@AlexKennedyNBA: Jameer Nelson has opted out of his contract with the Orlando Magic. He'll become an unrestricted free agent. @Brian Schmitz broke the news.

Who will pick him up?

Why are all these guys opting out after bad seasons. Their values are at an all time low.

As expected.

I still think he could stay...it depends on where the Magic wanna go from here. We're worse without him, but if we're entering a post-Dwight era, might as well let him be the first domino.

He'd be an amazing fit in LAL. Match made in heaven....

Why do people always associate "opting out" with "leaving their current team"? Like Deron and a million people before him, this doesn't mean he is leaving or even that he wants to leave. Just means he probably wants a longer contract.

I mean, maybe he does want to leave...but who knows.

He isnt old so I think he can bounce back. He isnt great but he is a soild pg, Not more then 8 million but Maybe he can get a 3 year contract, I think Nelson doesnt want to be in orlando. Wasnt there a report that said he was opting out so he can control where he goes?

Kudos to him for jumping off the Orlando Titanic.

Doesn't even mean he will be leaving for sure. He just wants some security, he knew he would have been trade bait going in on his last year (8M) contract. This prevents him from being traded to a team he may not want to go to.

RLundi
06-29-2012, 10:32 PM
do you have difficulties reading? i said thats what he will be looking for, not what he will get.

Let's logically put this into perspective for a moment: After his worst statistical season since 2006, you legitimately believe that Nelson opted out of $8M because he's looking for a contract starting at $10M for 4 seasons?

Ludicrousness considered, you'll understand why I thought you were making a bad funny.

You already mentioned this, but i agree that he would be a great fit for the Lakers. Gives them that extra scoring they can use and Kobe can do most of the facilitating.

To Nelsons credit, he never did have a legit SG with him during his time on the Magic. Best might be J-Rich, but his numbers went down after coming from PHX.

Kidd definitely was not better. He was essentially a liability last season, and he's not getting any younger. I don't think there is an argument that exists that will convince me that he was a better player last year...

Billups is a toss-up. He's coming off a MAJOR injury too.

Dragic and Nash maybe, probably actually. Nash is just so old now. He's got a year or two left. Deron definitely.

I stand by what I said. If anything, 4th best...

Jameer is my favorite player in the NBA. I'm fine with him leaving, because it might be the best for him. I think LAL is the best fit for him (he can shoot and he can break down a defense), but I don't know if I could ever root for him in the P&G. We'll see.

He had a down year (came around at the end), but he was still better than Watson and Brooks...by a good margin actually. I'd love to hear and argument as to how he wasn't better than both. Miller and Nelson had pretty equal years. Miller is the better passer, Nelson is the much better scorer. Miller is also 36, that matters. Hill is a SG in most systems...

2008-2009 was an outlier. He was having an abnormally good season before he got injured, but I never realistically expected that to continue or for him to ever duplicate it. Besides that, he's been around 45% from the field in his career; he just had a HORRIBLE start to last season. Trade rumors, Dwight's situation, constant uncertainty and rumors- maybe these all took a toll, who knows? But Nelson is a good point guard that will give you 13 points, 5 assists, 45% FG and almost 40% 3-pt FG when he's right.

Id take Brooks over Nelson. He's a better scorer, just as good at passing, just as good a shooter, and both suck on D. Even at 36 i'd still take Miller over Nelson. Also theres Jeremy Lin, he's definitely better than Jameer.

Nelson is 36th in PER amongst PGs this season, 31st in WS, 29th in TS%. Now those are the stats, but just by looking at the list of PGs I can see 25 PGs I would definitely take over Nelson. He isn't that good, he was never that good. The MLE is the absolute max I would pay for him.

He was that good. When he was an all-star he was the second best PG in the NBA that time. Injuries have dogged him, including last year.
