View Full Version : Next Season's breakout Center?

Aust

Last year was clearly Andrew Bynumís breakout season. Who will the 2012-2013 season go to? If you had to pick a center who will end the season as the clear #3 in the league, who would you choose and why?

Evolution23

Brook Lopez will now average 6 rebounds per game and will play defense for 5 mins a game. He's my pick.

DeMarcus "Black Jesus" Cousins

All of these Centers have shown flashes of potential. I'd go with Lopez or Cousins, with McGee being my dark horse

Monroe, though I think Pekovic should be an option here.

When I saw the thread title thought Pekovic was the center the OP was talking about. He came out of nowhere last year.

Hibbert without a Doubt.

Greg Monroe. I think he will average around 17-19 PPG 10-11 RPG 2-3 APG and keep up his great efficiency.

I think Knight being more experienced and the Pistons adding a couple good defensive bigs will make Monroe even better.

Maybe, but I doubt he starts next season. Hes very raw. I think Monroe and Drummond can play both positions anyways. Just depends on the match-ups.

Hate because we don't think he'll have a breakout season? There are some Centers who have higher potential so it's not unreasonable to think so.

Cousins, although you could argue he broke out in a way last season. As a homer pick, I would like to see Omer Asik added to this poll. I don't think he'll ever be a good offensive player, but I could see him being a 10/10/2 guy or a poor man's Ben Wallace. If he gets starter minutes in Houston, he could be a defensive beast.

Again, just a joke.

But in reality I think he's the best one on this list for such a season. His team is the most improved and he moves from being the #1-2 option on offense to being #3, for such an offensive savvy player, thats a big deal. But of course this is just my personal opinion.

cousins without a doubt. I actually think he can muscle his way into all star if DH stays East and Bynum decides to cerebrate his break out year last yr by taking a vacation this year. If DH ends up in the West, then that's another whole different ball game

My other pick would be Brook Lopez. He is out to prove the nets wrong for trying to trade him for DH

Either Pekovic of the Wolves or Sleeper Fab Melo of Boston. I think he is going to prove to be a better option than Ryan Hollins was for them last year. PLaying with KG to start is nice. I can see him getting 4ppg, 5rpg 1.4 blocks. Rookie 2nd team Center?

Yes of course, I can expand on most NBA teams outside of mine, I just choose to talk Nets basketball because it interests me more (as well as being a fan of the team). That post, as I stated previously, was just a joke.

I didn't see all the Piston's summer league games, but from what I saw Drummond didn't impress me in the least.

Al, Muuuuutherrrfreakkkinggg, Horford. He's got a lot to prove after missing most the season, and loosing in the fashion they did to boston with the blown call. Also, with JJ and Marvin out of the picture this allows him to gain more touches and solidify his presence as a low post threat with that sweet mid range jumper he has. Also, he does have that pep to his step on defense, he hustles plays on, and not to mention HAVE YOU SEEN HIM RUN THE BREAK?!?! Handles well and finishes around the rim with AUTHORITY. THIS THREAD IS GARBAGE FOR NOT EVEN HAVING HIS NAME ON THE VOTING BALLET. I Quote Young Jeezy on this, "GET YO MIND RIGHT"

1. DeMarcus Cousins - He'll break out toward an all-star level.
2. JaVale McGee - He's got the talent; he'll start making better decisions more often; and now he's the lone force at center for the Nuggets with Nene Hilario and Chris Andersen gone.
3. DeAndre Jordan - He's less talented than McGee but makes better decisions and gets to play alongside Chris Paul.
4. Brook Lopez - He's established offensively, so there's not much room to break out there. He's been pretty soft so far, so he might break out by getting more than eight rebounds and one block per game (hold your snickers).
5. Greg Monroe - He might not even belong on this list, since he'll play a lot of power foward alongside Andre Drummond at center. Replace him with Nikola Pekovic, who might also break out in a defensive role next to the brilliance of Kevin Love.

Since the rockets just gave him a big contract and since they don't currently have any other centers... my guess is that Omar Asik will be posting some nice fantasy numbers. I don't think he will be among the elite at his position by any stretch of the imagination, but his per-36 minute stats were pretty solid, so if he's getting the minutes he'll be among the league leaders in rebounds at least.
