Say if you were NBA star type player and you were a Free Agent coming off of a 4 year/$40 million deal & u have these choices... Pretend that you are a point guard

Sign with Miami for vet min
Sign with Lakers for Full MLE
Sign with Bobcats for the Max contract

Which deal would you make?

(sidenotes: you don't have a ring & your 30 years old)

Sign for the max contract. Easy.

Yeah, definitely the max contract.. Your career won't be over after that max deal (most likely), so you could chase rings then... that's way too much money to pass up... even the guys who claim that it's all about the rings (Chris Paul) wouldn't pass that up.

Remove the max from the equation and it's still a dumb question. Miami or LA? But you get paid more in LA and get as much attention from the league as you would playing in Miami. And you're on an instant contender (let's be real, a Lakers rebuilding season consists of being a 5 seed for a year or two before some trades/free agency changes it).

sign for the max and then demand to be traded after a season

Max easily. Now if you said the player was 35+ and had the options of vet min 1 yr, mle 1 yr, or 12ish mill 1 year, I could see a guy like Steve Nash taking the min or mle.

Now if it were Portland, or another team on the cusp on doing some damage if the cards fall right, I might take a 3 year, $30 million deal versus the max for a team that might not be there in a few years. But even then, not sure I could say no to a max deal.

You're asking a bunch of people that likely don't make over 6 figures in one year to choose between $1mil or $240mil (or w/e a max contract is nowadays).

I'll take the max.

It depends... if I know I'm going to be making some money on endorsements, I would be inclined to sign with LA. 20 million is a lot, but winning a championship is a rare experience. Is it worth 20 million dollars? I'd be very happy with 3 million and a ring, but it's hard to leave that othr 17 million on the table.

If I was D-Will, I'd ask the Nets to work out a sign-and-trade with LA. If not... I don't know I'd want to play in Charlotte or with the Nets if there isn't a major move made by either team. To sign up for four years of losing, regardless of how much you get paid, is going to be hard to do.

I guess I'd go to LA for 3 million... but I would try to work a sign-and-trade first.

Just out of curiosity, why is the Miami offer only the vet Min, & not the Min mid lev of $3mil?
