If Mike Woodson's slow, grind it out style system doesn't work out what coach do you guys think would best fit this group?

Steve Nash is a good coach

The guy that they fired before hiring Mike Woodson full time.

And I think you forgot a guy by the name of "Melo" in your thread. And Lin won't be back, he's going to Houston.

Good thread. They need a coach that can really make these guys work. has to be jerry sloan, especially with his pick and roll, flex offense.

Having woodson as coach of this team is like having a young kid drive a race car. He can do it but he wont get the most out of it.

melo already quit on him once.

...I'm gonna stick with Woodson. He still uses D'antoni plays, It's not like he has implemented his own style. He isn't going to change the style that got him the 18-6 record as head coach.

Why is there so many threads about this team?

D'Antoni... and if Carmelo can't adapt, they might be better off with Iguodala in a Marion role.

Evolution23

hey remember when D'antoni wasn't known for his defense? I guess since he left the Knicks he is now improved his D the Larry Brown level.

maybe they can get dantoni back at the vet minimum.

Mike Woodson had one of the top offensive efficiencies in Atlanata but lets overlook that. Knicks had some huge offensive games when he was the coach but when you lose Lin and Amare and Mike Bibby is your starting PG you have to grind games out.

People generalize things way to much in sports.

phil jackson has already said he wants no part.
"They don't fit together well. (Amare) Stoudemire doesn't fit well with Carmelo (Anthony)," said Jackson, when asked to expand on "clumsy."

Woodson has signed a three year contract, so if we're talking fairy tale coaches. what your problem.

If thats who you think would do the best job by all means. The guy actually came out and said it wouldn't work tho kind of defeats the purpose of putting those guys in the best system. Especially when PG is the least valuable position in the triangle.

JasonJohnHorn

Woodson did a great job in Atlanta. that team improved every year under Woodson, and the Knicks' record while Woodson was in charge was pretty good, even better considering the fact that he had so many guys out with injury. Woodson is as good a coach as just about anybody. Don't see a reason to swap him out. Besides, I'm sure he knows enough to let Nash run the pick-and-roll with Amare the way he likes to.

There is no scenario where new york gets both Nash and Lin, so the premise is flawed

Phil Jackson, but Melo would have to be traded first. That type of player at his age that sometimes gives you his all, sometimes doesn't, holds onto the ball and dribbles, Phil already said how that's what he hated about Jordan and at his age right now, this is a problem he wouldn't need.

Lin is being offered $5 million more than what the Knicks were gonna offer. Knicks said they were gonna let the market determine the price...just in case they could offer less than 4yrs/$25. Seems they'll have to pay $5 million more.

That's not some bad, horrible thing to overpay by $5 million.

Knicks wanted a 3 year contract for $4 million, but were prepared ot offer the max of 4/25. They'll pay 4/30 IF they don't get Nash and Kidd for the PG positions.

Knicks will match the offer they have already let that be known unless you have some inside sources we don't know about (:

Anyways On topic: IDK I was wondering the same thing about Woodson. Maybe they could borrow some D'antoni/Gentry plays to run between Nash and Amare. It'll be interesting I also want to see if Woodson will bring in a offensive guy as an assistant

I like Woodson I really do. He won over us Knick fans last season with the way he was able to get this team to play when it seemed like our season was lost. Now like others have said, he does implement a lot of D'antoni plays and that would continue to work with this proposed line up. However there are certainly other coaches that I would rather have.

I think SVG would have been awesome as well as Sloan. I know these were never viable options, but in an ideal world both choices would have made me very happy.

Yep. I would have liked SVG to, but I guess we're stuck with Woodson. Rather have him than Avery Johnson though.

despite the fact that Sloan bumped heads with D-Will in Utah I think he would stil command the respect of players on that roster. The way Melo plays basketball (dominating the ball until the shot clock is down to 3 sec!) I think he could fit into the half court offense that Utah played under Sloan. Amar'e (probably Nash soon) and Lin running pick and rolls with Melo on the weak side for instant offense would be solid. Not to mention Tyson Chandler could be a solid piece on both ends under Sloan. Add JR Smith spreading out the floor it could be very fun to watch if they listen. I'd try to get Sloan over anyone else. If that fails just get Stan Van and move on.
