I know the NBA is all about business and I think it was AMAZING what LAL pulled off. I have nothing but props to them and wish them luck.

But I do have to say, as an avid NBA fan Nash was one of my favorite down to earth no bs players......and of all teams he wanted to end up in LA....the evil empire(enjoy that la fans).......just lost a few notches of respect from me. Thoughts?

Still love him, but yeah, I'm not going to like seeing him in that jersey, and am going to have to find a way to disconnect liking him from not liking his team.

Not really he would of made more money going to NY but he decided to go to LA because its very close to PHX and he has 3 kids here along with his ex-wife. He wants to be close to them or like Broussard would say "Nash told me: I want tobe close to my family and children."

This lineup is dangerous considering how good of passers Pau and Nash are.
With Kobe's scoring and Bynum's inside presence watch out...
Lets not forget about World Peace, he can knock a star player out for a series,
I repeat this lineup is DANGEROUS.

I don't know how you could lose respect for the guy. It's not like he demanded to go to the Lakers. It's not like he pulled a Dwight and said thats the only team I want to play for. He went to a team that will be a title competitor and it's the closest place to his family which is the main reason he decided to go there... So I will always be a Nash fan but I won't root for him on LA

justinb77

The only reason why he "bolted" for the Lakers was because he would be a lot closer to his family compared to Toronto or NYK. If it was about the money he would have went to Toronto. Either way, Nash is still a great player and it doesn't take anything away from him by joining LAL.

That's what NY fans told LAL fans about getting Nash too...weird.

Steve Nash can sign with whoever the **** he wants. He doesn't owe anybody anything. Guy played his heart out for the Suns. He is a winner. I don't care if he's never won a title, he's a winner. A ring will not validate him, he doesn't need to be validated.

I liked when Nash said after competing against the Lakers he couldn't see himself in a lakers uni. I'm also glad he decided to play here. The Lakers haven'thad a real PG since magic. The players I hate are the ones like juwan howard. Guys who don't take winning serious until wayy late in their career. I wanted Miami to cut him. Atleast with Nash you can say he played hard no matter the talent around him and just couldn't get it done (thanks to Robert Horry)This is one guy who deserves a shot before he hangs them up.

How can you hate Steve Nash? That's impossible to do if you are a human being.

He only picked the Lakers because they were the closest contending team to his family.

Truth. He is one of the good guys in a sport filled with chest pounding egomaniac millionaires.
As a Canadian I am- by default- a Raptors fan and his choice of employer is bitter sweet. While it would have been nice to see him raise the stature of the game back home in Canada I can say- as a Long time Suns Fan-I have already witnessed his dogged loyalty in carrying a bad team around on his wonky back. Sarver is a bonehead and Nash deserves to play for a franchise that is committed to putting their mouths and wallets in the same direction. Anyone who is accusing Nash of being a sell out or a ring chaser ala Payton/Malone is really just a hater. He has always displayed a strong sense of loyalty ( Cuban rejected him at contract time/ Sarver destroyed the Suns) and always honoured his contract like a good soldier. And if you listen to him speak you will realize he gives very intelligent and thoughtful answers.

I will always be a Suns and Raps fan but since both of these franchises are in lets be nice and say in a " transition " phase I will jump on the Lakers Bandwagon for the next 36 months. As long as they aren't playing my Suns/ Raps:D

StarvingKnick22

I hate how Kobe is so desperate for a 6th ring so he could talk about being like Jordan. This was the icing on the damn cake

Cal827
07-05-2012, 08:09 AM
Nothing against what he did, he had the right to go where he wanted.

If anything, I'm even more Pissed at BC for acting as if we already had acquired him... We should have freaking grabbed Lowry (and one of their picks) when we had the chance for the 8th pick... but noo... Colangelo planned for somebody who isn't here.... and then he freaking signed Fields to a bloated contract trying to block the Knicks.... Now we are going to have a log jam at the SG position (Ross, Fields, Derozan) where they all could get in the way of each other's growth. The "FIRE BC" threads should start forming in the Raps forum very soon. We passed up one of the best defensive PGs (who would thrive in Casey's defensive systems):facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Best of luck with Nash. Has always been a class act and there aren't many out there who deserve a ring as much as him (maybe Grant Hill, who might join that team anyways lol)

He continued to play in Phoenix despite Amare leaving and them having no shot to contend. Yet he was able to nearly put them in the playoffs. The man deserves to go where ever he wants.

And be honest. If he had gone to Miami people would have flipped. He went to LA.
Huge difference.

