View Full Version : Where does Brooklyn finish in the East?

I know there have been plenty of Nets threads over the past few weeks. So if this is an unnecessary thread, the mods can delete it.

I made a bet with my friends the other night. I bet him $100 the Nets would finish anywhere from 1-6 in the Eastern Conference. He thinks otherwise, agreeing to my bet saying they'll finish 7th or 8th.

So I ask PSD, honestly, without bias or anything of that sort, where do you predict the Nets finished among Eastern Conference teams?

I have them placed either 5th or 6th.

What say you?

EDIT: Here's their roster as of 7/16

PG Williams/Watson/Taylor
SG Johnson/Brooks/Stackhouse
SF Wallace/Thornton/Shengalia
PF Teletovic/Evans
C Lopez/Free Agent C

I have them 7th right now

Same team as last year with Joe Johnson and an even worse bench than last year

But the playoffs is the goal for the franchise so its not bad to be a 7th seed

I'm not going to list each seed because that's too many options to choose from and I want a general consensus as to if this team is a second round team or not.

Also, I only listed these seed ranges because that was the bet between my buddy and I.

The thing is the team is not the same from last year at all. Lopez wasn't healthy, Wallace was only there for about 15 games and JJ wasn't there.

With Marshon coming off the bench its definitely a different team.

JerseyPalahniuk
07-17-2012, 12:08 AM
That is not their full roster. Thornton and Shengalia don't even have verbal committments to the team. Keith Bogans was verbally committed today, decreasing the likelyhood of Thornton even more. I hope (think) Shengalia will make it though, but our #1 priority now (after Hump re-signing) is a backup center. And to the poll: 3-6 seed depending on how the chemistry between the players works out.

Gagan136

Anywhere from 5th-8th.

dude, there is no point in arguing with LTbaby. He is a bonafied anti-Nets troll. I have never seen him post anything positive or reasonable about the team. Just ignore him. He also has yet to respond to any of my arguments in other threads with more than one sentence (if he does respond)

Should have just done top 4 seed (HCA in 1st round) or bottom 4 seed.

Hard to tell.. They could be extremely good, or they could be mediocre.. Depends on Deron, they need the Deron that played for the Jazz.

I see them finishing as the 5-6 seed out East.. 4th seed is not out of the question though.

This poll is too easy. Name me 6 better teams better in the East. I think you can easily argue 5; Miami, Chicago, Boston, Indiana and New York...maybe Atlanta and Milwaukee, but I don't think so. I've never seen the conference's so lopsided. Pretty much every team in the West besides New Orleans and Sacto would be sure fire playoff teams in the East. The East has Orlando, Toronto, Detriot, Cleveland, Washington and Charlotte. That's a bad group of basketball teams.

If they have chemistry, then I'd say they are more than capable of getting home-court advantage in the first round. With Lopez out all but two games last season, they are essentially adding two starters to last years squad in Lopez and Johnson. And the fact they have to offensive talents to draw defenders in Lopez and Johnson means that D-Will will be getting better looks as the defences won't be able to focus on him. This squad likely has the best starting line-up in the league, and they have also got some potential on the bench. Now it's just a matter of finding chemistry. But this roster can contend.

Seee...that's what I've always said. People were already crowning them better than the Knicks but to me, all I saw was that they gave Morrow for Joe (improvement, even though it was expensive) and lost Green.

So yes, they'll improve but I don't think its some dramatic increase.

Knicks are still better. Knicks were only a 7th seed because of Dantoni being the coach. Now that he's not there, they're a lock for a top 4 slot.

I say the Nets will be 7th-8th seed or fighting for a playoff spot (kinda like the Bucks last year, but better).

jj and lopez/wallace 4 a whole season (barring injury). i believe that would make a difference. being that lopez plays a big role in our offense.

They are the Brooklyn Hawks. Pretty much same teams
how r they the hawks? just because we got jj? when have they had a top 3 pg?

i think we can go anywhere from 4-8. on paper we look good but we cant always judge off that.

Brook Lopez played five games last year. So Johan Petro for Brook Lopez. That alone might make them a playoff team considering how awful Petro was.
Gerald Wallace played sixteen games for the Nets. So any of Damion James/Shawne Williams/Deshawn Stevenson/Keith Bogans/Gerald Green for Gerald Wallace.

They are a different team than last year. And even if they weren't, they would be a healthier version of last years team, which would make them better.

1st of all, KNICKS WILL BE THE 2ND SEED IN THE EAST!!! Lets just establish that 1st! The Bulls have a chance at that 2nd spot, but without D-Rose 100% healthy, they may fall hard next season. Knicks whipped the Pacers last season with Lin under the Woodson regime (back to back games, but lost the 3rd game after they were smashing them early, got complacent and eventually lost). So if they sign Lin (which they probably would), and have a full healthy training camp 2getha, they'll be a very strong team built on D-Fense....

I'm hoping BK can be at best a 4th seed, but they're gona need a lot of Defense to compete for a high seed. At this point, they're mediocre on D....So prolly like 6-8 Seed....

Teletovic should be a great offensive pickup as well, and Shengalia might be raw but he looks versatile if he makes the team, which I think he can. D is an issue but they should have enough offense to do quite well in the regular season. I 'd say 5 is doable and depending on how Wash and Bucks and Cavs do, maybe better. Magic drop, Atlanta probably drops, Knicks are an unknown with an over heavy band of oldsters and retreads, as much as I've liked most of them...and Felton??????? I think they're going to miss JJ and Fields more than they know.

Other than that I think you're OK defensively, I don't think I'd say strong. And while decent to good D at the 1-3 can definitely help the weaker bigs play on that end, a team needs good D from its bigs, especially in the playoffs.
