Haven't seen much of Xavier Henry but I know the Suns are in need of a SG. Would the Hornets swap him for Lopez?

king4day
07-24-2012, 02:14 PM
I don't see why the Suns are trying to retain him. We have 6 big men between Gortat, Scola, Frye, Morris, Warrick, and Lopez (if he stays).
I don't think any Suns fan forsees him returning.
Had we not acquired Scola, I could have seen Landry being an option.
I see no value in a return for Lopez though.

I think Lopez is a very good option to have a TRUE center this year. Lopez played very well off the bench during his minutes on the floor. I think if given a starting role, he would make a huge impact. I say what the hell. Give it a shot.

If reports are accurate Phoenix walk away as big winners in this trade. Depending on whose first round pick it is then New Orleans will be a winner too with Minny being big losers.

Phx Give up: Warrick (Close to the worst defender in the league, No game other than a dunk here or there), Lopez (Solid backup centre, should not ever start on any team however. Super slow but a true centre so will be nice to rotate with Davis, Anderson, Smith)

Get: Wes Johnson (4th round pick, lots of upside, no risk. He has been terrible and for what we are giving up it reflects his value, nothing. Therefore, being that high a draft pick and still so young he still has potential and is no risk to Phoenix). First round pick (No idea how we got a first round pick in this for what was giving up but that just makes Phoenix walk away as winners of the trade. If unprotected Minnesota it is probably going to be anywhere from 12-20.

New Orleans Give up: Brad Millers Retired Contract, Dyson (**** dleague pg), 2nd round draft pick

Get: Lopez (good backup centre and basically given nothing up for him, win/win for N.O although doesn't improve them very much.

Minnesota Give up: 1st round draft pick, wes j

Get: Dyson, 2nd round pick and some cap space.

Phoenix:

Pg: Dragic/Marshall/Telfair
Sg: Dudley/Brown
Sf: Beasley/Johnson
Pf: Scola/Morris
C: Gortat/Frye

2013: 3 First round draft picks, 2 secound round draft picks.

Somehow manage to get rid of those filthy Warrick and Childress contracts. What an offseason.

Didn't Phoenix come out and say Dudley would be starting sg this season. There is a post somewhere in the Phoenix forum of a link to Gentry saying Dudley will be played mainly at sg starting ahead of brown..?

Also add in PJ Tucker into that lineup as 3rd string sg/sf

It's very possible. I just strongly believe Dudley is a hundred times better coming off the bench, he has a chance to be a 6th man (6/7th with Morris) and really provide instant offense. Also we gave him a chance last year as starting 2 guard and wasn't impressed. Tucker won't be that big for us this year IMO.

I will gladly take Lopez, since our coach knows how to make their plays play to their fullest.... and he is an amazing defensive coach, and that is really what Lopez will do, and don't give me your BS you didn't want Mayo, I know damn well you wanted him after you lost out on EJ... not "EG"

God help New Orleans.

why we gave up a guy about to retire, a scrub that might not make the team, and a 2nd round pick? We got a guy with size that can at least just stand in the damn way lol. We had NO CENTERS before this. People act like we are trying to win now, we are rebuilding and lopez is just going to be a rotational stop gap until we draft a C in the top 5 next year.

Sounds like an awesome move to me for the hornets, suns got a good deal too( great if T'wolves blow or wes finds it), and T'wolves cleared cap to sign a proven player in AK47 likely.

You can't evaluate a trade until it works itself out. If the Wolves are able to sign AK-47, sending a #16-20 pick away with the waste of space that is Wes Johnson, we did just fine from out perspective. I understand fans evaluate it only for what their team gets, but I think this is a salary clear for the Wolves, nothing else. Wes is horrible.

Personally I like the move due to the fact that it is ROBIN LOPEZ lol. We all know he isn't that good, and this all but assures that we will get a C with our first draft pick next year. Not a blow on Austin Rivers because he will be good, but we didn't need another SG/PG at the moment we needed a C. Next year no matter how bad rivers-gordon-aminu/miller/henry-davis do we know Lopez will stink it up the most so we go after a C and give the young guys another year to develope. There is always that tincy wincy chance that Lopez is actually good and we are able to get the BPA(probably still a center lol).

All in all this will help our season and future one way or another.

It's weird because this deal doesn't really help Minny.

