Just throwing this out there... Lin will be trade able at the deadline.

A package of Chandler, Lin & Fields or Shump >>>>> Lopez on a max deal.

ALOT more players around the league will be tradable at the deadline, I can see why ORL did it, the offers they were getting were garbage.

Trading Howard for the right to give Brook freaking lopez a max deal?

I've said for weeks that DeVos was the only one who could approve a Howard trade, and that he was just letting his GMs put out feelers, put together a deal for him to approve or disapprove.

I also said there was no way that Howard gets traded before the season... actually before the tradeline if we're realistic. AND, the kicker, there is actually a better than 50% chance that Howard actually extends with the Orlando Magic eventually on a max contract.

I don't like the way orlando is trying to force howard to stay. This is pathetic to watch. just let the man go already. they are treating him like a slave now. I bet no other good free agent wants to go there now because they think they will be held hostage and guilted into staying with orlando for rest of their life

Actually they are treating him like an employee and a tradable asset (commodity).

Dwight could EASILY have opted out at any point prior to the deadline.

Honestly Howard demanding a trade to only one team screws Orlando. They can get better offers, but not without his extension. Howard could have been traded by now if that was all he wanted. Why the hell did he opt in? He could've been a free agent. He might have had to take less money, but he could already be in Brooklyn.

Howard wants it all he wants a max contract and to pick his team. He is holding the Magic hostage.

Hello!! Remember "The Phone Call"? Day before tradeline, they put a bunch of Orlando school children on a conference call with the magic donkey, while he was flying on the team plane without representation.

The children pleaded and begged for him to sign the extension, and surprise! Orlando lawyers were right there on the plane so Dwight could sign that instant and stop all the crying.

THAT is how Orlando got its awesome "negotiating leverage."

This is great. As a non-Orlando fan, I truly, TRULY want this to just continue for the rest of the year. Especially as someone who loathes the new CBA and has very limited respect for the way some of the lesser franchises inthe NBA are run, I just want to see this be the biggest story from now till next July.

But what would be the point of that? The Magic arent going anywhere anytime soon. They can retain Howard but theyll still be a first round exit team. How? They can let him walk and have a bunch of cap space, just like they would with a Houston deal. They just ripped his head off by telling him he won't be playing for the Nets.

Just let him walk... just let him WALK. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Orlando could've "just let him walk" this year already.

OR they could've sent him out and gotten 4 1st round draft picks, 2 or 3 in this years deep draft, as well as a few coveted and low cost rookies.

No... Orlando has big plans for Dwight. They are determined to either sign him, or score the biggest super deal in history.

If Dwight were clever or mentally strong, he could just stick to his guns that he wants to become a free agent, and will not sign an extension anywhere he goes.

Then just go out there, play the season, and have some fun with the interviews. Take the high road, let Orlando make itself look bad.

THEN, as the tradeline approaches, and Orlando starts pressuring again to sign the extension, or to do a sign and trade, etc, then you don't even talk to them. Don't even pick up the phone.

And then when he feel like playing, go out there and have some fun, play some streetball in an Orlando Magic uniform.

Howard said that he changed his mind on a plane ride back to Orlando, Magic just had played SA and were on the way home, it was like 3-4am and he decided that he wanted to waive his ETO. No was was with him on the plane guilting him to stay, it was what he wanted. Also he probably didn't want to be traded elsewhere besides the Nets, but again its his fault for waiving his ETO rather then playing somewhere for a few months and being a FA. And they don't think he is staying there anymore, who told you that, they are looking for a deal now.

I've seen people say just because he said he wants out once that they need to trade that player, what if the Lakers had did that with Kobe when he wanted out? You try to convince your star player to stay and build around them. Magic got more time when he waived his ETO, but the relationship soured and I guess he came back to the decision that he wanted the Nets. That gave us more of a chance to keep Howard then trading him right away.

You are JUST figuring this out now?

Fans are the first people to scream that players should be benched, replaced and traded.

FO's pack up their players like commodities and send them for other players like so many trading cards.

Players do the same. They chase money, chase rings, and want to play in places that are important/appealling to them.

As for Loyalty, the Magic showed PLENTY of Loyalty to Dwight. They tried to do EVERYTHING they could to RETAIN Dwight. The Magic didn't want Dwight to leave, DWIGHT WANTED TO LEAVE.

