View Full Version : Should Thunder amnesty Kendrick Perkins?

They could just start Nick Collison and would be saving a bunch of cap room to possibly resign Harden or Ibaka or possibly both

I don't think they can.

Kendrick Perkins is the most overrated player in the NBA.

Trade him for the 7th pick in the draft.

He's also starting problems with the coach and team chemistry

No. Centers are almost extinct.

He's not the prototypical center. He's actually vastly undersized. The only thing that keeps him relevant really is his bulkiness and his ability to get away with moving screens like KG. Other than that, the guy is foul prone, injury prone, fake tough guy, and a black hole on offense.

Where do you rank him amongst all centers in the league that play today?

Dwight, Bynum, Lopez, Bogut, Hibbert, Chandler, Bargs, Al Jeff, Noah and probably even the young Nikolas Pekovic of the T'Wolves are all ahead of him off the top of my head.

Yes, i said before the playoffs if they lose Kendrick will be a big reason why. He's a product of playing next to great defender in KG and a young up and coming star on defense Ibaka . He's got Kwame stone hands on offense can't catch a pass nor have any kind of post move also is a weak rebounder.

Hell, I'd even go as far as saying that if that guy in your avatar was healthy, he would be more impactful to OKC at the Center position than Perkins.

Funny how times changes perception. I remember clowns saying Perkins was shutting Dwight down single handedly vs Boston. "oh he's such a great defender" and when I'd try to explain to the less basketball literates that Kendrick got plenty help from weak side KG and Pierce and Rondo guarding passing lanes to Dwight all you PSD lames laughed at me an our forum. Now you agree in Unisense to amnesty him lmao

Dwight
Noah
Bynum
Chandler
KG
Gasol
Duncan
Hibbert
Varejao
Gortat
Pekovic
Horford
Cousins

At least are better than him.

Add Munroe, Andrea Bargnani, Bogut, DeAndre Jordan, Al Jefferson, and a healthy Okafor to that list.

Perkins sucks man

Perkins is a good, tough defender.

He doesn't match up well with anyone the Heat have been using as a Center.

No Cousins? Gortat? Horford?

**** even guys that just play C sometimes are better at the position than him, Duncan, KG, even Pau. I would literally take upwards of 30 guys to play C instead of Perkins. Hes just not as special as he looked for a small stretch in Boston.

Trade him for the 7th pick in the draft.

Might as well try and trade him to the Magic for Howard if you think he's worth that much.

LJEATON26
06-21-2012, 12:36 PM
Thunder will keep Perkins. With Howard most likely coming to the West and Bynum already here. Just because he doesn't match up well with Miami doesn't mean hes a useless player. He is still one of the few people that can defend all of the top centers in the league.

daboywonder2002
06-21-2012, 12:42 PM
helll no. in the west, you still gotta go against bynum/gasol ,duncan, aldridge, etc. perkins still is able to defend top centers and bigs one on one. this miami series doesnt suit him because there's no one for him to guard.

Carey
06-21-2012, 01:21 PM
Eventually they may, He's useful for 20 mins or so a game, maybe more in the right matchup. We dont beat the Lakers without him, problem is their just isnt enough traditional power Centers for Perk to be fully useful.

The Thunder do have a 7'1'' center Tibor Pleiss coming over from Germany next season, i could see a scenerio where he's groomed this year and him and Cole Aldrich take over the Center position the following season.

YankeesR#2
06-21-2012, 02:57 PM
They won't because even if they wanted to get rid of him he still has trade value.

StarvingKnick22

Perkins is one of the reasons they are so good defensively. he is like the mentor of Ibaka, so no

D-Leethal
06-21-2012, 03:26 PM
The only thing Perk can do is guard 1 on 1 in the post. His help D sucks and his pick and roll D is atrocious. Hes a poor fit for such a quick athletic lineup. They also need a big man with some sort of offensive game even if its just running pick and rolls. Its scary to think Tyson Chandler was halfway there because hes the perfect fit for the 5 spot on that team.

Bosh has been dominating everyone in the paint with boards, putbacks, and straight up inside bullyball. I can't believe I just typed that.

Collison is the only one who has shown some grit down low.

D-Leethal
06-21-2012, 03:29 PM
There are only a few teams in this league Perkins helps you against. Miami is NOT one of them, and he was too slow against SAS and their pick and roll game. There aren't enough big time scoring Centers in the league to warrant paying a guy like 10m a year whos only real quality is guarding big time scoring Centers 1 on 1.

Perk has fallen off ALOT. I really think playing under Doc and along KG made him look better than he is or the knee injury. Whatever it is, he looks slower and weaker than ever before.

yeah, so do people still think danny ainge was crazy for trading perkins now? he isnt exactly what he used to be.

perk is nice to have when you play the likes of bynum and howard. but let's be serious, how many other big, dominating centers are out there? he just doesnt matchup well with the more mobile/agile type centers.

Haven't watched much of Perkins till this series and I am not impressed at all. He is absolutely terrible on defense. I think worse than Boozer. You see how many times the pick n roll with bosh is just absolutely wide open? He is too slow to get back to his guy. He doesn't rotate to help, he doesn't box out. He's just very bad. And he doesn't have a great post up game either from what I've seen.

drobe86
06-21-2012, 06:23 PM
Yes they need to get rid of Perkins. He's been nothing short of terrible this series. He gets consistently guarded by a 6'7 Shane Battier. I'd cut him as soon as the playoffs are over.

I never reallly excepted Perkins as an OKC Thunder. He is a Celtic....I think they should amnesty him...Perk is probably the only player to persuade KG to come back.

No way KG comes back just to play with that bum. Perkins was solid with Boston, but he's terrible with OKC. They should cut their losses and Perk can maybe go play as the 12th man on somebody's bench. He can't catch, shoot, pass, defend, ANYTHING. Perkins is at his best fouling, and acting like he's going to fight people. He can't even score on Shane Battier on the block, and that dudes half his size.

I think Perkins should see very little time in this series.

But without Perkins, OKC does not have the homecourt advantage in this Finals, and might not have beaten the Spurs.

Like many other horrible players, Perkins only plays well at home. It is amazing to me really how someone goes to being such a liability when at home they are atleast respectable. He cant catch the ball, he cant finish layups, he is slow, he doesnt even jump to challenge Lebron James layups...I mean he is useless it is pretty amazing to watch

Yes please! Sure hes good marking someone with actual size like Bynum. But other than that hes just overpaid. If we do amnesty him how much cash would we have to go after a big? (I know we need to keep some for resigning Ilbaka and Harden).