He was a free agent. He chose the team to which he would be signed and traded. It was most certainly his choice.

Whether that warrants hating him is a different issue altogether. But to suggest that he didn't choose the Lakers is absurd.

I don't understand what makes the Lakers (Not LA as a whole) the "evil empire".

I have not lost respect for Nash, I might have more respect for him because he decided that he wanted a better chance to win a championship and still had his family as a top priority.

I'm not crazy that Nash went to the Lakers, would have liked to see him with the Knicks, but hard not to respect his position.

He wanted 3 years, PHO wouldn't give it to him. And he STILL took a S&T so he didn't leave PHO high and dry.

He turned down MORE money from the Raptors AND the Knicks AND swallowed his pride over suiting up for the Lakers so he could be close to his kids.

So yah, I'm ticked he's not a Knick, but I understand it. And I can Respect it.

He didn't play us, he did what was best for his Family. Nash was being Nash, and that's a guy who tries to do the right thing.

khaleesi
07-05-2012, 09:17 AM
If he wanted to be close to his kids, he would have stayed in PHO.

That is BS from Nash frankly. People always use "the kids" as an excuse to do WTF.

He went to LA for the ring, and that is all good.

mlisica19
07-05-2012, 09:17 AM
Since when are the LA Lakers an evil empire? Their one of the greatest sport organizations in the world.

Nash served every franchise hes ever been with the same way they treated him and hes done everything hes can for the Phoenix Coyotes. He left the team trying to go for a ring, why because his times up. He wants to have a legit chance at Phoenix is not that chance.

Im sorry, did he leave Phoenix on a bad note? Will he have a rock concert to showcase him and Kobe and guarantee a ring? I want to see Nash win at least one, the guy deserves it.

LA close to PHO? LOL.

Phoenix is ALOT closer by air than Toronto or NY. Close enough he can hop a plane and see his kids any time he wants. Close enough his kids can see his home games. Close enough that it's easy for the kids to visit every weekend.

Big difference between being hopping a plane from PHO to LA and taking the red-eye every weekend.

LA is the evil empire because they have a well decorated history in one of the largest markets so they are able to throw absurd amounts of money (luxury tax be damned) at players and continually overvalue their players enough that they are able to trade **** teams continually. Plus the face of that franchise for the last 14 or so years is kind of a total d-bag. If I was from LA, I'm sure I would love that team, but unfortunately I am not. So for me they are in the category of the Cowboys and Yankees, meaning large market teams whose fan base has a majority of people with absolutely zero connection the hometown and only enjoy watching winning teams.

I really do love Steve Nash and wanted him to win a ring before he hangs them up. I will never root for Kobe to get his 6th though and have to hear Jordan comparisons. Nash chose LA for all the right reasons, but I just can't root for him anymore.

I respect the way Jerry Buss runs the team, but the Lakers with Kobe and Bynum are a pretty douchey organization. It's too bad Steve went there, but I WILL enjoy watching him and kobe co-exist. He's never played fully off the ball in his life, this will be an interesting experiment.

Not the coach to run this pirate ship though, which ultimately will be the reason they fail again this year (unless they get Dwight. They get Dwight, things get interesting in that area).

One of the more articulate, outspoken players in the game - and a consensus top ten point guard of all time (arguably the best shooter of all time to boot), and you never gave a ****? You're missing out. Nash is maybe the best representative for the sport of basketball in the last 25 years.

I'll still like Nash. Its unfortunate that he had to end up on one of the two teams that I hate, and I certainly can't root for his success anymore, but it was an understandable decision and he will still have played the vast majority of his career on teams other than the Lakers.

It does kind of suck that I have to root for one of my favorite players ever to not win a championship, though. I'd be quite disappointed if he contributed to a Lakers championship.

People love to hate the Lakers however and they want their fairytale dreams to come true. Maybe if he had gone back to the Mavs they'd have less of an issue with it. I'm not too worried. Sport isn't my whole life. Sure there are ways in which Nash is just like every other NBA player but the difference here is that he's doing it cooperatively with the Suns, trying to get at least something for them, he thanked Sarver profusely (even after Sarver is a pretty well known cheapskate of an owner), he's not pulling a Melo or a Howard. I don't like the way he played some of the other teams, and I'm not crazy about the ring chasing but it's his life. I was wrong about him, but not completely wrong. He's still a class act and he did do it differently than some of the biggest ******** players in the league. He didn't force a trade, he didn't cause chaos for a franchise like Melo and Howard, and he's going to be an important part but not dictating what his new team will be doing. He's a free agent and his team, the Suns, made it pretty clear they were moving on, so he did too. He wanted a place to play near his kids and this is the closest last time I checked a map. ;)

The Suns have been rebuilding for the last 4 years. Nash only has 2-3 good years left in him. He hasn't won a ring yet. He wanted to be on a team where he could be close to his kids.

