Actually... the reports are that he took so many pain meds that his intestines are bleeding. At least he was trying to tough it out.

Clay Buchholz has intestinal bleeding apparently caused by using anti-inflammatory drugs. That news came from Channel 7's Joe Amorosino.

Buchholz is going to be OK, Ben Cherington said. But this incident sounds like something the Red Sox need to be looking into. Are those anti-inflammatory drugs being administered properly?

Buchholz was still in the hospital as of this morning.Boston Globe

Is this whole scenario just unfreakingbelieveable? We'll be dipping into AA for pitchers if this keeps happening. The baseball gods are against us this season.

I'm curious if Buchholz's apparent overuse of pain meds is related to last year's back injury. If so, couldn this be a constant problem for years to come? It certainly makes me very concerned about Clay's long term viability as a pitcher for the Sox.

I've been picking on Buchholz for his build and his toughness. He seems to be getting tougher, but he's still too thin. Now this.... sigh
