Who do you think is the most untouchable player in the majors right now, trade-wise?

Alex Rios...

But seriously, Brett Lawrie...

This board has like some weird love affair with him.

Vernon Wells....nobody will touch him at $21,000,000 for 2 years after this one and he's on the bench primarily. ;)
On the good side I wouldn't move Harper, Strasburg, Trout, or Kershaw.

Albert Pujols, no one is going to touch that contract. But seriously, it's Harper and Trout.

apparently not pretty obvious to you.... the Red Sox would trade Ellsbury in a heartbeat for Trout if it were possible. Same for the Jays trading Bautista for Trout if they could, and with the pitching the Giants have, they'd almost definitley trade Cain for Trout too...

So basically, Mike Trout is the most untouchable.

but seriously, Alex Rodriguez. no GM in baseball except the Yankee's would even consider touching that contract.
Albert Pujols too.

Longoria's not going anywhere, IMO

WrightStuff82
07-07-2012, 08:35 PM
The correct answer is clearly..... Mike Trout.

Tampa would give up Longoria in a heartbeat for Trout. There's not a single player in the league or package of prospects I would give Mike Trout up for.

Fair enough, however, the same would apply to both Strausburg and Harper. I don't think they would trade those guys for anybody.

It's pretty much Trout and Harper. I don't think any pitcher is untouchable.

Also, some people in here are confusing untouchable with untradeable.

Matt Kemp, Mike Trout, Kershaw, and Harper are the only untouchables currently on a major league roster. Every other player would be traded in exchange for any of those 4. All under 25 all all-star level talent and all with the highest ceilings in baseball.

Kemp is the best player in baseball, Kershaw the most talented pitcher under 25, and Trout/Harper are Kemp in 3 years.

nostradamus84

Mike Trout. Been better than Harper with much less hype

odiz
07-08-2012, 01:01 AM
You could make a case that Trout is already the best player in baseball, hes only 20 years old, is going to get better, plays a premium position and still has 2 1/2 years before he even hits arbitration. I think hes clearly the most unthouchable player in baseball.

Mike Trout is my answer. Bryce Harper could be thrown in there. Along with Longoria and Tulowitzki. Those who say Votto don't understand that his contract is actually pretty difficult to trade right now. I'm sure there are a lot of GMs especially in smaller markets who wouldn't want to take on that contract. I don't think there is one guy in baseball who wouldn't want Mike Trout on their team.

Maybe our GM really is good, but we managed to move two of the worst contracts in baseball.
Alex Rios via waivers.
Vernon Wells via gun to the head of Angels' GM.

Harper and Strasburg don't have to worry about packing their bags anytime soon.
I really don't believe anyone is TRULY untouchable except for those two.

The original question kinda leaves it as an open ended question. If you're going on 1 player talent alone versus contract then it would have to be a rookie who is putting up enamoring numbers (trout) or a young player who hasn't yet hit his ceiling in play/payday that's when you get guys like stanton/strasburg/harper etc just to name a couple. You could make an arguement for proven players that have been in the league in which your fans would murder the owner for allowing to leave, such as Verlander/Kershaw/Bautista/Miggy/Weaver/Braun/McCutchen once again just examples there are definitely more. Also you have players like Hamilton who is just adored by Ranger fans and would never get traded, but could possibly leave in FA like a Pujols/Fielder. The better question would be Who in your teams farm would be untouchable, seeing as most trades for upper echelon players involve your future stars. For the Rangers Profar is absolutely untouchable. If you're untouchable to your team, then no one really stands out as who is more untouchable. Untouchable means untouchable period.

The answer is Trout, Strasburg, Harper and Kershaw.

If you called these teams inquiring about these players, you'd get hung up on, pretty much regardless of what you had to offer.

Guys like Kemp or Posey, great young players, but you don't think if the name Trout or Strasburg was on the other end they'd be gone in a second?

If you only can take one answer, it's Trout. I think the Dodgers or Nats give up any one of those guys in a one for one trade for Trout.

sexicano31
07-10-2012, 04:42 PM
So if the dodgers/angels were offered Price, Longo, Moore and Jennings for Kershaw/Trout they wouldn't even entertain the offer?

Price, Longo, Moore and Jennings for Trout or Kershaw is overpaying.

If the Angels or Dodgers didn't take that, they'd be stupid. You're filling four positions with very good regulars and Longo can be elite when healthy.

Kershaw could need Tommy John tomorrow or Mike Trout might have a sophomore slump next year. I know those guys are elite, but if you get that haul and turn it down? That would be ludacris.
