View Full Version : How good would've Phoenix been if egos didn't get in the way...

...and retained all their players? would they be elite in terms of talent like LA, Miami, and Boston? could they have win a championship?

PG - Nash/Dragic
SG - Johnson/Barbosa
SF - Marion/Hill
PF - Amare/Amudson
C - Lopez/Frye

***edit***
so the roster I originally posted was criticized for being not accurate enough. Here's a more updated, realistic roster.

Phoenix was good regardless man, but they were never going to win a title being offensive minded with Dantoni.

If they had a good defensive assistant coach like Dwayne Casey they would have won a championship

If only they didn't trade Rondo....

**** egos how about if they just got in the way once in a while and stopped the ball from going in their net

Well first of all. Johnson was traded for boris diaw, so it one or the other, and obviously Johnson should not have been traded.

they also traded away rondo and luol deng...dont sell off those pieces and look how much stronger you are

I think any team that has a legit post presence with a good cast beats them still, because Amare isn't good enough on D, and Marion is too undersized. IMO anyway

Never would have won. A steve nash and d'antoni team was never able to play enough defense to make a finals appearance

people say you couldn't win a championship without a big man, but look at Miami now  Bosh was barely a factor in Miami's championship run

Thats an exception to the rule, when you have the best player in the league, you really don't need a big man. The thing is Miami also played tremendous defense.

Jordan had Luc Longley fyi.

Considering Joe Johnson was traded for Diaw, who was later traded for J. Richardson, the team you have there would never have player together regardless of egos.

Joe Johnson was traded for Boris Diaw. Also, the reason they traded Joe Johnson was because he wanted to get paid, and the Suns weren't having it. Boris Diaw was then traded for Jason Richardson. Richardson was traded for Kurt Thomas.

So basically, the roster you put is clearly inaccurate, and then you don't even know the whole story.

It would definitely be possible to have this roster:

Nash/Dragic
Johnson/Barbosa
Marion/Hill
Amare/Amudson
Lopez/Frye

Lopez would be the only one to potentially not be there, for he was drafted 14th overall, and that suns squad may not have been that bad. So lets say they signed Camby instead. Or somehow still managed to pull of a Gortat trade. That suns team could have been so good.

Even though post-D wasn't good, they still could have won a 'ship had a few plays gone their way. You know the game I'm talking about :(

They would've won in 07 if they didn't get robbed by Horry and the Refs against Spurs. That was some dodgy dodgy decision making.

I'm going to base my response off of Phoenix having that starting 5 as the rest came later. Assuming they added bench pieces and went all out for a center, they would've been pretty darn good. It seemed like year after year they battled with the Spurs and kept coming out on the losing end, but that was in part to them not playing... let's call it "playoff basketball." You know the Bruce Bowen/Cheap Shot Rob sort of plays.

Actually I remember in the Suns forum for like TWO WHOLE YEARS we were begging for the Suns to get Tyson Chandler from the Hornets when he was kind of bad/injured. That was before his Dallas/NY days. Funny how he is paired up with Amare now.

If Phoenix was able to trade Ben Wallace to the Hornets for Tyson chandler no doubt they win the championship.

Q-Rich would have never started over J-Rich.

They needed a center that could run the floor and block shots

Chandler would have cost the team someone like Diaw or Barbosa. Hornets needed a big man though.

Pretty much the same results, outside of shawn marion and raja bell they had NO defense what so ever....just not a part D'Antoni's formula

To be honest, we would have won the title that year where the Spurs put a bounty on Steve Nash and Robert Horry cashed in. Then A'mare and Diaw got suspended and just ruined that series.

San Antonio robbed us that year.
