Lakers beat Celtics for the first time.

Any need for explanation?

2000.

I started watching in 92' during the loss to Blazers in the playoffs, after 8 years for drama, frustration and disappointment in the organization finally saw my Lakers accomplish the ultimate goal and in a home game.

1994

Hate the Knicks, Hate Pat Riley, and particularly hated the wrestling team the Knicks assembled that year.

It was like a victory of good over evil.

Will always think of John Starks fondly.

Also, the Fo-Fi-Fo series

'05 Finals Spurs vs. Pistons. 2 great teams that played at the top of their games. Both teams played awesome defense, boasted selfless players, and amazing coaches.

Horry's clutch play in game 5. It went to a freaking game 7 - Not many finals in recent memory did that! This was definitely my favorite finals that I watched, and probably one of the most underrated ever... though it had some awful television ratings.

1997. Bulls-Jazz

Favorite game... Easily game 1 of the 2001 Finals. Sixers-Lakers. Close number two, is Game 4, 1993 Finals, Bulls-Suns

Last season's run. Not only did my favourite player finally win a ring, but he did it with such an improbable run with basically a bunch of outcasts. Sweep the Lakers? I thought they would lose that series. Smack that OKC team, game 4 comeback ---> WOW I was pissing myself when Dirk went crazy in the last 6 minutes. Then Game 2 of the Miami series, I almost **** myself when Dirk made that 3 when Chandler pinned Lebron to get him open, and I cried when he finally won. This also proves that EVERY championship team needs a good or excellent center to win in this league, no matter how good everyone else is. Dirk having a good center for the first time in his career = championship. No Chandler and this season's Mavs were nothing.

1993 finals Bulls vs. Suns

I have been a Bulls fan since I was 5 (I am 35 now), but I was born and raised in Phoenix. It was me against everyone I knew.

Plus, there was the triple overtime game. Michael putting up huge numbers.

Game 4: Michael Jordan going for the double nickel, torching Dan Majerle to win the game, despite Sir Charles going for a triple double. (32, 12, 10)

Michael averaged a Finals record 41.0 ppg.

And of course, the John Paxon shot, and subsequent Horace Grant block on KJ to win game six and complete the first 3-peat.

Epic series between my two favorite teams. Awesome!

Plus I got to gloat to all my friends. So that put the icing on the cake.

I think the 1988 finals was probably one of the best finals ever. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, because my team lost, but it was a great, seven-game series. I liked the 1989 one more, but from a fan stand point it wasn't much of a series, just a four game sweep.

The one I would say I enjoyed the most would be either the 2004 Pistons/LA series, but again, for a fan of the game it was essentially a 5-game sweep (the OT game should have went to Detroit), or 2005 finals. I've always loved Tim Duncan and the Spurs team-first approach and the Pistons played with the same mentality, so it was a great series for any fan of the game who likes to watch great defence and smooth execution, and being a 7 game series, it doesn't get much better than that. Last second shots from the like of Horry makes it a classic.

But some don't like that team-first approach, they like watching the stars of the game explode, and for that, I'd either go back again to the 1988 finals, or more recently the 2010 finals which saw a classic re-match between the two winningest franchises that stretched out to 7 games. Kobe was playing his best basketball, and while the 2008 finals were great to watch, the Lakers played without Bynum, so that was one great talent taken out of the series. While it is true that Perkins was injured in 2010, and that the Celtics may have very easily won the series had Perkins been healthy, he also isn't as talented as Bynum is, so for a fan of the game, there wasn't much missing from the series with Perkins out.

I am biased to a certain era because 1988 was the first season I followed the game and I'm from the Detroit area, so I like Detroit a lot, but I believe that the rosters in the 2005 finals, regardless of which jerseys the players were wearing, would have been entertaining for anybody who loves the game. Best part of that series is that the officials didn't seem to care who won one way or the other, so the calls seemed to go right down the middle and nobody had a distinct advantage (which totally ruined the Boston Miami series we just saw... that game 2 should have gone to Boston and the series should have been over in five games!).

Anywho....

wade going insane in 2006 and single handily destroying dallas

Single handily? I think the officials gave him a big hand in the series considering how many times they put him on the line, and Shaq's impact on that series was HUGE and undervalued by many.

18 free throws in game 3.
25 free throws in game 5.
21 free throws in game 6.

If you are a Heat fan, I can see how that was a fun series to watch. But for a fan of the game that was one of the most painful series to watch ever. The officials just decided after two games that they were going to beat up on the Mavs and hand the series to Miami.

Respectfully disagree. Besides, nothing is EVER done single handily in team sports. EVER!

I would have to say 2010 against Boston, just because it was the toughest. Coming back from 3-2 down, and that epic game 7, and see Artest just beat the crap out of Pierce for 7 games.

So many come to mind, but my favorite is probably 1987 Lakers-Celtics. Magic Johnson and the Baby Skyhook.

They just don't make championship rivalries like that anymore.

Bulls go up 3-0 its over.........but wait here come the Sonics fighting back win 1 ....then 2......and then you think can they do it can the beat MJ and the Bulls well no, but they sure had me going for a minute there in that series. It was great. It was very entertaining Kemp was dynamic and Jordan was Jordan :laugh2:

My first Finals that I remember was MJ's last NBA finals appearance so I havent seen that many. I would say my favorite would be Dallas beating Miami Heat. Im a huge Lebron James fan, but the way Dallas played made that series very enjoyable.

1969. Celts, old, beat down, lowest seed from the East. After losing the streak in '67 nobody could quite believe '68, but they for sure didn't believe in '69.

Celts, walk into the Forum for Game 7 and see balloons in the rafters. It was a great push for the motivation. The Celts the superior team beat the team with the superior talent, and it was right at the chimes of midnight. And it was the 7th time in a row (over 13 years) the Celts beat the Lakers in the Finals

Between all 5 Lakers championships won since I've been alive, I'd have to say there most recent defeat over the Celtics to win there 16th championship was the sweetest. Kobe earning his 5th NBA ring, seeking revenge over the Celtics who had beaten them just 2 years prior in Kobe's first appearance since Shaq had left.
Other than game 7, Kobe had completely out-shined every other player on the floor and was absolutely unstoppable.. much like Durant in tonight's game 1 victory.
Boy was I happy. Never will I forget that series.

I thought Detroit was going to do the impossible in 2005. Win games 6 and 7 on the road. Game 7 was tied going to the 4th quarter.

The ones I have seen that I personally enjoyed were:

1997
1998
2000
2001
2002
2009

But my all time favorite finals I have personally seen has to be the 2010 NBA Finals... Lakers Celtics, 7 games, Lakers win. Nothing sweeter than that.

Even though I'm a Bulls fan, that series was not my favorite. But a lot of the reasons is because in the other finals we always played the guy who won league mvp or finished 2nd in MVP voting. So those made the matchups more special. This was only good because the season the Bulls had. I'd say playing Orlando was much more special than playing Seattle that year.

3 top 5 players in the league was in that series. that was amazing and the games were way closer than the 5 game series suggest, atleast the first couple of games. 76ers just had no answer for shaq.
