Toronto calling in all the favors they can on this one

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine

As if video plea from Steve Nash hero Wayne Gretzky isn't enough I'm told Raps have Gretz lined up to call in during Sunday sitdown w/Nash

The Raptors will be pulling out all the stops. According to a source, Colangelo and the Raptors' party will present a video to Nash that includes a cameo by Wayne Gretzky, urging Nash to seize the chance to come back to Canada and do for basketball here what he did for hockey in Los Angeles when he went to play for the Kings in 1988. http://www.sportsnet.ca/basketball/2012/06/30/grange_toronto_raptors_steve_nash_move_feels_right/

Nash
Ross
Derozan
Bargs
Valucinas

Is nice!!! Nash could make them a playoff team

Wizards and Raps would make 7 & 8 seeds and replace Magic and 76ers

Congrats to Toronto.

I guess Steve Nash can now happily join the ringless group of Elgin Baylor, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing and Reggie Miller.

He gets to go home and get paid very well for it. I can't blame him, I just figured he'd prefer a ring

He should get a night with Paulina Gretzky as his signing bonus.

I don't know if BC can swing it though.

As free agency opens here in the NBA, the center of attention—or should we say centre?—is Suns point guard Steve Nash, who is getting an awful lot of attention for a 38-year-old guy with 15 years of NBA traction on him. The epicenter of that attention: Toronto, where the Raptors are building out a plan for Nash that not only includes multiple years as a player, but a post-retirement agenda, too, a source told Sporting News.

The Raptors are one of the few teams in position to sign Nash to a multi-year deal at something more than the mid-level exception. Toronto comes into the offseason with cap space, but could potentially create more by using the amnesty clause on veteran point guard Jose Calderon. A source says that Toronto will be willing to give Nash a short deal, with team options, in the range of $10-$14 million per year. http://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2012-07-01/nba-free-agency-steve-nash-post-career-toronto-raptors-phoenix-suns

Sick of this BS attitude like your career is useless unless you won a championship. Nash has a chance to do something far greater than taking a lesser role and piggybacking his way to a championship with a stacked team.

The thing is, he's not even from Toronto. He's from the other side of the country in Victoria, British Columbia.

Think the difference between NYC and Montana.

It's not the same thing. The raptors are the only team in Canada, and thus, are Canada's basketball team. Raptor fans can be found all across Canada, not just Toronto. So, even though Steve isn't from Toronto, he'd still be coming home to Canada's only basketball team, which may have sentimental value to him.

Going to a contender for less money isn't guaranteed. On a ok team he gets that big pay check he wants because after this deal he's going to retire. So I guess if he does sign with Toronto then he's also doing it for financial security. Even though he has money it's always good to leave a job with a large pay check.

honestly, all of you should realize, nash going to a cntender doesnt nessasarly mean they'll win a ring. The only team who gets nash that would compeat for a ring would be miami, who wnt be able t osign him for more than a bag of chips.
