View Full Version : Braun vs. Votto - Is there a case for Braun?

I see most people favor Votto this year (even some by a landslide) but Braun is on pace for 47 homers, basically 30 steals on a good percentage, great slugging percentage of .630 and 179 wRC+....I'd take a guess and say that type of season is truly a legendary one that hasn't been accomplishment more than 5 times in the last 20 years.

Votto is amazing too, having a legendary season himself, I just think Braun deserves more MVP talk with the way he's playing instead of it being Votto in a landslide thus far.

Positionally adjusted, then sure.

But Votto > Braun

If the season ended today Votto would win the NL MVP. Braun is having a very good season but there is no reason to pick him over Votto at this point so it's Votto in a landslide right now.

No not really. It's Votto in a landslide right now and especially what with Braun did in the offseason. I think the writers will shy away from him.

its the same debate as last year with kemp and braun, both are having great years but look at who has the better team record reds>brewers

Joey Votto is actually better this year though.

People go to team record when they want to find an excuse to give the edge to the second best because of a bias. Votto has been far better than Braun, and last year Kemp was better than Braun.

Team record doesn't matter, get them to switch uniforms and see if your opinion changes about them. If it does, it says more about you than it does about them.

Votto- .367 BA, 13 HR, 45 RBI, 4 SB, .486 OBP, .658 SLG
Braun- .321 BA, 20 HR, 51 RBI, 12 SB, .400 OBP, .627 SLG

So yeah it is closer than people think.

Hopefully Braun's performance this year so far will quiet the people who will scream "cheater"

How? A .87 difference in OBP and .100+ difference in OPS does not make it close.

Don't give me the "but Braun has more Hrs and RBI brah'" argument please.

At this moment Votto is the MVP of the NL and Braun would have no chance winning if voting took place today. Braun is a nice 2nd but I think many already knew that.

He may surpass Votto by the end of the season but not right now.

I like Wright and McClutchen in this argument too....

But its Votto all day here. He is on a mission to win NL MVP.

uh heeelllllooo, Votto has only pulled the ball foul once. ONCE.

But uh, Votto is better imo, but either one would come to my team and change our world offensively.

I just dont think thats that close, especially when one is better than the other defensively, even with position value.

It isn't close. Both are having great years, but that doesn't make them equal or even close to equal. Votto's season thus far has been much better.

Votto is better this year.

But Braun is having an incredible year that should not go unnoticed. This was supposed to be an important year after what happened in the offseason, but he's stepped up to the plate (no pun intended).

They're not that far off but if I was voting it would be Votto for now. If Braun passes Votto in a few key categories that he's trailing, Votto will still win it because he's on the better team. Am I gonna cry about that? Nope. You can't go wrong either way, just like last year.

Votto - .471 wOBA, 201 wRC+
Braun - .434 wOBA, 179 wRC+

Votto is on another planet. Braun is still elite, but Votto is on another planet, thus far. They are not close, Votto is killing Braun.

As the season wears on and Votto's .430 babip comes down it will be closer, but right now, there is no question which player is clearly better.
