I saw this a little while ago. 50G's?

I'd be a littler nervous if I were Kyrie. Kobe is like that old guy at the YMCA who posts you up every single time in a game of one-on-one

Kyrie Irving is turning into my new favorite player :)

If Kobe wins, Kyrie demands a trade to LA. That should've been the bet.

This would be fun to watch, they should do it at the all-star break. In fact, I'd rather watch a 1-on-1 contest of 10 of the better players in this league than anything else on all-star weekend

Kobe's D aint the same. I got Kyrie.

Have you ever played anyone 3 inches shorter than you and built lighter than you 1 on 1?

It's ridiculously easy to back them down in the post and score. Kobe just need Kyrie to miss once and it should be GG.

Haha totally. Kobe just needs to bring back the fro to look like Denzel in He Got Game

Yes, but Kobe just needs him to miss once. He would dominate him in the post and as long as he's not careless, he won't miss.

I'd debate the 'stronger and better' parts of that. You act like Kobe is finished - look back at the playoffs and you'll find it was Pau that played like a cissy girl and Bynum's inability to pass that put us out.

Kyrie is a baller though and dude has got balls

This is one on one, no refs, playground/street ball not NBA dynamics. Kobe's game is refined, sharp and perfected. Pick your poison his efficient at the arc, jumpers/fade aways & post up. Irving can't afford to miss, he'd have to rely very heavily on his quickness.

If anybody here is a long time baller and have ever experienced playing against younger skilled cats would know experience along with a more polished game is your weapon against much quicker and younger dudes. There's not a move you haven't seen on the court, while they may be more irratic & sloppy. I beleive this would be the case here.

Kobe all day, every day ;)

Kyrie wins. He is far faster now, and Kobe would be relegated to back downs in the post, while Kyrie can break Kobe down off the dribble.

Not a shot at Kobe, but staying in front of a lightning quick PG in the wide open is too much to ask anyone, especially someone with a million games on his knees.

the better PLAYER doesn't always win 1-1 battles. Fact. In 1-1, the faster player that can create the easy seperation has the advantage. Meaning the younger, far quicker player probably wins 1-1.

Thinking about it....they SHOULD make a 1 on 1 tournament for the allstar break. A quick game of 21. Have 8 players (or 4 players).

P1 vs P2
-----------P1/2 vs P3/4
P3 vs P4
--------------------------P1/2/3/4 vs P5/6/7/8
P5 vs P6
-----------P5/6 vs P7/8
P7 vs P8

Though I can see MANY players being "too scared" to do it in case they lose (just look at the Dunk contest! People back out and its cause they think they might lose).

8 players would be ideal, but 4 players would be good too. The drawings of the matchups would be random.

Lol you can tell at first Kobe was trying to be humble, when Irving was saying he wasn't some excited high school player, and Kobe was like "I'm not saying you are," but Kyrie kept going on and on about it. Then I think Kobe turned a little defensive and a little cocky after that because Irving was challenging him without letup.

Kobe seems either a little afraid or offended by the challenge.

Well cmon, Kobe has a high ego and hes extremely competitive. Not to mention, this man is the next thing closest to Jordan... Arguably still the best player in the league and he gets challenged by a kid that jus won ROY? I sure if you were a Senior and a freshman challenged you, you'd be like wtf, are you serious son? :eyebrow:

Regardless this is gonna be one hell of a match, Kyries nice, but I got Kobe on this one even if he is slightly slower than Kyrie.

I don't think it's the same.

Alot of Pro's see the dunk contest as kind of silly. High risk aerial maneouvers that they don't really need to do, especially when they have big contracts.

1v1 goes right to the personal PRIDE of the players. It's why they'll play 1v1 in their Spare time for FUN.

The real question is how many would chicken out for fear of being embarassed... on the other hand, if you did NOT participate, you risk being embarassed too.

I don't think you'd get everyone you'd want, but I'm sure more than a few Elite players would do it, especially if there was a suitable prize... like a Trophy and money for their Charity.

Actually, it was funny to hear Kyrie referring to Kobe as a "Boss" in that clip trying to goad him: "25 grand is nothing to a boss." LMFAO!

A young Kobe Bryant had a hard time defending AI, so speed certainly is to Kyrie's advantage. But it begins and ends there. Kobe's charity is about to receive $50K from the Irving foundation.

