View Full Version : Best Rotation and Lineup You Can Compile..

Strategic wise, trying to get a bunch of guys that are going to drive in runs for you in the spots they are put in, power hitters, contact hitters, speed guys, etc. Who do you have in your lineup?

For your rotation, do you go one lefty? Maybe two? Or do you want a lefty-heavy rotation and put three in there?

If you had to make a lineup and a rotation of any players in the league, who would you choose?

Yea I'm a Braves fan and no way Heyward and Uggla should be mentioned right now. Heyward has the talent but no ready to be named the best RF just yet. Bourn and McCann are possibles with Kimbrel being the only sure fire one.

Catcher - Molina/McCann
First Base - Votto/Pujols
Second Base - Cano/Kinsler/Zobrist
Third Base - Longoria/Miggy
Shortstop - Tulo/J. Reyes
Outfield - Bautista/Holliday/Braun/Hamilton/Kemp

My lineup would be
1. SS - Tulo
2. 3B - Miggy
3. 2B - Cano
4. 1B - Votto
5. LF - Braun
6. RF - Bautista
7. CF - Hamilton
8. C - Molina

I don't feel like doing pitchers.

And even still, that's 16 guys, and would be too much. Probably cut out an outfielder and carry Zobrist as the 5th outfielder and platoon infielder. Probably could cut out Kinsler as well and maybe Longoria.

Ideally, in an ideal world. I would carry a long term relief pitching set up with a rotation of 3 guys per 3 days (9 pitchers) with a 10th pitcher being the extra arm in all situations. And then you can carry 15 position players.

I don't want to stroke the egos of Mets fans, but having Dickey in there somewhere, say have him come in right after Strasburg...it would be unfair.

Would you get more production out of this configuration than mine?

5. Braun

Miggy marginally provides more home runs than Votto, and strikes out less.

Votto is a slightly better hitter than Miggy, so I like him for the 4 spot....but not by much. It's basically a wash.

I got ya. I realize that, in all reality, they're essentially equals. The only difference for me was Miggy's marginally better power #'s.

That is, Miggy hit home runs slightly more frequently in the relevant sample (20.1 vs. 21.2) and, when 3B are adjusted for (converted to 2B), Miggy's ISO is also slightly higher.

I'd rather use the triples and higher OBP in the two-hole ahead of the 2nd best hitter in the game, who provides me a little more pop.

But, the effect is so marginal as to come out to 2 triples a year, and 2 home runs a year, which probably is a total difference of barely 3 runs a year without other variables factored in. It probably makes no difference one way or another.
