All from Howard Beck's Twitter

Settlement reached in Bird-right case, parties announce. Lin and Novak keep their Bird rights.

Lin and Novak will be "early-Bird" free agents, as arbitrator had ruled. Billups and Hickson get full bird rights.

Under settlement between NBA and union, players claimed on waivers will continue to keep early-Bird rights as if they had been traded.But...

From now on, full Bird rights will only be retained if player is claimed on waivers through amnesty procedure.

players picked up through waivers got bird rights and early bird rights this one time only...from now on bird rights will only be retained by those players picked up through amnesty waivers...per howard beck

Good news for sure. Didn't think the decision would be overturned, but the risk was lost time in free agency. Now that that fear has been invalidated, the Knicks have some room to operate.

Good for the Knicks. I'm not even mad. It'd be nice to have them as a powerhouse again instead of a team just so poorly put together.

Hopefully this is the start.

I said weeks ago in the Knicks forum that I'd be fine with the union using Lin as a sacrifice to get future players their early Bird rights, so obviously this is even better. This just had to get done. Theirs no reason that I could think of that a waived player would lose their early Bird rights. I would prefer players with full Bird rights keep them too, but it's an understandable concession for the players to make, early Bird cases are probably more common anyway.

Wouldn't call a 7th seed team who won 1 playoff game in 2 years a powerhouse

But at least Web don't have to hear about magical Cp3, Lebron and dwight scenarios every day anymore

Nets were rumored to be making a lot of moves at the draft... including buying 1st round picks.... knicks had the 48th pick and no cash or trade pieces and still made a different teams (even if it isnt anymore) arena theirs. you are either a little kid (a srupid one but a little kid nonetheless) or a moron if you truly believe the Nets will take over the NY fanbase or the media...

NY would lose the FULL MLE if they resign all their guys, but they still have the tax payer MLE of $3m.

Now, if they decide to not sign a few guys they could use the $5m MLE, but they are probably better off bringing back all their players and using the $3m MLE & Bi annual.

And no they can't just use the FULL MLE first and then resign everyone, if they use the FULL MLE that would trigger a hard cap of $74m.

howard beck

Lose MLE or get it down to the 3 million mle.

We had two options:

Option 1
5 million MLE to re-sign Lin (or get Nash/Kidd/Allen) and Smith

Option2
Re-Sign Lin, Novak, and Smith AND have 3 million MLE to get Nash/Kidd/Allen

Which would you pick? Without the 5 million, we won't have enough to sign Nash, so that sucks about option 2....but at the same time, now we can get Lin AND Novak back while still having 3 million to spend. 5 million for Lin or Nash or Lin, Novak, and another player (at 3 million).

Option 2 is the clear winner in the end.

What the hell? Why is there a trollfest everytime Knick and Net fans are on the same thread? It's idiotic.

$5m isn't getting Nash, PHO reportedly is offering $10m per, and TOR $12m per. And Nash has already stated money will be a big factor.

Only way NY gets Nash is if they S&T Lin and filler to PHO. That would allow NY to pay Nash around $8 -10m per and keep their MLE. This is not out of the question if you ask me, Lin loves the SSOL offense and PHO still runs it. And PHO has said they are willing to S&T Nash where he wants to go since he's been so good to their franchise.

If I'm NY I would do it, Nash still has alot left, and they would still have the MLE to go get another good player like a Ray Allen.
