View Full Version : Report: Hawks shopping Josh Smith to move up in NBA Draft

The Hawks are said to be one team placing calls to improve their draft position. They currently own the No. 23 pick. One GM said the Hawks floated the names of both Josh Smith and Marvin Williams as potential trade chips.

One issue facing the Hawks, of course, is the status of GM Rick Sund. His contract expires at the end of the month, and his future with the team is unclear, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Interesting.

Horford & Smith have never fit together and each hold the other back.

I wouldn't be shocked or surprised if Atlanta moved up in a deal with Portland, Sacramento, or Golden State to acquire C Andre Drummond. It gives them a potential future Franchise player who allows Al Horford to move back to his natural position at PF where he'll thrive.

The Nets

Oh you mean now :D Hopefully not the Kings. I'd love someone with the defensive ability of Smith, but not for one year at the cost of the 5th pick...

i'd give them the 6th for Josh Smith and there pick 23 so we could grab Marshall at 11 and fab Melo with 23

Fab
Aldridge
J-Smoove
Batum
Marshall
6th Matthews

does that look better then having drummond

LMAO! You think a GM would trade Josh Smith for the #13 pick in the draft? I thought Knicks fans were hopelessly optimistic...

It's a 1 yr rental of Josh Smith unless you can convince him to extend. They'd be lucky to get the #13 pick.

So the Blazers trade Mathews and Babbit for Redick? Oh, and they get a shiny 2nd rounder?!

No thanks...

Horford is by far their best player. Josh Smith's talented, but a loser.

gasol for smith

please lord

Smith's game would fit much better with the emergence of Bynum as #2 option. Bynum kicked Gasol out of the post where he was comfortable and made him way less comfortable this season. Gasol is still great and better than he played this year, both teams stand to benefit IMO.

#2 for Smoove+#23

that would be a bad move by Cha. He would just be a rental, honestly he'll need to be traded somewhere that he agrees to an extension first. No one in their right mind will give up such value for anything that isn't a sure deal. I don't see him agreeing to extend with Bobcats. Charlotte needs to build through the draft, acquire some talent, and become a more desireable place to entice people to sign there long term before doing something like this.

If Charlotte pays him, I don't see why he wouldn't agree to an extension. The Bobcats have a lot of money coming off of the books. They need to build through the draft, but this is the right draft to trade the #2 pick for some value. This is a deep draft, but a draft with only one real premium talent.

I dont want the Kings going after this dude.

06-20-2012, 12:42 PM
well if they get him to agree to an extension first, go right ahead. but if not that would be a hell of a risk. I would assume he would rather test the FA waters than commit so far ahead of time to Charlotte (no offense to Charlotte, just reality the way NBA players are today).

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith is finally traded. He's been talking for years to be traded but to a contender. None of those teams picking high in the drafts are contenders next year.

I always thought that Horford should be starting at power forward and the Hawks could bring Smith off the bench so Horford could have some time at his natural position. If Smith had any kind of consistent outside jumper, I would even think about playing him at the 3.

Why do you even bother posting this? No. Absolutely not. You came into the Hawks forum a few weeks to offer trash for Smith.

He's a good player so everybody offering trash can keep it. I'd take Gasol for Smith and I think it benefits both teams. Or a top 5 pick.

I'd do Gortat and the 13th pick for Smith and the 23rd.

You would feel comfortable trading Gortat? If I was a Hawks fan I'll do it. They'll finally be able to slide Horford to the 4.

I'd do Gortat and the 13th pick for Smith and the 23rd.

If I were Atlanta I'd jump all over that deal. Gortat would be a great fit with Horford and the 13 can address a wing position.