$4,640,000 Warrick in some places, $4,000,000 in others.

$4,285,560 Johnson.

A multi-team deal has emerged that could serve to clear cap space for Andrei Kirilenko to return to the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to a league source.

The potential deal comes amid reports that the Timberwolves are interested in signing the 31-year-old Kirilenko.

In the deal, the Phoenix Suns would send Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick to New Orleans, and the Suns would get Wesley Johnson and a future first-round pick from Minnesota. The source said New Orleans would trade Brad Miller to the Suns. It's unclear what Minnesota would get from the deal.

New orleans cop Warrick too.

Lopez played his best ball when he had Amar'e next to him. I think the first year might be a little ugly but if Davis becomes what he's expected to become, Lopez will flourish.

With the kind of money being thrown out there, 5mil a year for 3 years is really not bad at all. They could deal him in a couple years too. Like it or not, Lopez has experience on him. He could actually help mentor a lil.

It for sure has. I was just citing examples closer to what Pek's agent will be seeking.

That's simply the Nets since Prokorov took over. He said from day 1 that he'd spend.

This is why I kind of feel like defending the signing for the Hornets - the Wolves took so much heat for Darko. That's just the market price though.

Same thing happened when he came to Minnesota. He talked about growing up and maturing in part because he had a kid and that he wanted to be a leader for the young Wolves. He went on to smack a fan at a NYC streetball game and get caught with pot again.

On the court, he is clueless even when he puts effort into defending. Offensively, he stops the ball. So many times the ball was rotating, got to him and the defense caught up.

Yea but the difference is that Beasley has never played for a "players coach" like Gentry.

Alvin's the same guy who made Goran Dragic, Jared Dudley, Channing Frye, Marcin Gortat etc what they are today. Of course Frye is still not that good but everyone else is very solid role players.

And now Alvin finally gets a guy who can be MORE than just a role player. I'm excited to see what he can do but if he busts out here too, no big deal his deal is only on for 3 years at just $6M.

Don't forget Telfair, and Brown.

Lopez isnt that good. He can be but he isn't. He is too uncoordinated, and New Orleans will find that out real quick. Even as a Back up center he will frustrate you. He commits dumb fouls, and at 5-6 million a year is a high price for him. Some suns fans were maybe thinking about giving him 4 mill and that was a stretch.

Look, I'm not trying to put a damper on your team's offseason. I actually like Wes quite a bit more than a lot of other Wolves fans and if I were a Suns fan I'd be more excited to see if he can be aggressive enough to utilize his talent and athleticism.

I don't care what kind of coach you've played for, the Beasley story is the same thing over and over. It'd be great for him to put it together, but we've been there before. I'm sure half the Suns fans will get all riled up about "how good he can be" when he averages a high number of points while ignoring how many shots he takes and how he takes the team out of the flow of their offense.

As for those other names, I respect what Gentry has done, but Frye was doing very well in New York, Gortat was valued by many teams as a starter and only remained a backup because he was a RFA, Dragic wasn't so highly regarded until he got to Houston and there's not much to say about Dudley's start with the Bobcats because quite honestly I don't remember it. Simply watch video of the shots Beasley takes and you will understand why he is destined for the title of "could have been."

Solid trade for NO. Now they need a SF.

No, look at how bad Dudley and Dragic played when Terry Porter was the HC. Pretty sure Nash was the PG back then too.

Sometimes, Nash gets too much credit.

See it's moves like this (that makes sense) that makes the NBA more interesting. When "small market" teams make their teams better through wise decisions. Excited to see the Suns with Dragic, the new NO and Minny has gotten really interesting. Hoping for good health in Minny though.

The Suns sent Minnesota one of the second-round picks (2014) that they got from the Lakers in the Nash sign-and-trade. @chrislewisxtra

It was a joke. That's just his nickname. He should be thrilled since he'll see playing time now.

He can joke all he want, he should know that we aren't going to keep him passed this season, so he shouldn't be looking for any houses in New Orleans

I hope he does well for you guys. I'm sure, like you said, it'll be a one year rental, but it'd be nice to see him have some success when given playing time.
At the least, maybe at the deadline or next offseason you can trade his expiring to a team looking to unload something.

Yeah like I wouldnt mind if we keep him and decline his option, and resign him for cheap after the season, or we can trade him for something, an asset or two.