This reminds me of a Clint Eastwood movie where every kid with a six shooter in his hand and a shot of whiskey in his gut wants to go out and challenge one of the most lethal gunslingers of any era in attempt to make a name for himself. Someone better warn Kyrie that the Black Mamba doesn't play nice between the lines. Better watch the tape, young man. Watch the tape. :D

Yah... not so sure about that. Kobe in his prime is great, but not sure he matches up well against a player like Durant.

In 1v1, being a killer jump shooter is HUGE. Durant's length, plus ability to sink baskets from any range combined with his athleticism, speed and ability to finish at the rim would be VERY hard to stop.

That said, I don't think Durant stops Kobe in the post either... so it would basically turn into who's hitting/missing that day.

Kobe in his prime was a moron gunner, shot 3s after 3s & fade away hero shots vs double teams, that's why his FG% was always mediocre. time duncan was better 97-05, Wade was the man in 06, & LeBron has been the best since 07, just didn't have a good team until the Heat (yea last year's finals he was bad, but kobe was bad vs the pacers 15 ppg 36%FG, & pistons 22pp 36%) Celtics had no problems with him in 08. Kobe never had a playoff run as good as LeBron's this year, & could never take the worst roster in finals history (07 cavs) to the finals. that's almost championship worthy alone. Kobe's ego is inflated carrying around Shaq's titles he could have won with Ray Allen or AI in Kobe's place, 2nd fiddle titles don't impress me. he's got 2 of his own, just 2. MJ 6/6, duncan 4/4, Shaq 3/4

This.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

Even though Kobe has lost a step in recent years, his trash talking has only gotten better. He had some classic quotes in the video.

I'll take Kobe, his game is more designed for 1 on 1 and he's much bigger than Irving. Kyrie has the advantage with speed, but it isn't as big of an advantage playing half court one on one as size and strength are, both of which Kobe is superior.

And if prime Kobe played prime MJ 100 times, I'd say he wins around 30-35 of the games. Both were monsters, but MJ was a little bit more of a maniac when it came to winning.

Kobe won 2 titles with a mega stacked frontcort(& stacked team overall) but LeBron has been better all along. Durant is now clearly better too. a healthy Rose might school Kobe too, just break his ankles

it would be a good game. i dont think either player can guard each other. Kyrie is too fast and athletic for Kobe. Kobe has a slight height advantage and can shoot lights out. it'd be a great matchup but i think whoever gets to make it take it first wins (if thats how they would play).

Bruno
07-13-2012, 03:33 PM
kobes just gona give irving all the space in the world. Irving won't win the game off 15 footers. as soon as he misses, kobe will rack off five baskets in a row; that will happen once or twice, if they're going to 11 or 15. kobe will just post him all day.

in a few years this might be kyrie but it's Kobe for now. it's a big 14 year age gap but kobes still in good enough shape to beat the kid.

Gotta like Kyrie for going at this, but Kobe wins and its not close. All this talk about backing him down is nonsense. He simply shoots over him. There are few better iso players, and this is one on one. As for Kyries speed, we arent talking about a scrub here: Kobe knows how to defend. You sluff off the shorter quicker player and force him to be a jump shooter. He doesnt have the court space to fully utilize his speed, and he cant grow taller during the game. He shoots pressure filled 15 footers on a taller defender. Meanwhile, I am not sure how he defends Kobe.
Lots of Kobe hate over the years, but I dont think he loses this one.

Squad13
07-13-2012, 09:18 PM
Kyrie wins. He is far faster now, and Kobe would be relegated to back downs in the post, while Kyrie can break Kobe down off the dribble.

Not a shot at Kobe, but staying in front of a lightning quick PG in the wide open is too much to ask anyone, especially someone with a million games on his knees.
Never would have guessed you'd pick Kyrie :laugh2: Kobe just needs to back him down and he'll score on him every time. Make Kyrie shoot jumpers and it's game over.

You have Kyrie that much faster than Lawson? Lawson couldn't do **** for the final 7 minutes of game 7 with it all on the line and Kobe on him full court. Not even picks could get him off. And I mean not score a point or draw a foul. Kobe also held Harden in the 30s and held Westbrook to an awful shooting game to close the season. I think it's far more probable that the strong and big guy wins one on one when he has skills to boot as theirselves are no bail outs.

Kobe would old man strength that boy, hand check him, push him around, and the get the ball and bull him like when you are a kid playing with a sibling or parent

The only person I have heard Kobe say beat him before one on one even on the redeem team was Melo and they had a back and forward series, and it wasn't shocking when you see their playoff matchup after those Olympics and how Melo actually went out there and tried to defend and how Kobe wrestled with him
