Neither team has played their best basketball

I agree. OKC was DAMN close in the first game. The only reason it wasn't their best basketball was because of the slow first quarter. But after that, they were flawless.

I don't think Miami has played their best...mainly because I don't think Wade has played his best...and the defense has been inconsistent.

It will be interesting to see the matchup of the OKC offense vs the Miami defense in this game.

If the thunder come out and play at a high level for 4 quarters I don't think Miami can beat them. Game 2 was about as good as I've seen the heat play and they almost lost despite having a big lead most of the game. Game 1 they had a lead as well and still lost. So, if the thunder can just put it together for a full game they should have this next one. But, it all comes down to the matchup of the Miami defense vs OKC offense.

he really has. More than his scoring he creates a mismatch that prevents OKC from playing 2 bigs on the floor.

For the life of me I don't know why the Thunder won't roll out West, Harden, Thabo, Durant, Ibaka...

I think that would be their best chance against Miami's smaller lineup...

i wanna say heat because its there home game and theyll be pumped but after that loss in okc i think okc is gonna actually play a good first half.. then it will be up to who closes...

the heat need to take care of okc now when there in mode of transitioning to there faults but then again i dont see heat powering the okc thunder anytime soon...ultimatley this series will come down to consistency

The team that lost homecourt advantage after Game 2 of the Finals has gone on to win game 3 to steal back home court the last 2 yrs (Lakers 2010 and Heat 2011), but I don't think it happens a 3rd straight time with 2012 Okc.

I am excited for this game. I would like to see Durant actually D'd up in the 4th and not going crazy shooting and hitting everything. This series could be 2-0 if lockdown D is played on him in crunch time. I know it is hard to do but you can't give him uncontested 3's and easy driving lanes.

Shane Battier on Heat defense against Durant and Westbrook. "We just haven't done a very good job on Durant. And Westbrook, despite his criticism, he's scoring over 20 and giving us all sort of problems. So there's a lot of room for improvement on the defensive end, and that's what we have to do, just keep building.''

Well, judging by the last sentence I'll assume you're being super objective here! ;)

You're wrong though. They were better in Game 1 of the Knicks series, Games 5 and 6 of the Pacers series, and Games 1, 6 and 7 of the Celtics series. I mean, Miami was really only better than OKC for one quarter on Thursday :shrug:

Obviously Miami is a good team they are in the ECF but observing the two teams Miami was up by 17 and controlled the game throughout....I still don't know how OKC got back into it....Lebron 11-11 from the line......halftime crew said there was no way the Thunder was coming back. I thought they should have got the ball to Durant at the top of the key for the 3 to get the win.....he would have knocked that one down.

Really I think OKC is capable of winning 3 straight and closing this series out....like they did the Spurs.

Durant is the best player in the NBA...and I'll take Westbrook over Wade at this point. Harden should be starting, and probably will in the next one or two games. I cant see Bosh outworking OKC's front court like that in any of the rest of these games. To me, I say it ends in 6 and Lebron will still be one of the 6 players ever to win an MVP and not have a title.

I just don't understand all of the OKC love. They have been abysmal so far this series while playing at home. I don't think it is a mental thing, I think Miami has made adjustments to take them out of their comfort zones. Ibaka having to guard Battier is kill them. Either he commits to Battier on the outside and gives open driving lanes or he stays home Wade/LeBron drive and kick it out to him for an open shot.

I think LeBron realized he needs to stop shooting so many jumpers and needs to bang down low in the paint. He is too big and too strong for OKC to guard him down there. Players are asking to get in foul trouble if they do.

OKC has been saved the last 2 4th quarters and I don't know if the HEAT will allow them to keep coming back. They are going to deny Durant the ball or force him to take contested shots. His % will fall as will the amount of points.

I think OKC is outmatched and has been outcoached in the only area of the game Spo actually knows. And that is defense. The slow starts aren't a coincidence, if it happened once, then sure. But two games in a row tells me it is something the HEAT are doing and not something OKC isn't.

Both teams have the capability to come back when they are down 17. OKC because of their offense and Miami because of their defense. Either team is capable of winning 3 straight, it just won't be easy.

Collison would be a good play. Makes them vulnerable defensively though.

Bosh --> Collison
Battier--> Ibaka
James--> KD
Wade-->Westbrook
Chalmers-->Sef

And putting Harden in for Sef, makes them even more vulnerable. Chalmers would drive on him all day. If you notice Chalmers gets to the bucket easier with Harden in.

I just don't know how they can adjust and not lose defensive footing that has already been slipping.

Or maybe because many of us believed that OKC/Spurs were the favorites to win it all?

Like or dislike Miami, they have one of the best big 3's in the league... they do however lack depth. You can argue all you want about a shortened rotation, but depth matters if any of the "big 3" is having an off game. And in Miami's case, if it's Lebron or Wade with an off game, the players to pick up the slack for Miami aren't as good as the players for OKC in my view.

