How about Jarrod Parker one of the prospects Billy Beane got from the Dbacks in the trade for Trevor Cahill.
All these coming from twitter.
Via twitter: Jarrod Parker has a 1.34 ERA vs American League teams. Lowest among all pitchers with at least 9 starts (2nd - Chris Sale:2.32) #Athletics
Via Twitter: Parker is 1st pitcher to allow 1 run or less in 10 of his 1st 14 career starts since: Ferdie Schupp of NY Giants (1913-17) #Athletics
Thats real impressive for a rookie. I can only remembering him having 2 bad start against the Giants and Dbacks. Other then thats he's been awesome.

His stats are 5-3 2.46 ERA 80.1 IP Opponent batting average of .209 and 1.22 whip. I would say those are good for rookie of the year consideration but Mike Trout is in the AL and he has it locked up.

Jeffy25
07-03-2012, 03:09 AM
Yeah, all Parker has to do is limit the walks and he will be amazing.

I'd like to see the dodgers and giants continue to battle for first place. that division was one-sided for too long. i love underdogs (outside of the AL east) so i'm rooting for the pirates to have another decent month. the nationals pitch too well for the other teams to catch up, but who knows? maybe the mets might continue to surprise everyone or maybe a trade might change the dynamic of the division.

The tigers have a shot if they have a decent month. The White sox and Indians have not broken away from the pack, but I do think the white sox have a better shot. The orioles are still there, but I don't think for long. they play quite a few good teams the rest of the month. the rays have the best shot since they seem to know how to win even amidst their injuries. the red sox can become a threat again if their returning players play to their baseball cards (so far the replacements have overachieved which is why they are above .500). The rangers seem too good despite their injury woes so unless something huge happens I see them continuing their run. the angels are turning things around so we'll see (i predict they take the first WC spot)

Pirates keep finding ways to win. Sutton hits his first homer of the season in walkoff fashion.

The second half is going to be a fun one for the NL central.

I don't know how great Quintana is going to be moving forward, but he is new to the Sox this year.

I'm aware of that. But the Sox continue to get production out of their minor leagues every year.
It doesn't matter if you get that from your draft picks or shrewd waiver wire pickups. There aren't any style points for that. De Aza, Quintana, Viciedo(although he is struggling right now), Sale and basically the entire bullpen are first year starters at the big league level and have been a big reason why the Sox are leading the AL Central.

Nope, closest is Rickey Henderson in 1990, 28 home runs and 65 stolen bases and Henderson in 1986, 28 home runs and 87 stolen bases.

6 times, someone has hit 20 home runs and stolen 60 bases, Henderson did it three times, Eric Davis once, and Joe Morgan twice.

And twice, someone has hit 30 home runs and stolen 50 bases.
Eric Davis in 87, 37 home runs and 50 stolen bases
Bonds in 90, 33 home runs and 52 stolen bases.

Just wanted to say, to all the people who think Braun was on something etc, look at what he is doing right now:

2012: .312 AVG, .399 OBP, .615 SLG, 1.014 OPS, 26 HR, 64 RBI, 16 SB: 4.8 WAR
2011: .332 AVG, .397 OBP, .597 SLG, .994 OPS, 33 HR, 111 RBI, 33 SB: 7.8 WAR
2010: .304 AVG, .365 OBP, .501 SLG, .866 OPS, 25 HR, 103 RBI, 14 SB: 4.4 WAR

He already has more HR's this year than he did in all of 2010 and he is only 7 back from last year's pace. OBP/SLG/OPS are all higher than last year.

.BABIP is at .320 last year it was .350.

UZR:

2010: -10.2
2011: -3.8
2012: + 2.0

Getting better defensively each season as well.

Personally - I think roiding doesn't do as much for someone as most people seem to think.

But he clearly tested positive for a banned substance. And he got away with it because of a technicality. I don't personally care that much because using a PED doesn't bother me like it does most sports fans.

