Brian Shaw, though..

He's the best.

Apparently Kobe is a good free stylist. I cannot find the link in which I read that, but it said that he was apparently a "vicious rapper" and would battle guys while on the road.... Although when I read that, I think of "K.O.B.E."

But who knows, maybe he really is a good rapper. Just kind of a bad song.

Nas Says Shaq Tops Kobe As A Rapper

Yap all you want about whether Shaquille O’Neal or Kobe Bryant is a better basketball player, but Nas wants you to know that one of them outshines the other when it comes to rapping: “Shaq got that,” said Nas, who knows a thing or two about what he’s talking about. The guy has released eight consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums.

However, former Laker Cedric Ceballos says he, O’Neal, Bryant and Corie Blount used to have freestyle rap throwdowns on team flights and Kobe often won. Looks like we’re going to have to bring in President Obama for a beer summit to settle this one. [Source]

Shaq was spittin' back in the day when Hiphop was at it's apex and music was actually about lyrics, beats, hooks, samples & cuts. That's why when you hear something out the 90's it still quality. the standard stood the test of time - reason why somebody like Shaw sounds better than 70% of rappers today haha.

Shaq not only held his own against 90's MC's but he did it during a time when Hiphop changed styles from the very early 90's tongue twist days (Fu Shnickens) and then to the more Clarity style (about the same time the West G-funk style began to dominate). And Shaq was able to adjust to the transition. going from Shaq-Fu to lacing RZA beats along side Meth on no hooks and then later on was on tracks with Common (a fave of mine) and the mighty Black Thought.

Yes Shaq eats up all these NBA wanna be mc's and rappers.

i think it's funny these rap snobs act like SHAQ isn't legit? unless you're talking speed rapping, like bone etc, rap requires very little talent whatsoever, it comes down to the songs, beats, & the album overall, & SHAQ's first album was pretty awesome in that regard, he sounded just fine. the thing was a big hit. platinum. i believe his 2nd album went gold, pretty impressive

I'm sorry but all this rap is garbage. These NBA players need to stick to the NBA. The op asked what nba player is the best rapper. It's like comparing garbage against garbage...it all stinks.

I grew up to 90's rap. 2pac, Dr Dre, Snoop, Biggie, Bone, Easy E, DMX, To Short, Ice Cube, Busta Rhyms, Red and Meth, Outkast, Nas, Jay Z, Cypress HIll....list goes on and on. Todays rap is just terrible, todays rap doesn't even touch the 2nd tier rappers of the 90's. Twista, E 40, Ice T, Kurupt, LL Cool J, KRS one, Common, Slick Rick, Master P, Mobb Deep, brotha Lynch.

So these rap threads make me laugh. If people listen to this crap and say it's "decent" then I'm sorry you don't know what great rap was. These are just NBA players who have enough money to make a music video and put it out there for you to see. I'm sorry but that isn't quality in any means.

Slick Rick 2nd Tier? Ok maybe thats debateable. looking at your choices tells me you are definitely a child of the 90s. But if youre rap listening career started when the genre began back in the late 70s through the early 80s you would never....EVER....call...

KRS ONE A second tier rapper. KRS would have served and destroyed every rapper you got as a 1st tier rapper.

And you didnt even mention Rakim. Rakim and KRS are at the top of the genre as far as freestyle and lyricists go. They would have single handedly destroyed every rapper of the 90s and the 00s.

With the exception of Biggie.
