Anytime i open a Thread Related to Defense philly gets mad props as a top 5 team on D last year and people speak as if that is going to continue into next year.
Only 1 Problem our starting Bigs are Kawame Brown and Spencer Hawes
our Awfull inside D was masked by 2 things
1. great Premiter Defenders (Jrue And IGGY (Evan to a lesser extent)
2. Elton brand
Iggy gets alot of Credit for anchoring a top 5 ~ 10 D last year
but i would Aruge Brand had an Even bigger Impact
Without Brand i question if this is even a playoff roster let alone a Top 10 Defense Thoughts?

PS who are the top 10 Defenseive teams in your oppoin and why

Yep, defensively Brand was very underrated all season. He-Jrue-Iggy were a great fit they just needed a true #1 scorer.

I'd have to say Elton was pretty underrated as a defender. Him & Iggy were hands down the two best on the team last year.

he allowed the fewest ppg in the post this past season.

No one knows about it, but he's still a lockdown post defender.

Mavs got a great pickup.

He's up there. But until this year that title belonged to Tony Allen.

haberstroh wrote an article saying he should be in the running for DPOY(obviously he gave a ton of stats to back it up)

Statistically he was VERY valuable defensively. Now if we just base our opinion on the eye test we would have said he was man handled on occasion in the low post but really that was just on occasion it wasn't frequent as Brand's D was indeed very stellar.

Marc Cuban said it himself was because of Elton Brand's advanced defensive metrics that the Mavs so confidently went after him. He was very valuable defensively last season.

i think he is a decent pick up for us at the def end

His knees suck

Brand can barely jump anymore, but he makes up for it by having that freakish wingspan. Watching him block shots is hilarious. He can barely get off the floor, but he always positions himself well and just times his blocks perfectly.

Being from Canada has nothing to do with hating the Knicks you moron.

Back to the topic at hand, I think Dallas got a pretty big steal with Brand, he's going to look real good for them this season, and I think Dallas is going to be a solid squad.

Brand has been a great defender since his rookie year. He's always been a good shot blocker and great rebounder. He did damage on both ends of the court for the Bulls...

It looks like he's finally starting to shake some of those injuries he's had for a long while. He blocked the **** out of Carlos Boozer a couple of times during the playoffs.

The Mavs have got themselves a very good player. How's the lineup going to look? I would start both Dirk and Elton but who's going to play where? Tough decision...

I don't know if he is the MOST underrated, but he is definitely underrated defensively the last couple of seasons.

It seems that everyone still thinks of Brand as the guy who went from being one of the top power forwards in the game to the injured Brand that couldn't live up to his contract. That stigma has blinded people to how well he has played defensively. He is an incredibly intelligent defender.
