...went off for 39 points and helps Team Australia beat Team England.

LONDON — Patty Mills scored a tournament-high 39 points as Australia beat Britain 106-75 on Saturday to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the men’s Olympic basketball competition.

The San Antonio Spurs guard had 15 points in the third quarter to spark Australia’s comeback. Matt Dellavedova made all three of his 3-point attempts in the period as Australia rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Britain, which led by as many as 15 points in the third, trailed 66-60 at the end of the quarter.

But the run was not over.

Australia (2-2) started the fourth with an 18-0 run, which included a pair of Mills’ 3-pointers.

Joel Freeland had 16 points for Britain, now 0-4 in its Olympic debut.

Damn. Melo's Olympic record lasted a grand total of 1 day. And Patty Mills is San Antonio's backup PG

It was a Team USA Olympic record, not an overall record. Melo never had the record for most points scored in the Olympics.

Brazilian Oscar Schmidt's Olympic-record 55 points against Spain in a game at the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul.

that is exactly what I thought haha, though it was only a U.S. record. But I still say 37 points in 14 minutes is unheard of, and will never be repeated.

ohh yeah my fault. I remember on ESPN 2nd place was Marbury with 31. Can't forget about the legendary Oscar Schmidt.