And in the minds of many fans, Lebron is still viewed as a choker. Not every fan believes Miami is a 4th quarter choker, however, the fact is alot of fans believe Lebron is a late 4th quarter choker in big games.

I still believe OKC in 6, been saying it from before the series, and was saying that OKC/SAS was the real championship during the OKC/SAS series. Heck, if OKC lost tonight I'd still say OKC in 6.

OKC is just scary good and ridiculously explosive. OKC has the abilitity to dig down DEEP and pull out wins that make you go "WTF did THAT come from?" Never forget that OKC went down 0-2 to SAS and STILL won the series.

OKC has gone down double digits in the first half in many, MANY games in the playoffs... to Dallas, the Lakers and SAS and still pulled out alot of wins. Don't think for a second it's unique to Miami. I can't remember the last time I've seen a team steal victory from the jaws of defeat so many times during the playoffs.

Never count OKC out. Never give them a sliver of light. And Never, Ever think that the game is "under control" against OKC. They're one of those rare teams that being 20 points down in the playoffs is still a close game for them.

And that's one of the main reasons I believe that OKC is going to take this series in 6. I just don't believe that Miami as a Team is as hungry, as focussed, or consistent enough to knock out a team like OKC.

In the words of Spo...

"OKC is relentless. They never stop. They never stop attacking."

And that will be Miami's undoing.

If the Heat had been consistent during the previous playoff games, I'd feel differently. However, they've been anything but focussed, hungry or consistent in terms of performance when you look at the Indiana/Boston series.

They weren't focussed for 48 mins in game 1, it's debatable how focussed they were when they let OKC back into the game from an 18 point lead in game 2. It was a TWO POINT GAME prior to the last Durant play. That's not stepping on someone's throat and keeping your foot on the gas by any definition.

The Heat is going to have to show ALOT more before I even start to believe they're as hungry or focussed on winning as OKC.

Yeah. I don't get this either. They were pretty solid favorites coming into this series. Vegas liked them a lot. America liked them a lot (almost 70% of ESPN voters said OKC would win). I mean, the Thunder were 5.5 point favorites in both their home games...and the Heat are now only 4 point favorites in their home game :shrug:

I think Battier is the X factor. If the normal 5 ppg Battier comes to play the Thunder can steal the game. If the 17 ppg Battier comes to play then it'll be hard unless Wade or Bosh struggles.

I dont think it has to be Battier. Anyone outside of the big 3 scoring in double digits is the x factor for our team. But if all of the big 3 play well and score 80 or so points, I think it should be a win regardless.

This will be a great game though, can't wait :nod:

i forget but are the thunder considered a great defensive team? pacers or thunder which one would be considered the better defensive team?

based on stats, OKC is ranked 9th in defensive efficiency, IND is #10(basically tied with OKC) NY was 5th and boston was 2nd. Miami is 4th

dallas was 8th, lakers were 13th and spurs were 11th

So miami is the best defensive team OKC has faced in the post season while OKC is pretty much the worst defensive team miami has faced(but still pretty good and in the top 1/3rd)

offensive efficiency
miami-6th
OKC-2

NY-19th
IND-8th
BOS-24th

Dallas-20th
Lakers-10th
Spurs-1st

just some stats

Pacers for sure, that's their identity.

Thunder identity is fast pace, creating havoc and turnovers, athleticism, speed and youth, but the Pacers have a more fundamental approach to defense like physicality, moving your feet, contesting almost every shot, boxing out to get rebounds, limit dribble drives and paint opportunity, close out on shooters.

Thunder are just more offensively talented and outscore you and try to buckle up on defense the last 3-4 minutes of the game when it's close or the 4th qtr when trying to come back from a double digit deficit. But their defense is predicated on how well they flop and throw their arms up at every nudge contact to get to the free throw line in the 4th qtr 20 times a game.

Lebron will show the world again why he is the best player in the world tonight.

SMH at those people who were saying Durant is the next MJ,and can be better than Kobe.Let the guy play out the next 3yrs then we can see if he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as MJ/Kobe.

All these analysts blaming Westbrook for last game are just trying to start up a conversation. The whole thing is nonsense and he played a decent game. Yes, he struggled with his shot early in the game and the reason why Durant wasn't getting the ball the first half is because he was out quite a while because of foul trouble, and he wasn't getting himself open. You can't give him the ball every single offensive possession and expect him to score 1 on 1.

You do know 50-15-15 through the first 2 games is a random stat that ESPN decided to pull out of their ***** to have a segment to talk about in their pre-game and just catapult these young guns like Westbrook?

And of those 4 guys, only Hal Greer won his first 2 games. Jordan and Westbrook split their first 2 finals games and Shaq lost both of them. So it's pretty irrelevant when you don't win both. It's just empty ESPN foolish stats.
