Reds prospect Billy Hamilton just stole his 100th bag. No that isn't a typo he has stolen 100 bases already.

I don't care that it is single A, that is insane. He has 104 hits. Sure he gets on base other ways but still he is stealing a base almost every 4 times he is on base.

I went to a minor league game in which he was playing earlier this year and he stole 5 bases in a game.

It's crazy how fast he is, he might be the fastest guy in professional baseball right now even considering he's still only in Single A.

Maybe once Hamilton gets to the bigs and shows he can get on base.

With speed like that, all he has to do is put in play. His contact rate is decent enough.

This guy is a slam dunk to be the next Vince Coleman. I would put him in center field.

I've been following this kid and he has just been a beast. He has no fear whatsoever! Can't wait to see him promoted!

last year he didn't do too good offensively so i think that's why the Reds are hesitant to call him up to Double A now. but i thought they were going to let Phillips go after this year and then call up Hamilton early, but since Phillips signed a 6 year extension, and our SS is playing good, i would suspect the Reds would move him to CF

I hope the Reds will call him up in September to use him as a pinch runner. Should be fun

Several successful bases stolen on pitch-outs too.

He is crazy fast. But his obp is up which is a major reason why the improvement.

If he can keep the obp up, we might actually see our first 100 steal guys in baseball since Coleman

Something I always wondered. Why don't a baseball team offer one of these 100m sub-10.00s Olympic guys and put him on the 25 man roster for a late-game pinch runner in tight games. They can't be making THAT much running. $500k-$1m to be a part time baseball player is a pretty sweet gig. Tie game, get the leadoff guy on and put him in and you're on 3rd with no outs. He would dramatically increase your win probability with him on first base vs your average player in a tie game. I think it would be worth the $ and roster spot.

Just because you are fast does not mean you can steal bases successfully.

Although, the novelty idea isn't bad. And you could probably train one of them, and hopefully teach them enough about defense that they could at least be an outfielder if necessary in late game situations.

But it would such to use one of your 3-5 bench guys as a runner only also. Because they probably can't hit/throw/ do anything else on a baseball field that would make it worth carrying them.

I can see it maybe hurting throughout a 162 game season.. but maybe stash him late August before the rosters expand so he can be on the playoff roster.. He may prove useful.

I don't think it'll be that tough to teach them how to steal. These world class sprinters can be taught techniques. I think they'd pick it up pretty quick.

most of those olympic runners wouldn't sign that though. They would not risk the injury (which with the sudden stops is highly possible/likely they could tear their ACL/MCL/hammy). If they have an injury like that their career is over pretty much.

He has gone from 1st to 3rd on singles to leftfield. That is some kind of fast. If he can even be a passable hitter, he will be a one of a kind weapon.