I dont dislike him for going to LA, I dislike him for basically using Toronto to up his value to a contender from a vet min to a bigger deal, he had no intention of coming here yet said he did to fetch a huge offer from BC so he could say to a contender, you must come close to this offer...which would be fine if he wasnt from canada and Raps fans were not banking on him helping this team

How did he use them? They had the most money available and wanted him, so they offered a big contract. They other teams always wanted him to but bc they had to work trade scenarios did it behind closed doors. Then Nash took less money to play for La to try and win. In a day when most ppl are all about money and the payday. Nash showed he cares about winning

When did he say that he intended to come to Toronto?

he said he was considering them in multiple interviews ...which I think was a lie to leverage a bigger offer from other teams

which was probably true. if you were a free agent wouldnt you weigh your optinos ? in the end he chose the best scenerio for himself. how can we be mad at that bro ?

this is like the lebron thing almost. a guy chose the best situation for himself and ppl hate him for it. at least nash didnt go on cnn to anounce his decision. i think nash has every right to sign where ever he likes. the guy has paid his dues to this league. its incredible he can still play at the level he is playing at, at his age. let the man play where he wants. no need to turn on him. he was never on our team in the first place. did he consider our team ?? who knows, im sure he did as an option, but obviously the lakers are more apealing to him for various reasons.

he said he was considering them in multiple interviews ...which I think was a lie to leverage a bigger offer from other teams

Well maybe he was considering the Raps. Why wouldn't he. That doesn't mean that he had an agreement in place and then backed out of it. He had multiple teams interested in his services and in the end he picked the team/city that was the best fit for him and his family.

Im glad this happened, hopefully itll bring some of these people back to reality.

What happened to Nash is just the super coolest guy ever in the world and such and such and such?...Now he's in LA, a team he himself called his rivals. Why? because its a business, the lakers were the best for him and had the best offer the team.

No reason to hate. He played his greatest years in Phoenix. Now he's just at the end of his career looking for a championship. Steve Nash is the true definition of class. Wish every NBA was like him

Now how about Toronto?

How could you really hate on the guy.... It's a good option to win, and he gets to stay near his fam... It was a logical choice.

At least he ain't no prima Donna beotch demanding trades to one team and one team only.

Nash is an overrated old man, he is no match for the great athleticism of guards like Rose, Westbrook, Rondo etc.

If Nash going to LA has altered your opinion of Nash, I'd love to know why...He was no longer wanted by the Suns and decided to sign with a contender instead of Toronto...So you don't like Nash any more because he decided he wanted to play competitive basketball at the end of his career instead of floundering on a consistently terrible team...That makes a lot of sense...

hate motherf*ckers that start posting/rooting for a team RIGHT after "their" team wins it all... if you are a bandwagon fan, why do you care so much? what do you have invested with the heat outside of the playoff games you've watched?

does anyone else remember when this troll posted 400 times in a span of a week, claiming the heat's greatness? what a f*cking troll. STAY IN THE HEAT FORUM.

AT LEAST, let the real heat fans represent the heat. THIS IS NOT HATE FOR THE HEAT, IT IS HATE FOR YOU GLEN20.

Nash is a hard guy to hate. I was always a Kidd supporter when the Nash vs Kidd threads popped up but that doesn't mean Nash wasn't good. He's a good player and a likable person.

And no I don't like the Lakers.

Nash has been loyal to a fault, which you almost never see anymore, and he still got them something in return, which he didnt need to.

He deserves a shot, and although not much better, its still a lot better than him going to the Heat.

Not true. I've been a Sun's fan for 20 yrs n I hated Nash when he was in Dallas n I hate him now cuz he's a laker. I'm a Sun's fan n only root for the players in a Sun's uniform

All u Nash homers make me sick. u guys wanna c Nash win a title before your own team. pathetic. We don't owe Nash anything. he already got paid. when lakers come into town I wanna c dragic lay Nash on his butt. This is what supporting your own team is about n if u can't understand that then maybe u guys haven't followed the NBA.

There are some bitter mfers in this thread.. Dude made a great move for the end of his career.

The people who lost respect are immature children, you knew this was coming and you're lucky he stayed on your terribly put together team this long.

he gets to stay close to family, gets paid a good amount, team is a contender and his old Josh Childress wielding team got 4 draft picks.
