Not shocking. I'm 99'% positive he announced this during or at the beginning of the season. I recall all the commentators talking about during national televised games.

Its quite alright. we have Pritchard taking over GM duties. Bird built this team up, now Pritchard needs to use that aggressive attitude in pursuing some more talent to put us in serious contention for a title.

Huh?

He has always stated that he would wait and have a conversation with Simon after the season then decide.

Most people speculate that Bird wanted more money to work with in building a contender and it looks like Simon doesn't want to spend over the cap.

Those were rumors started by the media, which he denied.

The most recent theory is that Bird is retiring because his chronic back and shoulder issues have gotten worse. Just a month ago he was talking about getting a 3yr extension.