Loyalty is EARNED.

So Dwight says he wants out... what Loyalty does the Magic owe Dwight at that point? Oh right.... ZERO.

Dwight isn't Steve Nash.

Nash stayed for years and years. Nash did whatever his team asked. Nash turned down Money when other teams wanted to steal him.

And when Nash was near the end of his career, when the Suns felt they couldn't give Nash the deal he felt he needed, he asked the FO to trade him to a Division Rival so he could go for a ring and play near his family... and guess what happened? The Suns traded him to the Lakers... to their greatest Division Rival of the last Decade.

Why? Because they OWED Nash... and you repay Loyalty with Loyalty.

Yes, it's a business. And Loyalty is earned. Players like Nash and Duncan earn that loyalty.

Dwight? He wanted out... he treated the Magic like a rest stop on his way to a Ring. So the Magic returned the favor.

The Magic would have given Dwight max deals for years. They were willing to have him be the Star and build around him for years to come.

That wasn't good enough for Dwight.

No possible way to go to Brooklyn as a free agent after their spending spree this offseason. If he goes to the Rockets, he will leave no doubt. If he goes to Atlanta, I'm not convinced he leaves for sure, I'd say 50/50. If he goes to the Lakers, I'd bet the farm he stays. He isn't going to turn down more money in the biggest possible market on a winning team for any of the teams that have enough cap to lure him. Not worth it.

Max amount is dependent upon number of years in the league, how long they have been with that team, whether they have been an all star, mvp, etc.

People do this alot... They assume that other people share the same logic as them. I guess I have to be the one that tells you, each and every human being is different, and each of us has are own agenda.

You don't know what Cp3 is planning/thinking... So just stop it already.

The man already came out with the teams he wants to play for, Orlando is not on that list ( if this list thing i true ).

And once again, stop placing your logic on people that you don't even know. You don't no what bynum will do, when he's contract is up.

what is this website for? discussing sports and opinions I thought. I'm not going around saying that anyone who doesn't share my opinion is an idiot, I'm simply stating my perspective and that I don't agree with the folks who say that they are bolting just because they declined to extend. you don't have to be the one to tell me anything. I could give 2 *****, I'm not saying "everyone, listen up this is my logic and you better ****ing like it."

No one ****ing knows what Bynum or CP3 will do when their contracts are up, I'm just giving my opinion based on what is known.

#1- Bynum stands to make more money by waiting until current contract is up then resigning. It doesn't mean he would for sure resign, but it also doesn't mean he would bolt. Which is the point I was speaking to. I disagree with the thought that he would definitely bolt on Orlando. He'd have a large reason to strongly consider staying, plus the fact that Orlando is a pretty nice and desireable place to live AND they seem to rebuild every time their star leaves them and find success again. Think about it, if he wanted to stay in Orlando that would be the smarter way to do it right? Make more money and stay where you want. Again, (I can't emphasize enough with you since you seem to think I'm trying to force my opinion on everyone) I'm not speaking for him saying that he'd stay, I'm just saying that is inclination not to extend doesn't necessarily mean he wouldn't resign.

#2- CP3 has said that one of his biggest motivators was to be in a large market, and also to win. Once again, LA will give him that best opportunity. Neither NY team will have cap to sign him, and I think he'd come back to a better LA team (bigger market, currently looks to be set up to win alot more in the next few years) rather than Dallas. Not saying he will for sure say, just saying LA seems to have all the motivating factors to keep him based on what he's said he wants.

so do me a favor, and you "just stop it already." if you don't agree with my opinions, great you're entitled to that. a counter opinion or perspective is welcomed but don't twist my post and claim that I'm trying to place my logic upon people just b/c you don't agree with what I'm saying.

Dwight will just look dumb doing that. If he's too sensitive to allow Orlando to 'guilt' him into opting in than he shouldn't play in the NBA. He needs to be a man & accept what he did and give out a couple other teams he would be willing to sign with so ORL can trade him. The Lopez + Humphries + 3 late 1st rounders were not enough of a package for him. Remember their was news that Cleveland pulled out of the 3 team trade cause they didn't want to help create another superteam.

