View Full Version : 5th Annual PSD Player Rankings #1 PG In The NBA? (Volume: V)

Mile High Champ
06-21-2012, 11:57 PM
Hey guys, Some of you may remember that for the last four years I have conducted a poll at the end of the season that had PSD users vote for the top 10 players at each position. The season is now over and the Heat have been crowned NBA champs which means its time to kick off the off-season player rankings.

A lot has changed since last season. Lebron was labelled by some as Choke Artist in the clutch and now this year had one of the greatest finals performances in recent memory. Let start the discussion since lots has changed since the start of last season. Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER. I will leave the poll open for one day and than we can carry on to the next best player at that position. I will add more players after each round. I have also included the results of those last 4 years so everyone can see how much things have changed...Enjoy.

REMEMBER this is based on who is the best player, not the player who has the potential to be the best

It's gotta be CP3. Rose might have given him a run for his money if he had stayed healthy and made a playoff run, but even then, I'd probably give the edge to Paul. Paul is just too good at too many facets of the game. The vote for No. 2 should be quite interesting, though...

Injuries will likely come into play here. This is based on this past season. Rose will likely end up in the top 5 again but I doubt he finishes in the top after being out for most of the year.

Paul had a less than average post-season by his standards, but he gets a break because he was clearly playing through injury.

MHC, I gotta say, I think Tony Parker should have been an option based off his year with San Antonio. He finished 5th in regular season MVP voting, but isn't a top six option for best PG? you run the show, but you gotta throw him in there for #2 voting.

glad to have these back.

he has a fine argument. he finished 5th in MVP voting, higher than any other option. His team also got farther or as far in the post-season than any other option besides westbrook.

#2 will be interesting. Since people place a lot of stock in postseason success, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of people vote Westbrook in that spot over Parker. Top that with the fact that Westbrook's team ousted Parker's, I could see Westy getting plenty of love on the next poll.

Deron, CP3, Rondo, Rose and Westbrook all really are a dead heat in reality. Everyone is an elite all-around PG, and its pretty easy to legitimately argue one over the other. I still have Deron as the #1 guy. He's just stuck on an awful team. The NBA has so much talent right now at the PG spot between them and the second tier PGs like Parker, Nash, Irving, Kidd followed by the third tier guys like Billups, Lowry, Teague, Lin, Barea, Chalmers, Conley and Nelson.

obviously, MHC is going to do what he's going to do with the overall rankings.

But the Westbrook question is why I think his method of determining overall ranking is flawed. Do I think Westbrook is a better overall point guard than Rajon Rondo? No, for many reasons, main one being, he's not a true PG. BUT, do I think that Westbrook is the better overall player than Rondo? Yes, he just doesn't serve the role of PG as fittingly.

I know it's hard for a lot of people to get that, but it makes perfect sense. This vote will be difficult for me. I think Rondo is the better PG, but I think Westbrook is the better player. I'd like to vote Rondo ahead of Westbrook here in the PG rankings, but I'd take Westbrook in the overall player rankings.

That's how I'll be voting. Westbrook is probably the second or third best player on this list, but in my opinion he's the 5th, 6th, or even 7th best point guard. Paul, Williams, Nash, and Rondo are all clearly better point guards. I would also rather have Parker or Rose running my offense. But that doesn't mean they're all better players than Westbrook.

Just vote for Westbrook, the only position that he can really play is point guard cause Sgs like Kobe, Joe Johnson, Manu, etc would make him a serious defensive liability. Westbrook brings more value, at his position than Rondo could ever dream to. Personally if it was close like how Paul and Rose were last year; then because Paul plays a more "traditional" game then I could see you going with him over Rose. As a Laker fan you'd think you'd be against conventional point guards. Btw I'm not attacking you just stating my 2cents on that topic. :)

What's up with all these labels? Whether Westbrook is a true or a false PG is the the question. The question is who played the best at the Point Guard position this season (the position Russell Westbrook played virtually every minute at this season). He guarded the opposing PGs and was guarded by them. They are his peers.

The question is simple. Who was better than whom at the position they played primarily this past season.

Is Dirk a "True PF" or is KD a "True SF" because people can say otherwise. Are we going to say that in his earlier days Dirk shouldn't be argued over Elton Brand because he didn't play like a Power Forward?

IMO once a player played a certain position for the majority of the season he should be classed with the players that he matched up against for that season.

This is not a debate about he is more natural or pure for their position but rather who is the better/best player at the position.

Swashcuff

You have never done this before but every 2 days or so MHC will open a new poll removing the player who won the last. He does this to get the top 10 at each position and then at the end of it all he uses that to find the top 10 players in the NBA.
