We are about a week away from the biggest free agent in the NBA officially beginning the process to decide his future. This exhaustive ESPN report reveals what we all pretty much knew. The Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks are the only two teams in the mix. More importantly, the free agent point guard has already started shopping for houses in the Dallas area.

Sources say Williams, in any case, already has instructed his representatives to advise any team that calls starting at 12:01 a.m. July 1 that he intends to either re-sign with the Nets or return to his hometown with the Mavericks after a glittering high school career in the Dallas area. .... While Williams is already settled in the New York area and known to have enjoyed his time living there, sources say he already has done some preliminary househunting in Dallas this month in the event that he chooses to return to the Western Conference.

end of the line for the nets?

I still don't get why he'd choose Dallas as of this moment. I'm assuming he's going to get a max, and with Dirk making 21 mill next year, the two of them alone take up a huge chunk of the cap. They'll amnesty Haywood, but Marion is still owed 8.6 this year and 9.3 next year. So those 3 players alone will make up close to 50 mill.

So what I'm saying is, why doesn't he just stay in Brooklyn? If the Nets can go out and sign Howard next summer, why not just stay put? No offense to the Mavs, they're a great organization, but even with Deron I don't think they drastically move up the NBA food chain.

He should just opt in for this year, then maybe join Dallas next year or stay in BK. This way he and Howard can maybe work something out at least (maybe take a paycut) to play in Dallas.

but i thought he loved soho and his brother was playing in jersey and wanted to be close to him.

this doesn't mean anything, we already know that he's down to two choices. just in case he chooses in dallas, he'll have a understanding of where he wants to live. hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

If I have 2 destinations in mind, wouldn't it be prudent to look for a home in both of those areas? I don't know if he already has a place in New York or not; but buying a house isn't a matter of driving through a neighborhood one day, walking up to the door, ringing a doorbell and handing the owner a bag of cash to clear out.

Nets = Complete Failure. If he leaves, seriously, is that Nets team the worst roster of all-time?

Lopez
Humphries
Morrow
Brooks
Farmar

Compared to

Biyombo
Maggette
Henderson
Kemba
Augustine

Its pretty close imo. And if Lopez gets injured again then they would undoubtedly would be the worst.

Difference being the Bobcats have the #2 pick this year and Biyombo and Kemba. The Nets traded the 6th pick for Gerald Wallace (and he might not even be back). I feel bad for Nets fans. That team is pathetic and could be historically bad.

Calling the Nets roster the worst of all time wow, even if he left Nets would have 40 million in cap space...so I doubt it would be the worst of all time.

So stern controls free agency now?

And if the nba was rigged wouldn't the knicks have won a ring in the past, 30 years?