Well I'm not gonna lie I never wanted to see him a Net so I'm glad they're out of the sweepstakes.

However, good for them to put this **** to bed. That's a solid management move (which they haven't made too many of lately outside of getting D-Will back) to just say enough of this, we're moving on. They probably didn't want to risk anymore of a hit to Brook Lopez's ego or morale. However you put it, it can't be easy to know that you're being dangled for Dwight and be put on the back burner for so long. I'm sure his agent was starting to bark. In their situation they couldn't afford for it to go on any longer. Nice move setting a deadline and adhering to it.

Im sure its dead.

"We've moved on. It just got to a point where we couldn't keep going back and forth with Orlando. They had about 14 days to do something and didn't. We just had to move on, and we felt that way this morning," a Nets source told ESPNNewYork.com's Ian O'Connor.

The source said Lopez was close to signing an offer sheet, which would have prevented his inclusion in a Howard trade, anyway. One source close to the process told ESPN.com's Marc Stein the Portland Trail Blazers and Charlotte Bobcats had informed Lopez's camp they are prepared to sign him to four-year max offer sheets.

"Brook had two offer sheets [from Portland and Charlotte] and was about to sign one of them. We couldn't wait anymore," the source told O'Connor.

While the Nets consider their pursuit of Howard over, Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said in a news conference Wednesday that he is still talking to Brooklyn, characterizing the talks as being in "a stationary position."

I disagree with your misguided post. I would rather be in the Nets position because as long as they are in Brooklyn, big name players will look to sign there. (Iron Man voice): Lets do a head count here:

-Dwight Howard desperately wanted to be traded there
-Deron Williams resigned
-Gerald Wallace resigned
-Brook Lopez reportedly wanted to play in Brooklyn as bad as Howard did.
-Pretty much every meaningful FA had BKN on their list but BKN was too busy trying to trade for Howard; Camby, Fisher, Green (who wanted to take a discount to play there), and many more FA that i dont feel like naming.

I dont like the idea of the Nets selling low. Brook Lopez stock has fallen around the league. He is still valued enough to warrant max deals from POR, CHAR etc. but still anyone that follows the Nets will tell you Brook hasnt been himself the last two years.

he had Mono prior to his last full season and he came in weighing less than some small forwards and had to play through all this with a rebounding machine in Humphries. Then the next season he fractured his foot.

He had his best years while he was healthy and while he had VC and Harris there to take pressure off him. Since then he sees doubles and triple every night.

He is VERY talented despite what casual fans think and i never wanted the Nets to sell low on him. He has been working extremely hard this off season. His foot is fully healed and he has hit the weights and cut fat.

With Deron, Johnson, and Wallace there i expect Brook to have his best season.

lol i dont think you get it. Luxury tax only affects teams that play in small markets and cant afford it. The owner of the Nets will pay Johnsons contract and not even remember how much he paid. He has already DOUBLED his investment in the Nets and they havent even played a game in Brooklyn yet.

Nets will be a good team no doubt... But without Howard that Joe Johnson trade looks awful...

As far as Detroit goes... Players will go where the money is... ”super teams” will end once the new Lux Tax kicks in after next season cause I'm sure the Nets will just love paying Joe Johnson the equivalent to 30 million a year...

Good post - the ignorance in this thread is astonishing bro.

Pistons 3 titles - Nets 0 titles

We also have one of the richest owners in the league and these clowns are acting like they know what's up.

Once the new luxury tax kicks in - it's going to be really funny on here with all these bandwagon fans. There are other ways to aquire talent without even having to sign free agents with cap room also. Especially with teams desperate to dump salary because of tax implications.

Nets have never done **** in this league. Good luck going forward paying JJ all that money.

Also, any poster with half a brain realizes you can keep your rookies 8 years by matching offers. If Monroe/Knight/Drummond want to leave in 6+ years - so be it. But the honest truth is we'll be contenders before that happens and the Nets will still be pathetic.

Our current roster plus 30 million to play with is going to be interesting - Detroit knows how to win a title - Nets have never even come close - lol

I'm sure Brook Lopez is the answer to the Nets getting to the finals.

Charlie Villanueva = Brook Lopez

Saw Andre Drummond get abused in summer league but a 6'7 D-Leaguer. Good luck with him.
