View Full Version : Do the Mavs need to trade Dirk?

So they are 1 year removed NBA champions and this team looks nothing like that squad that won it all.

In the past year they lost:
Chandler
Barea
Odom
Kidd
Terry
Brewer
Stevenson

They have no shot at:
Deron
Eric Gordon
Hibbert
Batum
Nash
basically any respectable FA that could make them competitive

They have pipe dreams of CP3 and Howard next summer but thats a LOOOONG SHOT to say the least.

They are screwed and with just Dirk and the trash around him they will never be bad enough to get a good lottery pick or good enough to be anything more than an 8th seed at best. Time to deal the man and pull the plug on the Dirk-era.

Dirk has 2 years left I believe. The only way you trade him is at his request. He won you a title. If Dirk wants to stay in Dallas you let him stay and thank him in 2 years when you start your rebuild.

I think if.they.can get a player.of humps caliber...you pull the trigger every time.

If you can deal him for two good young pieces tho I think you do it. Look at what freaking Stern got for CP3. I think Cuban can get at least that for Dirk.

Yeah and if Dirk doesn't like what he sees, he will just invoke his No Trade Clause and the trade falls apart. They can't trade Nowitzki unless he agrees to the Trade.

I doubt Cuban is going to send Dirk to a situation that doesn't have him in a position to at least contend for a championship.

No way this happens. Cuban isn't just going to give up and start over. There is still a chance they can add some good pieces but no matter how unlikely it is they get Dwight or CP3, you can't stop now since the roster was broken up for this chance at top free agents.

It's like bluffing at poker and then as soon as someone calls you, you just fold. It's either all in or broke.

They couldn't even get Deron and he is from Dallas. I think you look at a team like the Nuggets or the Hornets. Trading your superstar for a bunch of young guys is a heck of alot of better than adding dead weight contracts around an aging superstar.

Trade Dirk for Amare, then go sign Nash. Problem solved. :)
