View Full Version : Chris Paul will pull a Deron Williams; won't rule out Knicks

NYSpirit1

LAS VEGAS – It has been nearly two years since Chris Paul made the toast heard ’round the NBA at Carmelo Anthony’s wedding.

“We’ll form our own Big 3,” Paul said of possibly joining forces with Amar’e Stoudemire and Anthony - who would be traded to the Knicks seven months later - in New York.

Well, Knicks fans are still waiting and they received a glimmer of hope last week when Paul declined to sign a three-year, $60 million extension with the Clippers. The decision makes financial sense since Paul can potentially sign a five-year, $108 million contract next summer.

“I know why I didn’t sign my extension,” Paul said on Sunday before the U.S. Olympic team practiced. “I’m going to play this season out and see what my options are.”

Paul wouldn’t entirely rule out ending up in a Knicks uniform and neither would Anthony, who smiled when asked about Paul’s future prospects.

But Paul admitted that he was encouraged by what the Clippers have done this summer in adding a couple of former Knicks: re-signing Chauncey Billups and signing Jamal Crawford. Moreover, Paul enjoyed his first season in Los Angeles. He made the All-Star team and the Clippers won a first-round playoff series.

“I love where I am, I love playing with the Clippers and I love playing with this guy (Blake Griffin),” Paul said. “At the end of the year I’ll weigh all my options. That will be my top priority going into next summer.”

Very interesting. Looks like he'll pull a Deron Williams by meeting with teams and weighing his options. It's not ideal for the Clippers to go through the nail biting process of what Deron just went through with the Nets. And if Dwight isn't traded to the Nets, it looks like 2013 will be the year of Howard-Paul free agency.

But as a Knick fan, I'm under the assumption the Knicks will be one of the teams he'll meet with, even if they don't have the cap. At that point, having Lin, maybe Novak on tap, Kidd - all in the 3-5 million range, that's a lot of trade chips for a sign-and-trade.

Chris Paul refused the 3yr 60 million cause he wants 5yr 108 million dollars. And only the home team can offer him that amount of money. He's staying with the Clippers.
I will say though that Knicks are still his top choice

Chris Paul isn't going anywhere, and the few amount of delusional Knick fans who post in here know that inside.

He's in a huge market playing for a deep playoff team, Sterling is finally actually trying to build a team, and they will offer him more money than any other team. All that team needs is a better coach and a wing defender and they will be the favorite to come out of the West.

What about this trade....

Knicks get: Chris Paul (s/t).

Sixers get: Amare Stoudemire.

Clippers get: Iman Shumpert, Andre Iguodala.

The only team that might not do it would be Philly (that contract....) but if Im the clippers I'd do this. They become one of the best defensive teams in the league (Bledsoe/Shump/Iggy) and have guys with smaller egos.

And CP3 can stop acting like a little ***** and finally be in NY.

Maybe throw some picks somewhere to even things out.

It's a pretty easy decision if it is between the Clippers and the Knicks to be honest. One team just got older and has some overrated players while the other has a bunch of young talent and they are only slightly overrated.

Amare and Lin for CP3 and a pick would be fitting for both teams

This is the third terrible trade suggestion I have seen in this thread. I understand your Knicks fans and naturally fans overrate their own players, I do it with the Sixers as well. But there is no way in **** the Clippers would ever ever ever do that trade. Stat (injury history, horrendous contract, no defense), Lin (way overrated albeit young PG who had a great 10 game stretch), and a late 1st round pick for the best PG in the NBA? GTFOH.

There are no more sign and trades after this season, at least that is what I remember. The only assets the Knicks have the could possible tempt LA is Melo and Shumpert for a mid-season deal.... that is it. Even then I don't trade him. NY will be in cap/luxury tax **** for the next few years so there is realistically zero chance this happens at all.

I've been wanting this guy in Gotham for the past 2 years. A lot can change/happen in a year, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

But I never doubt the power of friendships anymore between NBA superstars. CP3 and Carmelo have become quite close from touring China last summer during the lockout (for a Nike promotional tour,) and if Chris wants NY bad enough, he'll find a way to get over here.

I think it all depends on how the Clippers fare this year. A repeat performance of last year or if they do any worse (ie: 1st round loss,) than I don't think he'll stay around in LA for the long haul.

Cus stars really wanna be patient while these guys develop right? No he's now been a part of two teams with "great futures" and has yet to even make it to a conference finals. If Blake doesn't step up his d and get tougher on the boards this year, cp3 will be a knick. Blake griffin while prolly the most exciting player in the game rite now is IMO the most overrated and the series against San Antonio proved that. Nobody of his caliber should ever finish a game with 1 rebound. Old man Duncan strait embarrassed him that series and Blake's stats were padded in every one of them

I would have taken the extension if I was CP3. He has had injuries before and it took him a while to return back to form after that knee injury. If he has another injury this season that will destroy his market value and he will have a hard time find that kind of money.

But that said, I don't think there will be a contender with enough cap space to offer CP3 a deal like the Clippers would offer.
