I think Plouffe tops the list.. no one, not even scouts saw this from him... What say you?

Vogelsong and Melky. I didn't think Vogelsong would pull a repeat of last year after being terrible his entire baseball career and Melky for just...well, making it a habit to stay above .350/.360 for the year in batting average.

Carlos Ruiz hitting .358, i would never had thought he would have been this good.

Cody Ross 12 homers 39 rbis in 50 games with all those injuries in Boston he and Middlebrooks have saved that team.

Edwin Encarnacion always had decent power but hitting after J-Bau he already has 22 homers this year.

AJ Pierzynski never hit more then 18hrs, with 14 so far.

Allen Craig easily making Pujols forgotten so far this season, 11 homers in 39 games hitting .311

No one expected trumbo to be this productive I thought he was going to have power numbers but not overall hitting numbers the guy is an MVP candidate

I wouldn't say unexpected but Goldschmidt is having a great first half .300 avg 11home runs.

Dexter Fowler a career .260 batter is hitting .300 with power 11hrs also Tyler Colvin a career .230 batter is hitting .305 with 13 homers.

Craig was pretty good last year as well, so this year isn't that surprising. I would say Freese has been more surprising than Craig.

Sticking with teams I know...

AJ Burnett: I was on the fence about the trade, but ultimately convinced myself I liked it because it was essentially nothing but a money deal. He's been great. Seemed like most thought it was a stupid move for Pittsburgh...it's proving to be one of the single best IMO.

McDonald: Figured he had room for improvement, but he's been tremendous this year. It's not a fluke either. He's this good.

Saltalamacchia: He wasn't bad at all last year, in fact, he was pretty solid. But he's been great this season, and I really didn't expect it.

Other randoms...

Ruiz: He went from being a really good catcher to an absolutely elite offensive player.

Reddick: Didn't think he'd be this great, at least not this soon.

Jason Hammel: Didn't expect him to be half this good, not in the AL East...

Surprisingly bad seasons....

Lincecum (obviously), Dan Haren, Buchholz, Ervin Santana, Adrian Gonzalez, Cameron Maybin, Rickie Weeks, Michael Young and a million more...

Sadly Santana minus the last 2 seasons, has one bad then one good one. He went from 16 wins in 06' to minor leagues in 07' to all star in 08' to bullpen some parts of 09'. If he an Haren who's injured still struggle the Angels need to trade for a rotation 3rd starter.

Some obscure rookie called Mike Trout is playing pretty well. Anyone heard of him?

Ruben Tejada, batting .325, superb defense to mix in this aswell. replacing Reyes pretty well. Only 22 years old..

McDonald - Good arm so I buy his breakout.

Encarnacion - Strong year by an otherwise decent bat.

Tejada - Liked him last year some with his D and solid BA/OBP/strong approach. Probably not this good, but a good looking young player.

Reddick
AJ Ellis - 5th in OBP in the NL? Whaaaa.
Fowler - Looks nasty with a .547 SLG.

His home ISO is an insane .310 but his his road ISO of .171 is still pretty legit.

Trumbo? Trying to throw a new name out there... he's a huge power guy so not surprised about the HR but i can't say that i expected an average north of .300

Adam Dunn -his power is way back and he looks like a candidate for AL Comeback Player. After a year he had in 2011 everyone wrote this guy off and look at him now...

Bobby Abreu - After being cut from the Angels looked like his days were # but gesta proving he has something left and can be productive.

Also the entire Pirate team

Josh Reddick. Hes been awesome. 20 homers at the break. Doubt anyone expected that from him. Hes been a great pick up by Billy Beane in the Bailey deal. He should have been an allstar got the walkoff double today.
