View Full Version : Who is the worst player currently on a NBA roster?

Fresno

Since we're doing a poll on the best players at each position.

Who is the worst player in the NBA? (rookies not included)

Not a tough choice but in my opinion it is Daniel Orton of the OKC Thunder.

Joel Anthony. he's the worst getting big minutes anyway. he's so bad offensively it's crazy

Doesn't belong in the league anymore

Joel is a capable defender and shot blocker. He also scores on over 50% of his baskets, and barely turns the ball over. Yes, he's not a good offensive player, but I don't get this "so bad offensively it's crazy" nonsense.

First things first, we almost have to rule out Centers who barely play. We all know there are a lot of Centers in the NBA only because they are tall (Ex: Dexter Pittman, Solomon Alabi, Daniel Orton, etc...) So with that in mind.

Travis Outlaw.

The guy realistically doesn't do 1 single thing well. He's not a good scorer, shooter, defender, rebounder, passer, and he's not even that athletic.

i've seen him blow so many Wide open dunks & layups. seems like everytime i watch the Heat Wade or LeBron will draw his man over, they pass to Joel for a wide open dunk & he misses it(barely jumps high enough half the time) or a botched layup. then every so often he tries to post up he has me crackin up, it's an ugly sight & never works out. he's ok defensively, but way outsized alot of times. i just wish they had a better center

I disagree. Most people in this thread are just naming the worst player they can think of that has done something noteworthy at some point in their career.

Higgins is the worst player on the worst team in history so its not a bad place to start. I agree that Leonard shouldn't of been included, but he gets it more than anyone naming Lopez, a knick, Charlie V, Curry, etc. Those are some of the worst cap hits not players.

If we group all players who you've named we have the next list:

PG: Carlos Arroyo/Duhon
SG: Jerry Stackhouse/Toney Douglas
SF: Artest/Travis Outlaw/Rasual Butler/Luke Walton
PF: Scalabrine/Villanueva/Juwan Howard/A.Daye
C: Joel Anthony/Aaron Gray/Jason Collins/Thabeet/Hollins/S.Williams/Petro/Mbenga/Haywood/ Curry

Center:

Ok, I noticed that there are many Centers at this list, and I can think many more: Pittman, Haddadi, Magloile, Aldrich, Koufos so on.
It's amazing that Magloile became all star!! It's also that Jason Collins play many years en NBA, I can't understand it. It's not less amazing that Thabeet was 2nd draft pick and it's really sadly that Haywood ear many money. Moreover, Petro, Joel Anthony and Mbenga are defensive player who aren’t able to attack but they can be found a role in a built team.

Power forward:

Furthermore mentioned players, I would add others like Reggie Evans, Booner, Turiaf, Cartier Martin, Orton, Pendergraph, Harangod… Most of them unknown to me. Scalabrine is the most obvious as he have been mascot-player in recent years. I don’t like put in this table a guy like Juwan Howard although his performance is so low nowadays (he was great player fallen on hard times because of injures, apart from their age). Reggie Evans and Booner are specialist players who are capable of rebound and shoot respectively, but null any other skill. Villanueva is the worst quality-cost player without question, along with Tyrus Thomas.

Forward:

I don’t agree whit that Artest, Outlaw are included in this group. There are other players like Radmanovic, Balkman, Forbes, Pavlovic that their days are numbered. I agree with Rasual Butler and Luke Walton. The first one yielded only a couple of good years in NBA, and the second one has earned a lot of money thanks to Phil Jackson since is, in my opinion, the least athletic player of NBA. Artest can defend and have a decent 3 point shoot and Outlaw is decent player who is overpaid.

Shooting Guard:

Leave aside Jerry Stackhouse for the same reasons that Juwan Howard. Tony Douglas is deserves part of this group beside other player who still not show their worth in NBA: Royal Ivey, Xavier Henry, Matt Carroll and Elligton, although he still can improve (particularly Henry and Elligton).

Point Guard:

In the later group you include Arroyo and Duhon. The first one can’t defend and is a scorer in spurts. Otherwise, Duhon has worsened since he signed new contract with Orlando both in defense and offense. Jamal Tinsley is an old rocker with uncertain future in league, just like Roger Mason. Both could be included in this table, but Arroyo and Duhon gather more ballots.

My “fantastic team” would be next:

PG: Duhon/Arroyo/Roger Mason
SG: Ivey/Carroll/Elligton
F: Luke Walton/Pavlovic/Balkman
PF: Scalabrine/Harangod/Turiaf
C: Jason Collins/Hollins/Aaron Gray

Everyone posting says well known players, It's the players that you have seen for 6 years and don't know that suck the worst, So the answer is obviously that guy on the end of the bench that's getting paid for whatever reason guy. Luke Walton is an exception even though he is well known, But only because he's getting paid 6m to sit on the end of the bench.

What about Toney Douglas?

He played heavy minutes during the first half of the season. Put up a lot of shots and had a relatively high USG%.

Here are some of the stats that stand out.
FGA/36min: 15.9
ORtg: 82
TS%: .393
FG%: .324
3PT%: 231 (6.5 attempts/36min)
WS/48: -0.046
OWS: -1.4

Again, this is a guy who was getting A LOT of minutes until D'antoni stumbled upon Jeremy Lin. I always knew he was a bad player, but the heavier role he took on this season magnified his awfulness.
