When the Trail Blazers gave Roy his max deal, they were apparently able to insure only a fraction of it because of the condition of his knees. But, sources say, they were able to get a limited amount of permanent disability insurance on him that would cover $17 million of the amount owed the player.

As long as he was "permanently" disabled.

If and when Roy plays again, Portland apparently will not be able to collect that $17 million, none of which has been paid to date.

Reminds me of when Darius Miles/Memphis cost Portland $18m

Up soon, will tweet link: battle over Batum between TWolves and Blazers has ties to Roy and Martell Webster -- at least for Paul Allen

Darius Miles actually affected Portland's cap, though, so that was a little different. This just affects the owner's bank balance. Still interesting, though.

I doubt the Wolves will be a lottery team this year, especially if they are able to get Batum or Iggy.

Congrats on getting Brandon Roy now that he can't move, instead of when the Wolves drafted him and then traded him for Foye for no particular reason

Actually Roy loves Portland and he'd be back with us if the amenesty rule allowed you to return to your previous team before his contact runs out

This is very interesting:

"The Timberwolves, league sources say, are prepared to sign Batum to a four-year, $46.4 million offer sheet Sunday after repeatedly trying to trade for him. They have offered as many as three future first-round draft picks and even have dangled small forward Derrick Williams, the No. 2 pick in the 2011 draft."

at this point, both GM's are acting like 13 year old girls. I am so done with this Batum crap. Sign him, match him, and move on. Kahn is proving to be an idiot to me right now.

I'd say losing 17 million is a good trade off for ****ing up Brandon Roy's knees.
