The reason this NBA Finals is good for Bball fans and the public.

Was just checking the times the guy who was #1 in MVP voting who faced the guy who finished #2 in MVP voting (NBA Finals)

2012 - Lebron vs Durant
1998 - MJ vs Malone
1997 - Malone vs MJ
1992 - MJ vs Drexler
1991 - MJ vs Magic
1985 - Bird vs Magic
1980 - Kareem vs Dr J
1970 - Reed vs West
1967 - Wilt vs Thurmond
1963 - Russell vs Baylor
1961 - Russell vs Pettit
1957 - Cousy vs Pettit

Good stuff JB thanks for sharing. It's going to be a slugfest between two of the best.

Hopefully, they guard each other majority of the game. Not just the final quarter or final minutes.

i doubt lebron has enough left in the tank to chase KD around for 7 games, and KD could gaurd lebron if he tried. So i doubt we'll see them matched up too much

Good stuff JB thanks for sharing. It's going to be a slugfest between two of the best. This is the first NBA Finals where the two best players of the league, MVP and MVP runner up, and of the same position are facing each other.

Last time we have had the MVP and MVP Runner Up was Jordan vs. Malone in 97 & 98. Last time, we had something similar to this situation was when Hakeem went against Shaq, but David Robinson (MVP that season) was argbuably better and Jordan came back by then.

Yep durant could easily guard Lebron if he tried

Meh. LeBron has more than enough in his tank to guard Durant in a 7-game series but both don't have enough fouls to give. :D

Yep durant could easily guard Lebron of he tried

Luckily for Durant, he doesn't have to guard Lebron while Lebron needs to guard Durant.

Could you check how often they met in the playoffs altogether?

The fact that Malone won the 98 MVP still pisses me off. I'm sure Jordan hasn't let it go either, knowing him.

These are the years where the player that finished 1st in MVP voting met the player that finished 2nd in MVP voting in the playoffs (any round)

1984 - Bird vs King (Round 2)
1981 - Dr J vs Bird (ECF)
1977 - Kareem vs Walton (WCF)
1972 - Kareem vs West (WCF)
1969 - Unseld vs Reed (Division Semifinals)
1962 - Russell vs Wilt (Division Finals)
1960 - Wilt vs Russell (Division Finals)

Hate to ask of more work from you but how would you score the matchup of the stars? Hours often would you say the mvp proved his worth and how often the runner up took it to him/his team.

Well if the guy who was the better player was the MVP and lost with HCA like was the case between Kareem vs Walton I would say that is a huge knock.

Id like to see a list of games where you think this held true. Just curious about your methodology.

I blame Kareem for getting dominated alot, but this one is questionable. I know your not the only one who claims he lost this matchup, I can definitely see the argument even if I disagree with it.
I mean does having the better team mean nothing? Why is always about HCA?

It's too bad that the Thunder are just going to sweep the Heat after all this hype, the finals will be rather anti-climactic ;-) lol

Should be a great battle, two of the top 3 players in the league going toe-to-toe and 6 of the top 25 players going at it... Should be fun.
