View Full Version : Will Spoelstra be fired if / when Heat lose ECF?

After 2 years of a lot of hype and zero accomplishments how will Spoelstra be allowed back to coach this cast of cry babies? They say that a team takes the personality of their coach onto the floor. Having said that it must mean that Eric Spolstra is mentally weak, has no heart, and no pride. It means he has zero offensive awareness when in a half court set, and pouts when he doesn't get his way. True about Spoelstra or not, this is exactly the charactor of the Miami Heat players. We all saw Spoelstra and Wade get into it on the bench during a time out Vs. the Pacers in Rd 2. They down played the whole scene but we all know there is more to it then they are letting on.

My question is what do you think the chances are that if the Heat loses this ECF series, is Spoelstra gone? I say he is 100% gone. What is your % that he is fired, or do you think he'll stay and why?

Next question: What are the chances that Miami blows this team up with trades, breaking up the big 3 if they fail again in 2012-2013 season?

Spoelstra is gone with anything less than a finals victory. He has the most talented team in recent NBA history and they can't close out games when they need to.

The only way they break up the big three is if LeBron says so. Wade is not worth much now anyways, best bet is to hope he has a bounce back year next year. They'll give it another shot with Pat Riley next year, but if they don't win it by then maybe everyone but LeBron will be gone.

I think that it was too early for him to be placed in a prominent head coaching position. He's not a bad coach but its hard to handle talents the likes of lebron, wade and bosh... They need a coach with more experience to handle the position... I think Spo gets a bit of unfair criticism due to that... He's a good coach but he was thrust into the spotlight way too early.. But i would say that Miami needs a change in their coaching position if they don't win the title.

Cb I strongly agree with this, I think the feeling would be that Pat steps in and coaches, but do you think he might try to bring in Phil Jackson to fill in a coaching spot in Miami? What better way could you spark immediate attention to a team that hasnt lived up to the hype then grab Phil? Bigger question would Phil accept for a shot at coaching 3 of the best players in todays game?

He should be. Get someone in there with some pedigree and credibility-- I'm sure Phil Jackson would come out of retirement for the chance to win "not one, not two..." and absolutely cement his legacy as the best coach in NBA history.

IMO, it's too late for any good coach to want that job - I see it as the players overtaking Spoelstra (and with good reason\duh) and it's been going on for 2 years - This cast is already formulated and trying to step in now to turn things around would be tough and I can't picture any good coach wanting to do it, of course money can make anything happen

It would be nice to see the Heat get it together and dominate the league but I don't see it happening anymore...

If it doesn't happen, I would like to see them break it up either keeping Wade or getting rid of him but definitely getting LeBron away from him. LeBron needs to get to a well constructed team similar but better than the Cavs - pair him up with a big man that isn't afraid of the low post and win some rings the simple way.... It's a shame this dude doesn't have his ring yet.

Spoelstra is a joke and I would never play for that dude, I wouldn't even give him a chance - his coaching career is going to end very soon, even if he wins a ring this year...

CAN PEOPLE STOP ASSUMING THAT THIS SERIES IS OVER. IF THE CELTICS BLOW THIS GAME TONIGHT, THE HEAT ARE INSTANTLY FAVORED. SO, PLEASE STOP JINXING THE CELTICS, YOU *******S.

You know the NBA wants Thunder V. Heat - would be best for ratings. Expect the referees to heavily favor the Heat. The Celtics are going to have to play much better than they played in Game 5, ESPECIALLY with Bosh potentially playing 30 min.

CAN WE PLEASE BAN "WHAT IF" POSTS? I think it's more interesting to discuss after the fact (unless it pertains to Trade/FA Rumors). Why are we talking about "When the Heat lose?" Miami is still -1.5 favorites for Game 6, and you can sure as h*ll assume that they will be favored for Game 7 at Home (They were favored by -8.5 or so for Game 5 at Home). So, regardless of what "it looks like," Vegas still favors the Heat, so let's not count them out until they are out. If they WIN, the Heat will keep the Big 3 in tact and keep Spo, thus making this thread ENTIRELY irrelevant.

NO MORE "WHAT IF" THREADS! IT'S JUST BAD LUCK FOR US TRUE ANTI-HEAT FANS!

This team is broken.

And if I had to pick a player to shoot a last second shot to win my game, it would be no one from the Miami Heat.

If they can convince a few more vets to sign (Nash, Allen, KG, Kaman, Dalembert) there is no way they are breaking up the big 3. That bench is HORRIBLE. I'm not saying that they shouldn't, because Bosh is an awkward fit, but they won't. Too soon, and they can sell it as "if Bosh was healthy and we had more depth...."

I don't know if he gets fired or not. The amount of drama surrounding the core stars of this team requires a coach with an impressive resume of handling such players AND has to command instant respect -- there aren't many available coaches capable of that.

I think Riley will more likely add another coaching specialist to implement/re-tool the offensive scheme and possibly fire some of the support.

It's not a matter of if, but how.

I predict they re-erect the infamous pep rally stage from July 2010, and lower Erik Spoelstra into the bowels of AmericanAirlines Arena to the sound of Eddy Curry fart noises.

I think Spo gets one more year. I think he is not a very good head coach, but the trend has been not to be so trigger happy on firing coaches as of late...

If he loses tonight, he is fired tomorrow, just like Avery Johnson was from the Mavs. But I doubt he will be removed from the team, instead he'll be "relieved of his coaching duties" lmao. He'll probably go back to video coordinator or something.

That's not how the HEAT usually operate. If you're fired, you're fired. Unless, of course, you "choose" to "resign," la Stan Van Gundy. In which case you can feel free to stay on as "an NBA free agent evaluator." (http://www.nba.com/heat/news/stan_van_gundy_resigns_051212.html)

first off, something tells me this series is far from over...

second, if the heat fail to win the finals (barring major injuries) Spoelstra will be fired...

and i wouldn't be surprised if they deal bosh if they can find good players at PG & C...

this heat team is incomplete....they need a penetrating PG (or just play LeBron there which is what I would do right now) and an impact center who makes a strong impact defensively and on the boards

they seem to have enough outside shooters in Chalmers, Battier, & Jones....they need front-court help and a PG

with this said, I am definitely rooting against the Heat

I don't post much..

but YES he deserves to get fired. With that talent you shouldn't be in desperate situations in the last 2 minutes of any game. How do you go from having the last possession and calling a timeout to only set up nothing for wade or lebron? They are just sitting on the baseline waiting for the other to do something! That can't be the gameplan. Spoelstra needs to be replaced!

trade bosh for decent big man and couple of other good bench players, but I doubt any team is willing to take max contract for bosh..

@Cubbies7177 it's a legitimate question to ask even if they win or lose this series or the next or even if they win it; they have underachieved so far and they are undisciplined. He has had public blowouts with players and his moves are questioned by his players in the media. He has gotten a lot of valuable experience during this run but he is still inept at coaching this team on the offensive side of the ball.

I don't think he should

I do think that Riley should be the one taking the blame... he is the idiot that can't get the right pieces around these guys... his signings have been terrible since the big 3 self recruited each other

I would fire Spo if they won the Finals. Miami has gotten here without any real offensive strategy, and without any motivation for the coach.