Either way, Braun has been remarkably consistent, and is heading for Cooperstown even though I can't stand his giant bug eyes

lol yesteday he said the Rockies were still in the hunt for a playoff spot

He just shared his ideal lineup for the Red Sox

1. Crawford
2. Pedroia
3. Ellsbury
4. Gonzalez
5. Ortiz
6. Ross
7. Salty
8. Middlebrooks
9. Don't remember, doesn't matter

He starts off with saying

'I want Crawford to leadoff because of the speed' (he should know better)
'and because I don't want lefty and then another lefty so I threw Pedroia in there to split Crawford and Ellsbury up because I don't want the other teams bullpen to use a lefty and mow my guys down'

Alright, that's sound logic, and that is a good thing to be aware of when setting up your lineup.

And then 3-4-and-5 are all lefties

He has the baseball acumen of a teenager.

Since May 24th:

McCutchen: .378/.435/.698/1.133, 22 HR/60 RBI, 10 SB

Cabrera: .348/.412/.637/1.049, 13 HR/42 RBI
Trout: .373/.420/.627/1.047, 11 HR/35 RBI, 25 SB
Pujols: .331/.416/.613/1.029, 12 HR/35 RBI

Pretty damn even for the latter 3, other than the SB for Trout. Holy crap though, for as good as the latter 3 have been since then McCutchen has been RIDICULOUS.

Trout has a .413 babip

Nobody has finished a season with a babip that high since Rogers Horsnby in 1924, and it would be the 4th and 8th highest ever to a season.

Even being over a .400 is rare, it's only been doing 4 times since 1924.

Nobody said anything about career, I'm talking about right now. Ichiro was able to put up 3 seasons over .370 BABIP, despite ridiculously low K and BB rates that probably aren't conducive to high a high BABIP, as well as another .369. Abreu had two seasons over .390. Kemp put up a .380, and a .411 in a bit under 100 games. Jeter's put up 5 seasons over .370. It's not all that rare to see a .370+ BABIP for a single season, or even for a couple of seasons, especially from guys with Trout and McCutchen's combination of speed, high line drive rates, and low fly ball rates.

fwiw, it has nothing to do with your K, BB rates, and HR rate.

It literally is your batting average on balls in play, the balls that you hit into play, how often are they hits.

Ground ball hitters usually have higher babip's than fly ball hitters, and speed players usually (guys like Ichiro who slap and run) are the best.

Also, guys like Matt Holliday will always carry a high babip because of the velocity off their bats. Allowing more balls to get through when you always swing hard and never check swing (Matt Holliday's personal rule, swing hard in case you hit the ball).

.370's are certainly doo-able. But .400's very very rarely happen.

I'm aware of what it is. I would think that if you're putting more balls in play that are out of the strike zone (if you're not walking and you're not striking out, you're likely doing that to some extent) and if you're hitting pitches that are strikes, but out of your wheelhouse (which, again, you're likely to do if you have a low K-rate), you'll have a lower BABIP. I honestly just don't feel like doing the research right now, but IIRC there's a positive correlation between strikeout rate and BABIP.

D'Backs are looking like a solid team still

They've had a pretty soft schedule so far (or at least as NL West teams go). NL West wise, the Giants have played by far the toughest schedule and should win the division (especially if you look at the Dodgers September schedule).

IMO, Arizona is lacking something attitude wise from last year. Second half of the year you could just tell they knew they would win most of those games. They had a great "swagger" and killer instinct.

Jeffy, before you hit me with the run differential (currently +26), they've had +25 over the last 6 games vs the Rockies and Astros, they've been the definition of mediocre up until this week.

Gary Cohen just said something which I somehow hadn't heard about until now. This is my new favorite baseball story. Justin Upton and B.J. Upton both have 99 home runs.

This is awesome for two reasons. One is obviously that the two brothers are essentially racing to 100 homers. The other, and the reason I rally love this, is that I remember dominating with B.J. Upton way back in MVP Baseball 2005, before it was sadly discovered that he had absolutely no chance of playing SS in the MLB and the Rays needed to spend two years finding him a position. If you told me after his 2004 debut that B.J. Upton would only have 5 homers through 2006, I would have thought you were completely insane. Justin only had 2 through 2007 (in 43 games), had a bad 2010, and hasn't been too great this year, yet he still has as many homers as his brother.

Matt Holliday has hit .351/.442/.612

Too bad his April sucked, he has been the best hitter in baseball since May 1st, even better than Trout

Since trading Ichiro this M's team has been much better although that could be due to the horrible pitching we are facing.
