty sure the last two years the nba has gained alot of fans, this years finals was the highest rated 5 game series since 2004. the interest has decreased exonpoetially but still people watch hmm or are you going to say that rating was all made up of thunder and heat fans?. if the lakers and heat meet in the finals its going to break viewing records and people hate it or love are going to tune in.

Hard for me not to root for Steve Nash. Everybody else in this matchup eXcept Dwight already got rings.

I have always thought Kobes legacy was overrated. For the most part because SHAQ is not given enough credit for those 3 rings after he left LA.

If Kobe gets his sixth ring or possible seventh I see all the ignorant Kobe fans saying he is better than MIKE which is preposterous.

In any case, I think Bron should win a couple more because he is that explosive.
