about time, he's 0-3 but I'm just glad to see him getting some at bats. He's not likely to hit the bigs until late 2013, at earliest, but at least he's starting the process.

I'm just glad to see him finally start playing. I knew he wouldn't hit immediately. He's spent most of the last 2 years on the sidelines.

Interesting ESP if he is our Lf of the future. .

he'll likely play right. He's got a better arm and more speed than Ethier.

A lot will depend when he hits the bigs. Our best hitting prospect is a center fielder and is at High A. So he will probably hit the bigs right around the time, or before, Puig.

That's why many people think Ethier may be moved to first.

Derek Brink
08-02-2012, 11:28 PM
I really doubt Pederson makes the bigs before Puig, especially with the money invested in Puig.

It will be close. Pederson will be at Double A for sure next year. Puig might start the year at High A. If Puig absolutely clobbers the ball he could end up in the majors next September. Pederson could do the same thing. Right now Puig is 3 levels below Pederson and Pederson is crushing the ball. Puig would have to kill the ball to pass him.

I personally think both will be given a shot to win a job in spring of 2014.

LASportsFan1996

Puig has to be given more of a chance to win the job, with the money invested.

Derek Brink

Puig has to be given more of a chance to win the job, with the money invested.

I don't think that matters. Dodgers beat reporters who have talked to Dodgers management say they view Puig as raw and a long term investment.

Also I don't think it matters as I think they move Dre. We don't have a long term 1B option and there aren't any in free agency. If we have two great outfield prospects then we give both a chance rather than playing a mediocre 1B.

he's 21, this isn't some 16 year old Dominican no one heard of 6 months ago. Puig has a long career already behind him with multiple appearances at the world level.

He's had the same age listed the entire time. So Cuba would have to be in on the conspiracy with Yasiel.

why we have 3 OF spots? i mean you guys keep talking about putting him there, but that seems like an awful idea, also, where will corey sager play?

Corey Seager will player third and he's probably 4-5 years away.

Yes we have 3 outfield spots but 8 of our top 9 or 10 hitting prospects are outfielders. Between Puig, Pederson, Silverio, Sands, Castellanos, Van Slyke, Scott Schebler and Blake Smith we'll likely have 2 outfielders come through the system.

I think most likely we will fill both of those outfield slots through our system. Puig, Smith, Silverio, Pederson, Castellanos, Van Slyke and Sands are all within 2 years of hitting the bigs.

If they don't then we keep Dre in the outfield. I think all of us who think Dre will move to third just see it as a way to finally fill that first base hole. Would you rather have Dre in the outfield blocking our to prospects while Loney and on fill first base? Or would you rather have him at first giving us a chance to play Puig, Pederson, Smith, Sands, Castellanos, Silverio and on?

Yasiel Puig (http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=624577)

30 ab, 12 hits, 3 triples, 4 HR, 11 rbi, 7 so, 6 walks (with and intentional walk already), .400 avg. He's looking pretty good so far. he's only 1 for 2 sb wise but that's fine. I'm interested in the ibb. Was it a load* the bases for a force IBB or was it a first is open put him on and face the next guy.

That would be great. Pederson will probably be up shortly after so we'll have a logjam in the outfield. At that point will have to either move one of the guys or trade a player. Hopefully not Pederson because he's very, very good.

absolutely no way, he's on the forty man because he has a major league contract.

He's played 3 games above rookie ball. I'd be very surprised if he's called up before September of next year. He's basically played 3 games against pitchers who are not high schoolers.

lol you really don't follow the minors huh? The difference in talent from High A to the majors is ridiculous. Especially since most teams skip the Cal league with their best pitchers since it's so slanted towards hitters.

Where would he even play if called up? Are you going to bench Victorino, Dre or Kemp?

Colletti laughed at reporters the other day when they asked if Puig would be called up this season.

He wouldn't even be our first option if someone got hurt. They would call up Sands, Castellanos or Blake Smith.

I love that he's hitting well but people are going crazy a little bit. He's not even our best hitting prospect and probably won't even crack the top 100 next year.

I would move Andre to 1st base in any games that Puig would be starting, I figure we kept trash like Uribe and Loney around this long because of money invested, well we have quite a bit of money invested in Puig I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do in the majors! Puig is 2 years older than Bryce Harper and 1 year older than Mike Trout

yes but he is nowhere near as good a prospect as either of them and unlike Trout and Harper who have been playing everyday for years Puig spent most of the last 2 years not playing at all.

Also Ethier hasn't played first base in years. You can't just move him midseason when he's never played first base regularly.

If anyone is going to replace our woeful first base combo it will be Sands who has already played first a ton, is hitting just as well as Puig right now and who is playing against good pitchers on a daily basis. Puig just isn't ready.

I just don't see how it makes sense in any way to promote Puig to the majors this year.

Puig is going to be very good but he is still pretty raw. He has power, speed and a cannon. I'm guessing he will be up mid to late next year at best.

Overall I would say Joc Pederson and Puig are studs that have a legit shot.

Puig has plenty of speed, a very strong Arm and crushes the ball effortlessly. Looks to be the real deal. I would bet he will play next year at AAA and get bumped up the year after.

Joc Pederson absolutely ripped it tonight.. The kid is legit. HR over right field wall, 2B off center field wall, double deep into LF.... Use the whole field when hitting...

I asked the other players and they all said they were the 2 would were most likely to make it.

Did we draft Pederson or acquire him in a trade?

draft him, 11th round pick that would of went earlier but had a strong commitment to USC. Dodgers paid him a 600,000 dollar signing bonus and he chose to sign.

All he's done is crush the ball since and usually as one of the youngest players in his league.

What year did we draft him?

2010 he signed too late to play much at all in 2010 and actually got a higher signing bonus than anyone besides our #1 pick, Zach Lee.

Scott Schebler is another guy we persuaded to sign that year rather than go to college. He's not killing the ball or anything but has a lot of potential.

I remember 2010 because Dodgers prospect fans were pissed because it looked like we might not get any of Lee, Pederson or Schebler signed.
