View Full Version : 5th Annual PSD Player Rankings #10 PG In The NBA? (Volume: V)

Hey guys, Some of you may remember that for the last four years I have conducted a poll at the end of the season that had PSD users vote for the top 10 players at each position. The season is now over and the Heat have been crowned NBA champs which means its time to kick off the off-season player rankings.

A lot has changed since last season. Lebron was labelled by some as Choke Artist in the clutch and now this year had one of the greatest finals performances in recent memory. Let start the discussion since lots has changed since the start of last season. Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER. I will leave the poll open for one day and than we can carry on to the next best player at that position. I will add more players after each round. I have also included the results of those last 4 years so everyone can see how much things have changed...Enjoy.

REMEMBER this is based on who is the best player, not the player who has the potential to be the best

Changed my mind, I've got Curry here. If Rose can be voted 2nd without being healthy, then Curry deserves a top 10 vote.

I know you're just trying to be fair MHC, but you should've kept this list to those deserving.

Something like just:
Lawson
Curry
Rubio
Wall

Or something like that.

I know but Jack at least deserves to be on this list as he had a better year than the majority of the list...

3 best players left are by far Rubio, Curry, and Lawson. It all depends what you need your PG to do.

I went the homer route with Rubio, but all 3 are fine picks

Next year, Lin.. Next year..

On second thought, with all the votes Rubio is getting, i may as well vote for Lin. He was flat-out better.

Do people even realize that almost every PG on here has a statistical argument over Rubio?

What stats are you talking about? A comprehensive look at the stats and Rubio's impact of the Timberwolves (offense, defense and W%) and honestly Rubio has just a strong a case as anyone here.

I'm looking at basketball-reference and hoopdata. PER, WSs, TS%, AST%, USG%.

It seems like defensive stats are the only argument he has?

To be honest Swash i'm inerested in hearing this argument for Rubio over Lin, let alone guys like Lawson and Dragic. Seems like a joke to me.

Rubio's has shown he can defend but when his offensive stats are that putrid is that an argument you really want to make?

He's gonna be a good player, no doubt. Probably a top 5 PG eventually. But i can't believe he's in second place for this poll.

Rubio was a tpo 3 defensive PG last season and statistically he had the greatest defensive impact of any PG this past season. As a matter of a fact this past season he had a greater statistical impact of any gaurd not named Thabo Sefolosha.

Not even Tony Allen was as important to his team's D as Rubio was to his and it showed in their play when he went down. Remember Rubio was a PG who more times than not was guarding the opposing team's best guard while being a shark in the passing lanes and on the ball.

For his impact on D and team record Ricky Rubio absolutely deserves to be in this discussion anyone saying otherwise is crazy.

For the record I don't think he was better than Lawson and Curry but he absolutely deserves consideration here.

Rubio's offensive stats were so bad that it counters his defensive prowess. All things being equal, Lawson and Curry weren't the only players that outdid Rubio this year.

And i also find it ironic that Rose was voted in early on, but Curry won't even make the top ten. Something wrong with that picture.

Well defense is half the game and when you consider the kind of impact he had on the Wolves defensively and in terms of their record when he played it can be argued that its more than enough to give him a great case here.

Rubio's offensive stats were so bad that it counters his defensive prowess. All things being equal, Lawson and Curry weren't the only players that outdid Rubio this year.

Actually it doesn't. Rubio's #s tailed off as the season progressed but his playmaking (the most essential part of his offense) was still good enough to keep the his team afloat. He wasn't a hinderance to his team offensively when he was on the floor he was a big help.

And i also find it ironic that Rose was voted in early on, but Curry won't even make the top ten. Something wrong with that picture.

Well when you consider the fact that the Bulls were worlds better with Rose on the floor than they were without him and that he was flat out playing some of the best ball of his career when he was healthy you can see why.

It was really hard for me to leave Curry out of the top 10 but the guys who I had from 8-10 had so much bigger of an impact than Curry when they were on the floor (weren't neccesarily that much better but they were about par) and that was something I couldn't overlook.

Rose's impact on when he was healthy was better than that of any other PG not named Chris Paul and he outproduced all other as well.

Been voting for him since #8, Ty. Although Curry & Rubio can make a debate, they were injured and couldn't play a full season. If we base it on last year/currently, we don't know if Curry or Rubio can play a full season like they do when there healthy. Therefore, Ty got my vote since #8.

In the future...we're gonna look back at Lowry and Lawson rankings the same way that we look at Jose Calderon in 2009 and a slew of other players. Like "WTF are they doing there?"

Okay? point is he doesn't hit the floor much cause of injuries. Curry is good healthy but Ty was great all year and almost single handedly won the Nuggets Lakers series.

In my not-so humble opinion. If Rubio is getting legitimate votes, Lin deserves legitimate votes.

I went with Lawson. But if i knew people were going the route of the unproven PG, with boatloads of potential and a small sample-size, i totally would've went Lin, here.

Ty Lawson. Possible homer pick but I think I would have picked him either way.
