Had Nets forward Kris Humphries not taken a liking to basketball at a young age, we might be sitting here talking about how he is the most decorated Olympian in world history. Okay, so maybe itís not that simple, but Humphries was a tremendous swimmer in his youth. According to NetsDaily.com, Humphries was the top swimmer in his age bracket when he was 10 years old. Some guy named Michael Phelps was right behind him.

Cool fun fact. He kinda looks like a swimmer.

I'm sure kimmy would have kept him if he was as decorated as phelps

I loved that story. However I feel for this thread as I fear it will turn into a Nets bashing thread, or a Nets fans appreciation thread!

Cool fact. Still dislike Kris for not choosing Duke and for appearing to be a d bag. No offense to Nets or his skills as a bballer. Just my opinion.

He's probably made more money than Phelps excluding endorsements.

with his growth as a teenager, he'd probably never have reached the heights that Phelps reached. A 6'8-6'9, 230+ lb swimmer?

Who would win in a race?

Duncan or Humphries?

Humphries is an interesting guy. I absouletely love the way he plays the game with tenacity and effort. However he came off as the biggest d bag on keeping up with kardashians and he clashed with Coach K and told him he wanted to be the star freshmen year and switched to Minnesota. There is also a rumored story that when he went to visit Kansas Roy Williams was ready to offer him but all the players begged him not to because of his ****** attitude and large ego.

This guy nailed it. Kris seems like he has a big head for a guy who has done nothing probably will do nothing. He seems snobby and pretentious and I wish he wasnt athletic so he could get his butt kicked by the real world.

how much Phelps make a year? Humphries turned out to be a good player, but in the beggining of his carreer he was a crappy player in Utah and Toronto

Great question.

That is a nice story about kris, but I think he's still to big and tall to still be better than Phelps.

Matt Grevers who won gold in the backstroke is 6'8. He grew like 10 inches in HS and just took off in the sport, going from amazing to elite. Tall and lean is what you want in swimming. 230 wouldn't be too much mass for a guy who is 6'8, but I bet Hump weighs over 230.

Humpries was so badass as a young swimmer. He still has national records for 10 and under swimmers. He quit way too early and was way too fast not to have national success. Can't say he would have reached what Phelps did because only 1 person in history has done that.

Maybe he should go back to swimming. You can't hear the Kardashian fans booing you when your head is under water.

Phelps became Phelps between his 13th and 14th years on this planet. He dropped like 6 seconds in some of his 200M races during that time period. Something tells me Humphries wouldn't have been able to do the same...

Haha, I'm pretty sure he would get destroyed by Phelps now. That was 17 years ago. Humphries was better as a 10 year old

I'm not surprised by this. Duncan to was a legit swimmer. NBA athletes are among the most gifted athletes in the world and I'm surprised that some of them don't also train for track. Marion Jones of the WNBA played pro basketball and also ran in the Olympics. The athletes of the NBA are more than capable of competing at a variety of other olympic sports if they trained to, though I'd be more inclined to see them as runners than swimmers.

Why not? Huge hands/arms and legs help a lot in swimming.
