@SBerthiaumeESPN: BREAKING: that's 2 homers for #Padres Yasmani Grandal tonight. His first 2 career MLB hits are home runs, 1 from each side of plate.

That's some good luck

That's really cool actually, especially the both sides of the plate thing.

Has that ever been done before?

I very highly doubt that. I'm almost sure it hasn't.

Homeruns from both sides of the plate has been done, if that's what you're asking. Rob Bowen did it.. That's the only one I know of. I'm sure Tex has too.

I think he meant first 2 hits being home runs from both sides of the plate. Home runs on both sides of the plate has happened tons of times: Berkman, Texiera, Chipper Jones, Carlos Beltran, Jimmy Rollins, Rafael Furcal, Jose Reyes etc. and that's just active players. Mickey Mantle did it more than 5 times. Not that big of an accomplishment really.

I thought so..

I highly doubt it has happened, as well.

This is going to be a good trivia question in the future. Either first 2 hits were a HR or first 2 hits were HR's from both sides of the plate.

Is he a good prospect? I could use a new catcher on the fantasy team...

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, no player has had his first 2 hits of his career be home runs from both sides of the plate.

So that's pretty impressive to do something in MLB that's never been done before.

I still laugh at that trade, although the Reds had excess depth, i don't know how they gave up Alonso, Grandal, Volquez and Boxberger for just Latos.

He hasn't been great this year but he has upside and remember he's only played less than a full season of major league games.

I still think the Padres long term will have gotten the better of that deal.

Has that ever been done before?

More than 80 times actually.

And a large number of players have done it on the first two pitches they ever saw.

As far as both sides of the plate for first two base hits being home runs.....not entirely sure.

I think there is only 1 guy in the HOF that has hit a HR in his first at bat. Now we have a chance at a second guy! lol

Yeah thats a given, I never personally believed Latos would command that type of players in return So I understand the Padres Reasoning in accepting it ..but now seeing the Players everyday, I still would have accepted the Trade Had Alonso not been Included ...i do not see the logic that Alonso is a better Prospect than Rizzo  ...eh something that us padres fans are use too I guess

To be fair to the Reds, they had a better prospect at Catcher and were on the verge of locking Votto up at 1B (By all accounts Alonso wasn't good enough in the OF). Volquez ran his his course in Cincy. If they can maxamize Latos talents then I believe they win this trade because he is the best player involved. He is a head case tho, so that may be easier said then done.

Yasmani Grandal hit a two-run pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning that propelled the San Diego Padres to an 8-6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday night and their first ever three-game sweep in Phoenix.

Grandal has now homered in four of his six hits and was the seventh player since 1900 to homer in his first three hits. He hit David Hernandez's pitch just over the right field fence. Justin Upton made a leaping try for the catch but the ball bounced off his glove.
